You've only been at work for two hours and your stomach is already grumbling? It's probably the wrong breakfast. Eating the right breakfast helps you lose weight and start the day well. A healthy couscous breakfast is a good choice.

When it comes to breakfast, opinions vary widely. I, for example, need a healthy breakfast to be able to cope with my day. If there is no breakfast because the morning was very stressful, the whole day is actually in the bucket.

Which already leads to the problem with breakfast. Most of the time there is simply too little time in the morning. Getting up is too hard to enjoy a super relaxed breakfast. That's why warm couscous breakfast porridge is the perfect food in the morning. The porridge is quick to make, healthy and filling.

And even if there are many divided opinions on the subject. It makes sense that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast determines whether you have enough energy for the day or whether you eat a donut during your coffee break because you're already so hungry.

  • Cut one of the mangos into cubes and puree the pulp of the second mango to a pulp. Then you can add the diced mango to the pureed one. However, it tastes just as good to eat only pieces or only puree for breakfast porridge.
  • Mix the coconut milk in a saucepan with cinnamon and vanilla (amount according to taste) and bring to a boil.
  • Then add the couscous and remove the pot from the heat. Let the couscous swell for 10 minutes until the milk has disappeared.

My Tip: Although the mangoes taste great with the vegan Couscous breakfastbut they are small time-consumers. If you can't find the time in the morning, no problem. You can just as well use ready-made applesauce. Tastes delicious and is simply faster. If you want to do without all the additives in the applesauce, here's a recipe for Applesauce without sugar.

What is couscous actually?

Couscous is an important ingredient in North African cuisine. However, the small balls are not a grain of their own but processed grain. Couscous consists of ground semolina. Most often, the couscous in the store consists of durum wheat semolina.

The traditional production by hand is very laborious, only through the machine production couscous also came to us.

Is couscous healthy?

Couscous is a very filling side dish. But the fact that couscous is not exactly low in calories is not a problem. Because in the whole grain version, couscous contains a lot of fiber. This means that it can prevent cravings.

Plus, a 150g serving of cooked couscous has only 1.5 to 3 grams of fat. That's why couscous is such a great breakfast.

Couscous has enough vitamins and minerals to be very healthy. For example, it contains iron, zinc and magnesium. If you eat the couscous with vegetables or salad containing vitamin C, the body can absorb zinc and iron even better.

If you reach for spelt couscous, you also get about 11 grams of protein per meal (for about 150 g of cooked couscous).

For whom is couscous taboo?

Couscous is a cereal product containing gluten. Therefore, people who suffer from celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, better leave it alone.

Does the right breakfast help you lose weight?

Some studies say yes, other studies find breakfast has nothing to do with losing weight.

Maybe in this case you should listen more to your own body and rely on yourself. What feels good can't be the worst thing. This also applies to breakfast. Breakfast haters will not lose weight better just because they force themselves to eat breakfast now.

But what is definitely clear. A healthy, filling breakfast can help you avoid cravings in the first place. Because if you start the day well satiated, you can concentrate fully on your work in the morning and don't starve to death until lunch.

Provided you do not make one of the 7 biggest breakfast mistakesthat exist.

This makes it easier to control your portions and eat healthy and balanced. And then you also lose weight.

Because you have less time during the week, you quickly fall into a "breakfast rut". If you have the same bland breakfast in front of you every day, you'll quickly get bored.

To make breakfast fun again, you can always try something new. Like  Curd spreads the day before or make the Breakfast egg times enjoy in an avocado.

For a weekend breakfast are especially good homemade Waffles. You can enjoy them sweet or savory. Of course, the recipes are waffles without sugar. Healthy enjoyment is also the top priority at the weekend.

Our conclusion

Whether the morning starts out relaxed or a little hectic. A Couscous breakfast makes you full in a healthy way, is very tasty and also good for those with a sweet tooth. The preparation of the warm cereal porridge is not difficult and you can also prepare and freeze larger portions. Then you save even more time.

A little tip at the end: You can prepare the mango and the couscous the night before. Then simply make the couscous warm in the microwave. Ready :)
