You are really hungry and want your tuna wraps to be low carb and quick to prepare? Then you've come to the right place. We show you how to replace classic wrap dough with a crunchy lettuce leaf.

Eating with pleasure, saving time and eating fewer carbs at the same time. That sounds like a plan that is not so easy to implement at first glance. But it's not witchcraft.

If you want tuna wraps to be low carb, then all you have to do is substitute the batter. This works out wonderfully if you prepare a wrap batter without flour. Or you can save yourself the time and use a crisp lettuce leaf instead.

Today we want to show you how you can prepare a wholesome and healthy lunch or dinner in no time. And completely without carbohydrates.

Are you ready? Then grab the head of lettuce and let's go!

What ingredients do I need for these low carb wraps?

Before we get right to the recipe, I want to show you what ingredients you need. I'll also tell you which ingredients you can substitute if you don't have them on hand.

Salad

In this recipe I use iceberg lettuce.

Radicchio is a good choice or the large leaves of chicory. If you're a salad fan, you may also know Radicchio di Castelfranco, it's green and has red specks. There is also pink radicchio or endive.

If you like, you can also use Chinese cabbage to turn low carb wraps.

Rolling up the leaves is not always easy. Use the outer, large leaves for this. If the stalk is too massive, you can either partially remove it or flatten it with your hands.

Tuna

You can buy tuna in its own juice or you can choose tuna in oil. If you choose the oily version, you will get about 225 calories for 100 grams.

Tuna in its own juice makes it to 98 calories.

There is now also vegan tuna, which comes very close in taste to the original. Maybe that's worth a try?

Cream cheese

To make the tuna creamier and at the same time manage to keep the tuna wraps low carb, we need a dairy product.

You can use sour cream, cream cheese, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. Gladly also cream cheese with herbs.

If a high protein content is important to you, then opt for low-fat Greek yogurt or cream cheese. You can save calories with low-fat cottage cheese.

Vegetables

Here everything is allowed that you like and what you have at home. If you're still looking for inspiration, you'll find a list of ingredients that go well with tuna directly below the recipe.

Recipe: Low carb tuna wraps

You want your tuna wraps to be low carb? Then let's get right to it with the recipe. Here you'll find instructions for those who have never used lettuce as a wrap substitute. You'll learn how to fold the lettuce leaves and what to look for.

If you've made wraps with lettuce before, you'll find a quick version of the recipe at the end of the post with exact nutritional information per serving.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cucumber
  • 1/4 paprika
  • 3 radishes
  • 2 tablespoons corn
  • 1 shallot
  • 50 g cream cheese
  • 1/2 can tuna
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 large lettuce leaf

Also: knife, board, bowl

Preparations

Cook the egg until it is soft to the core, which takes about 6 to 7 minutes. The yolk is mostly hard at this point, but still has a small liquid center. This makes it not so dry and it combines very well with the tuna.

While the egg is cooking, take care of the rest of the ingredients.

Wash cucumber, bell bell pepper and radish.

Cut the cucumber and radishes into thin slices. The bell bell pepper does best if you cut it into strips. Set the vegetables aside.

Wash the corn kernels under running water and chop the shallot.

Prepare the filling

Now the egg should be ready. Hold it under cold water and peel it. Roughly cut it open.

Put the egg in a bowl.

Open the tuna can, put the contents in a colander and drain.

Mix the tuna with cream cheese, lemon juice, egg, corn and shallot.

Fold the low carb wrap

Use one large lettuce leaf per wrap.

If you want to roll lettuce wraps, it's not that much different than traditional wraps.

Apply the filling in the lower third of each lettuce leaf. Preferably in an elongated strip.

First spread the tuna spread into the lettuce leaf.

After that, put the vegetables in the wrap.

Fold the lettuce leaf 1x over the filling. Then fold in the bottom edge and roll up the lettuce leaf towards the top.

If the lettuce leaf is small, you can use two. Or simply use less filling. Done!

How can I refine the recipe?

The easiest way to form iceberg lettuce leaves into wraps. If this is too boring for you in terms of taste, go for spicier lettuce.

You can fill the wraps with many ingredients. I have compiled a list of foods that go well with tuna:

  • Paprika
