4 weeks every day 3 liters of water - we take this challenge. This is what happens to your body if you really stick to it.

Drinking plenty of water is important - it's the only way our body can function properly. You find it difficult to drink enough water despite numerous tips?

Maybe you don't know them all yet :) Here you come to the contribution "Drink more: 15 tips you don't know yet"

You still don't succeed because you can't motivate yourself? Maybe these arguments will convince you.

What happens if you drink 3 liters of water every day for a month

The positive effects of a lot of water on the body are enormous. You can say that you will notice it from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.

You have cleaner skin

Toxins that cause inflammation and pimples are easily flushed from your body. It also makes the skin less oily. In the cold season you will notice that the skin is less dry.

You become more awake

Coffee, black tea, energy drink? Forget about it! The main reason for fatigue and concentration problems is dehydration.

You lose weight

If you drink a glass of water before eating, you will have less appetite. If you drink enough throughout, you won't have cravings either. So you eat less and less often.

You have less wrinkles

Dehydrated skin tends to form wrinkles. If your body is sufficiently hydrated, this cannot happen. So with a good water balance, wrinkles simply disappear. They are padded out with water, making you look fresher.

Your liver works better

The liver cleans your blood of toxins. It can do this much better if you support it with plenty of water. You flush the liver well when you drink. What has to come out, has to come out :).

No more pain

Often muscles and also joints hurt because they are supplied with too little water.

Your memory gets better

If your brain cells get enough fluid, they can work better. You can think faster, more efficiently, more clearly and also more concentrated.

Your digestion gets better

For the digestion of food, our body needs a lot of liquid. A healthy water balance keeps digestion on the go. Those who drink too little often suffer from constipation.

You are sick less often

Drinking a lot strengthens the immune system. The body's defense mechanisms work better when you have consumed a lot of water. Viruses are simply flushed out of your body.

You have good mood

You know that throbbing headache that puts you in a bad mood? Often you get it from not drinking enough. Lack of water in the brain and body cells makes us grumpy and in a very bad mood.

That's the theory behind a video that's currently floating around on Facebook. But is it really like that or just a great marketing stunt?

The self-experiment: 4 weeks 3 liters of water

Lisa and Lydia dare to try it themselves. As we all know, it's easier when there are two of you. :) We simply start our New Year's resolution today - better late than never 😁.

drink more water

The water drinking tactics

  • Always have a big glass of water and a pitcher next to you
  • Drink half a liter of water directly after getting up
  • The first thing you do when you get home is to drink half a liter of water.
  • Before lunch you drink your 1 liter water jug empty
  • In the afternoon there's another jug

Then when you go to bed at night, you've managed the amount of water. And on the first days a real water belly 😅

However, it gets better after a short time. You get used to the large amounts of water relatively quickly.

The only problem is that water itself tastes rather boring and does not encourage drinking. Fruit juices, however, contain many calories again. It's a vicious circle.

With a few pieces of fruit, vegetables or herbs it is already much easier. You have every day anew the chance to discover delicious flavors. By the way, ginger also tastes very delicious and is very healthy at the same time!

Our water diary week 1

Day 1:

It's a well-known fact that the beginning is always the hardest part of everything. It's the same with drinking water.

For breakfast I have a glass of water and only then a muesli. It's a strange feeling to drink so much water on an empty stomach.

When we arrive at the office, we are fully motivated and first fill up the water jugs. We have specially bought new Water jugs with a built-in strainer* ordered from Amazon. So you can add fruit and herbs to the water and don't have to worry about them ending up in the glass. One jug measures exactly 1.5 liters. Perfect for keeping track of everything.

Before the meal, the first pitcher is emptied. With the meal also a small glass of water and until 4 pm the next jug - at least almost. A few sips are still missing. Intermediate status? Only one more glass, then the daily goal is reached.

Conclusion: The belly is bubbling. Fortunately, the toilet is just around the corner.

Day 2:

Lisa starts the day with an XXL cup of tea. Lydia with homemade orange juice. After all, you have to treat yourself to a change.

In the office, the jugs are filled again and off we go. We both stick to the tactic of orienting ourselves to lunch. That way, we always have a precise schedule.

drink more water

Does a water belly count as a positive effect? No? Then you and I still don't notice anything about the alleged improvement from drinking so much water.

We stick to it anyway and go home filled to the top with water.

