It's so easy to make your own protein bars! We show you our favorite recipes for protein bars: with baking, without baking, with cottage cheese, with and without protein powder. There's something for everyone in these fitness bar recipes!

Well, who also likes to reach for a protein bar? After training, it quickly provides us with energy again. And in between as a snack, the protein bar is also well suited.

But have you ever looked at the list of ingredients? No, it really makes you lose your appetite.

Although... you can't pronounce many of the ingredients, nor have you ever heard them.

There is only one thing that helps: make protein bars yourself!

And at first glance, this sounds much more difficult than it is. Putting together a bar is anything but complicated.

I prepare these recipes regularly and am a big fan of DIY.

Protein bar vs. candy bar

Chocolate fans please be strong now :). Because compared to chocolate bars, protein bars are simply the better choice.

Homemade protein bars contain less sugar. But lots of healthy fat (from nuts).

They make you feel fuller for longer, keep blood sugar levels constant and do not contain any artificial additives.

But as with candy bars, don't overdo it with your protein bar consumption.

Because although the ingredients are healthy, the bars contain a lot of calories. Healthy calories, but still calories.

Purchased bars have only one problem: they are usually packed with preservatives, sugar substitutes, dyes and many more additives that you don't feel like eating when you're eating healthy.

Why you should make protein bars yourself

But there is more that speaks for making protein bars yourself. I have here a small list for all who are not yet convinced of DIY protein bars. At the latest after that you will look closely at purchased fitness bars.

In the meantime you can Protein bar no longer buy only in bodybuilding stores. But also in the normal supermarket or drugstore.

They are available virtually everywhere. But still, there is a lot to be said for making them yourself.

Purchased protein bars are quite expensive. That does not have to be, so I simply rely on the Make protein bar yourself.

Without a lot of frills, without additives, without high costs - but with a lot of love :)

Store-bought protein bars are calorie bombs

Ready-made protein bars from the supermarket are for the most part true calorie bombs. It says "fitness" on it, but inside is the complete opposite.

Purchased protein bars are more of a candy than a healthy snack. They often have even more calories than a piece of chocolate.

Sugar is also often present in vast quantities. Or artificial sugar substitutes. And apart from flavor enhancers and colorants, there are also a lot of agents that make the fitness bars long-lasting.

You can customize your homemade protein bars to fit your eating habits, and you can also better control the calories.

Natural ingredients for your DIY protein bars

We try to avoid artificial additives as much as possible. Clean eating is the name of the trend, in which additives of all kinds are avoided if possible. In short: no convenience products. Because they are far from natural.

Especially those who suffer from a food intolerance will know the problem. The bars often contain allergens such as soy, gluten, lactose, fructose and nuts.

If there are some that you can eat, then they cost twice as much.

Making protein bars yourself is the solution. Because then you decide which ingredients you use. And above all, which ones don't end up in the finesse bar.

Fitness bars from the supermarket are like chewing gum

Let's be honest: The consistency is really disgusting: sticky, soft, artificial. If you're lucky, the bar doesn't stick to your teeth.

Fortunately, this does not happen when you make your own protein bars. Because the ingredients are not strained to infinity.

Buy protein bar is expensive

Whether online or in the supermarket. Companies have long since recognized that protein bars are in vogue. Some of them are offered at truly horrendous prices. A small "fitness snack" can cost between 2 and 3 euros.

If you're still looking for a specific bar without nuts or vegan, it's even more expensive.

The ingredients are anything but expensive. If you make your own protein bars, you save a lot of money.

And is not annoyed that he spent a lot for a mini small bar. Even the packaging often suggests how small the protein bar is. Unpacked he shrinks again a nice piece. There is hardly anything left - except a high price.

If you bake your own fitness bars, you can also vary the size. We think it's great when not every protein bar is the same size - but made with love :)

Homemade protein bars last a week

Ok, the point goes admittedly to the purchased bars. But that's only because they are preserved with so many additives. This is quite bad for the stomach. Anyone with a sensitive stomach will feel this very quickly.

But even if you make protein bars yourself, you'll get something out of it for longer. You don't have to eat all the fitness bars right away. Stored properly, they last up to a week.

