I love breakfast. But cabbage soup as the first meal of the day? That really doesn't work. I stand in the kitchen, hungry and wondering what to make. Fruit is allowed, but unfortunately I don't have any at home.

I skip breakfast and just have a coffee and let my stomach growl for a while.

I find it difficult to concentrate at work. I'm not used to starting the day without eating. That's why I give myself a jolt at 10 a.m. and eat my first cabbage soup.

It tastes amazingly good. Still, I couldn't have eaten it at half past six in the morning. During the lunch break, I go to the supermarket and stock up on fruit in large quantities.

Two apples, an orange, a bowl of blueberries and raspberries and a pear end up in my stomach throughout the day. In the evening I have cabbage soup again, of course.

On day 1 I eat 4 cabbage soups in small quantities and lots of fruit.

Day 2 of my cabbage soup diet experience

Today I get to eat vegetables. This time I already got them the night before. I cut peppers, radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes small and drink a green tea with it.

Somehow, a loaf of bread or something bite-sized like cereal escapes me. But I hold out. However, the vegetables don't keep me full for long.

By half past ten, my stomach is growling louder than ever. I have to have cabbage soup. How I would love to eat a piece of bread with it. 🥲

Throughout the day I keep my head above water with vegetables.

In the evening I treat myself to 2 baked potatoes with low-fat quark. And they taste simply heavenly!

Day 3 with cabbage soup for weight loss

Today I am lucky. I get to eat fruits and vegetables. I stock up on all kinds.

This time I'm having a vegetable stir-fry for lunch. Yes, I know, normally I should eat the vegetables raw. But I really just fry them very briefly in the pan. Add a little salt, pepper and lemon juice. It just tastes better that way. And it certainly doesn't add any more calories.

Before the vegetable skillet, I'll pass on the cabbage soup this time. Somehow it does not make me permanently happy. My stomach feels bloated despite caraway seeds and it disgusts me even before the smell of the soup.

In the afternoon, I treat myself to fresh pineapple and raspberries. I may feel a little hungry, but I'm still perfectly happy.

At least 1x a day I should eat the soup. So I decide in the evening to do so.

During my running training, I notice that I lack strength. I'm very hungry and simply have no energy. But I have a bloated belly - a great combination.

Day 4 with the cabbage diet

My tummy growls and gurgles. Somehow it won't calm down. I feel bloated and don't want to eat cabbage soup. 🙈

Luckily I'm having yogurt with bananas today. Now I have a breakfast to my liking. I mix in a few berries and 2 tbsp of oat flakes to make sure I'm at least a little full, Chia* and coconut in the yogurt. Maybe that calms the stomach.

And things are actually getting better.

But when cabbage soup is on the menu again at 11 a.m., I feel quite different. My colleague Kristina takes pity on me and joins me in spooning up the soup.

I get through the day. But I really can't concentrate at work. I'm constantly rambling, in a bad mood, and my stomach is growling.

Day 5 of my experiment Lose weight with cabbage soup

Today we're having fish and tomatoes. But what should I eat in the morning? Cabbage soup? No, thanks. Just thinking about it makes me sick.

I opt for a huge cup of green tea. However, my stomach doesn't find this very amusing. My stomach growls all morning and I feel very weak.

I decide to have lunch at 11 o'clock because I can't take it anymore. A piece of fish and 6 tomatoes. That sounds like a bad joke to me right now. How I would love to order a pizza or eat a huge kebab right now.

And for dessert, a huge bar of chocolate with nuts. My mouth is watering. Instead, we have cabbage soup.

I was constantly ravenous. I would have preferred to swap the cabbage soup for chocolate, pizza and burgers.

After three spoonfuls, I break off. I'm sick and tired of the cabbage soup diet. I can't and don't want to see cabbage anymore.

That cabbage soup diet experiences do not necessarily have to be positive, I realize now for the first time.

The temptation was a little too great. I treat myself to chocolates. It saves the day and my mood! 😋😄

The idea that I can eat steak with vegetables tomorrow makes me nervous. So nervous that I don't make it until the evening. I fry the steak in the evening and put the soup to one side. Instead of a small salad without (!) dressing, I treat myself to an XL bowl with lots of dressing. I fry up some potatoes and lots of vegetables to go with the steak. I just can't take any more.

I put the cabbage soup in the back of the fridge. No, thank you. 🙅‍♀️

Day 6 of the cabbage soup diet

I abandon the experiment. I feel limp, my stomach hurts, I have dark circles under my eyes and would like to eat a pizza.

And that's what I do for lunch. I order a pizza, a salad and even a dessert. That must be the famous ravenous appetite be. But I don't care at the moment. Because I've simply eaten too much cabbage soup to lose weight in the last few days. I now need solid food again.

My conclusion

I almost made it. Cabbage soup for weight loss sounds great and logical in theory. But in truth, it's a relentless battle with yourself, with the cabbage, and with stomach problems of all kinds.

I have actually lost 2 kilos. But I also lost all my courage to face life. The desire to ever eat cabbage again has also disappeared.

Will I do the cabbage soup diet again? No. I'd rather do more sports, which is healthier, more fun, and more healthy. Helps against stress.