Day 3:

Water again? Today we try it with tea. A big pot and lukewarm it tastes best.

Lydia has a liter of mixed herbal tea in the morning and Lisa has chamomile tea. So that it does not become boring, it is exchanged in the afternoon. By the way, it tastes especially delicious with a little honey :)

If you want, you can also simply get a Make your own iced tea.

Note Lisa: I notice that I am fitter and in a better mood in the morning.

Day 4:

Today remains classic: tap water. No special occurrences, except that the midday low is strikingly weak.

The typical "I can't concentrate" and "I'm soooo tired" don't exist today, Thursday.

Note Lydia: The body and especially the bladder have apparently become accustomed to the water masses.

Day 5:

Friday - finally the weekend is within reach just like water glasses on our desks :)

Again, a new tactic to drink more: DIY Infused Water.

  • Infused water with oranges and raspberries

Oranges provide vitamin C and bring flavor to our waters.

  • Infused water with ginger

When it's cold outside, you have to adapt your drinks to the conditions. Ginger is not only healthy, it also warms you from the inside.

Also very tasty: mint, lemon, raspberries.

The first weekend:

It's slowly becoming a routine. The only problem is the weekends. Irregular meal times and wake-up times make it hard to stick to the plan.

Mutual Whatsapp messages and snaps of glasses, bottles and drinks not only make us smile, but serve their purpose :)

Lydia's Weekend Tactics: The water bottle is always with you. Even to the shopping the bottle comes along.

Lisa's Weekend Tactics: Save reminders in the calendar. Every hour there is a small reminder.

Conclusion week 1

It's really much more difficult than I thought. But with two people, you can spur each other on and motivate them to take another sip.

A quick glance from one desk to the other is all it takes for both of them to know what to do: first, take a big gulp.

Week 2

Water again? No, somehow we don't feel like it. But what do you do for the many benefits? And we already notice a few small ones.

Lisa for example, no longer feels so limp and tired. Your Concentration gets better and the Midday low does not turn out so hard.

"I've already gotten used to drinking at work, but in my free time it's quite complicated. Drinking can sometimes fall by the wayside. I just make up for it later."

Lydia torments himself quite the many water to drink. Especially now in winter, you hardly feel thirsty. With Lisa's help, however, it works out quite well.

"What works out really great is when we have hourly targets and I'm hard on myself. Until the glass is empty, there's no lunch." In the morning, drinking water still works without any taste - i.e. without fruit and vegetables.

In the afternoon Cucumber, Orange, Mint and ginger ensure that drinking is easier and also successful. In the evening, directly before the training, there is nothing to drink. But afterwards, double that. "Even though the workout is sweaty, I feel Hardly thirst. I think it's because of the amount my body has taken in."

Week 3

Note Lydia: I imagine that my skin is getting better. Blackheads make my life difficult every now and then - sometimes on the right, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the top, sometimes on the bottom - one always pops up somewhere. Apparently they get rinsed out with the water. Is this the solution to my long skin problems?

And just between us girls: The pimples before the period also turn out not so blatant this time. With me, they can get really nasty about a week before. This time only one can be seen.

Note Lisa: I feel much more energetic. Outside of the office, however, it's still quite a challenge to reach for water regularly. At work, I just fill up my empty 1-liter bottle with tap water. At home, I treat myself to tap water with strawberries. You should definitely try this! Tastes pleasantly fruity and not as boring as normal water.

Week 4

Oh, already the last week? While the first few days went by slowly, it's now going by properly. Reaching for the glass has somehow become routine. The hand wanders there automatically. Man is and remains a creature of habit.

The glass is right next to the keyboard, so you can't miss it. You just have to trick yourself and come up with new ways to not forget to drink.

But the weekends are still difficult. Lots of distractions, little routine - you have to find the right tactics first. Maybe there's one for you here: "15 tricks to drink more water that you don't know yet".

Our conclusion

In the beginning it is very difficult to stick to drinking so much. Water, water and more water. That gets really boring after a while. With a few little tricks, the many drink but works relatively well.

The positive effects already start after the third day - we didn't expect that. We both want to try to keep up the drinking. We won't be drinking more than 3 liters, but we have to be able to drink 2 liters a day.

The first thing we treated ourselves to after the challenge is, by the way, a great smoothie. Finally drink something different :)