The protein bars keep best in the refrigerator. Simply put them in a Tupperware box, put a lid on it and you're done.

But sporty friends will surely be happy if you do more and spend a round.

Protein rich ingredients for making protein bars yourself

The heart of every protein bar is of course the Ingredients. They are what distinguish our homemade protein bars from the ready-made version from the supermarket.

Basically, there are hardly any limits to your imagination when making protein bars. Feel free to let off steam. So that you have a clue, we have a small list with foods rich in protein compiled.

  • Nuts and nut purees of all kinds, especially peanuts, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, hazelnuts, Cashews*, Macadamia
  • Dairy products such as cottage cheese, low-fat yogurt
  • Plant milk such as oat drink, almond drink, hazelnut drink, soy milk, rice milk
  • Eggs
  • Protein powder
  • Chia seeds*, Flaxseed*, sesame seeds, Soy flakes*

Sweet become DIY fitness bars without sugar. I take dates, dried Fruits, honey or Agave syrup*.

And Cereal flakes provide carbohydrates that we need before exercise and that give us energy. Particularly good are: Oatmeal, spelt flakes, Soy flakes*, barley, rye, rice and millet.

You can also add puffed amaranth or quinoa to the recipe. This looks incredibly great and also tastes great.

If you want to make protein bars yourself, round them off with spices. Especially good are Cinnamon*, vanilla and Cocoa powder*.

Nut puree not only adds flavor to your fitness bars, but naturally binds the loose ingredients. You can Peanut butter or Almond paste quite simple to do yourself.

Which protein powder is right for fitness bars

Protein powder ends up in some recipes. This increases the amount of protein in the recipe many times over. For your protein bars you can use normal Whey Protein. But which is the right one, you have to decide for yourself. That depends on your fitness goal.

So there are many protein powders especially for women, which help to lose weight. And on the other hand, there are protein powders that only ensure that you build muscle faster. The Shape Shake from Foodspring can do both. It helps to lose weight as well as build muscle.

I order here because the selection of flavors is so huge and there are always new seasonal ones added. So there are more fruity in the summer and gingerbread in the winter, Cinnamon* and nut.

Especially delicious for bars I find chocolate peanut, caramel or coconut crisp. You can also vary the following recipes are designed so that you can not go wrong :)

If the goal of making your own protein bars is to have a healthy snack, replace protein powder with casein.

If you want to give your workout a boost and eat the fitness bar before or after your workout, take Whey Protein Powder.

Attention, who suffers from a lactose intolerance does nothing good with Whey and Casein. If the intolerance concerns you, simply use vegan protein powder made from hemp, soy and co.

But in any case, make sure that the powder is of very good quality.

Make protein bars yourself: 4 delicious recipes for protein bars

From the infinite number of recipes for fitness bars I have chosen my 4 favorite and of course imitated.

However, the decision was not that easy. Because at the beginning the question arises: Make protein bars yourself Without baking? Or yet a protein bar recipe for baking?

I couldn't decide, so there's both baked and Raw Fitness Bars.

By the way, unbaked fitness bars have a higher nutrient content. On the other hand, they do not keep as long as baked bars.

Other important ingredients that you need for the recipe, I have picked out. You can find them on Amazon.

We start quite classically and with the most obvious: protein powder bars. The advantage of this recipe is that the protein powder determines the taste.

So you don't need to use any additional spices and you'll have your favorite flavor ready in no time.

Probably the fastest version of homemade fitness bars does not require any baking. All you need to bring is a little patience.

Because instead of being baked in the oven, the protein bars end up in the refrigerator. This is the best way for the ingredients to combine. Before eating, you should let them warm up at room temperature for at least 15 minutes, otherwise they might be very hard.

Our conclusion

Making protein bars yourself is not that difficult. If you choose a recipe without baking, it's also pretty fast. A little effort is of course behind it. But you do not fill your body with artificial additives and preservatives. Speaks for the protein bar make yourself, right? :)

We simply alternate every two weeks with fitness bar manufacturing. That way, the effort is manageable. And whether you produce 10 or 15 bars, it hardly makes a difference in terms of time.

Another advantage is that the granola bars naturally taste different every time. That's always a little surprise. Yummy!

Good luck!
