Muesli, fruit or rolls for breakfast? Unimaginative! How about a protein pancake recipe? You'll get an extra serving of protein for your workout. We have tested two recipes. Conclusion: Super tasty.

More and more fitness fans swear by protein recipes. If you've had enough of protein shakes, you should definitely try these two protein pancake recipes.

Whether for breakfast, as a snack or after a workout - these two recipes simply always tasted good. Especially with fresh fruit, yogurt, nuts or sugar-free chocolate. Yummy!

The great thing about them? They fill you up and give you plenty of power for your workout. And on top of that, they are easy to prepare.

And let's be honest: Pancakes just always go. But you don't have to use white flour or sugar. It's also much healthier.

What ingredients make up a protein pancake recipe?

Let's take a quick look at the ingredient list. I want to tell you a few words about each of the many ingredients. After all, you should know what you're eating.

There are a myriad of recipes for egg white pancakes. I have experimented a bit to compile the - in my opinion - best. What is especially important to me: they should not taste too much like protein powder and be naturally sweetened.

Protein powder in pancakes

Depending on the manufacturer and variety, the nutritional values can vary greatly. Foodspring protein powder contains 76 g protein, 5.4 g fat and 5.4 g carbohydrates per 100 grams.

Tip: I always order my protein powder from Foodspring, because there are so many different flavors. If you are interested in the products, I can give you a Foodspring discount code give. With the code WGW15FS you get 15 % discount on your order!

The egg in the pancakes

If you don't eat a vegan diet, you'll love the first recipe. The egg ensures that the dough stiffens during baking and does not remain so liquid.

If you want to try the recipe and do not want to use eggs, you can use the Replace egg with applesauce. The protein powder keeps the protein content in the pancakes very high even without the egg.

By the way, one chicken egg in size M provides 7 grams of protein.

Wholemeal flour

Vegan protein pancakes usually have whole wheat flour or shredded oatmeal in the batter in addition to the protein powder. You can choose here what you feel like. My clear favorite is to mix whole spelt flour with vegan protein powder.

Spelt flour keeps you full for a very long time and is considered healthy. But who wants, can also be made from Prepare coconut flour pancakes and thus provide an extra high protein content.

Protein pancakes sweeten

In the first recipe you will find bananas as a natural sweetener. When the peel starts to get blotchy, many don't want to eat the bananas anymore. Throwing them away is way too bad, so you should turn them into pancakes or add them to smoothies.

Supposedly, brown bananas are even a natural means to prevent cancer. I could read that recently in a magazine when I had to wait at the dentist.

You should avoid unripe bananas, because they make even the best protein pancake recipe bitter and anything but delicious.

If you don't have a banana handy, you can check out the second recipe. Here nothing is used to provide sweetness, except the protein powder. The recipe is ideal for those who do not like it so sweet. Only with the topping you bring sweetness into the protein pancakes - so you can control the taste very well.

If you like it sweet, the protein pancakes can also be a little Erythritol* or Birch sugar* mix in. I like to fry a pancake and taste it straight away. This is the best way to season it.

What can you use to increase the protein in your pancakes?

Of course, the topping also determines whether the little pancakes really pass for a fitness snack or not. With the wrong topping, you can turn any protein pancake recipe into an unhealthy calorie bomb.

Try it with these toppings:

  • Natural yogurt - first of all Greek yogurt
  • Curd cheese - reduced fat (= more protein, fewer calories and less fat)
  • All kinds of nuts
  • Coconut flakes
  • And, of course, fresh fruit, homemade fruit puree, spices such as Cinnamon* or cocoa

Vegan pancakes

By the way: You can also prepare these two protein pancakes recipes wonderfully. You can either mix the batter and add it to the pan later or bake the pancakes and store them in a Tupperware box.

And later just warm them up briefly in the microwave. So you can even take them to work the next day. Works wonderfully. I do this regularly. In a second bowl I have fruit with and ready is the afternoon snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 Egg
  • 60 Gram Protein powder Vanilla or chocolate
  • 1 EL Mineral water optional
  • some Oil/margarine

Anleitung

  • The riper the banana, the tastier the pancakes. The bananas may already have brown peels.
  • Mash the banana with a fork in a bowl. And keep doing this until you have a nice even mash.
    1 ripe banana
  • Mix banana puree, egg and protein powder to a dough. This works wonderfully with a fork. You can also use a whisk for this.
1 egg, 60 gram protein powder
  • Basically, the bigger the egg and the riper the banana, the more runny the pancakes will be. Therefore, you may need to use even more protein powder. The batter should be thick.
  • If you like, you can add 2 tablespoons of mineral water. This will make the dough fluffier - but you may have to use more protein powder.
    1 tablespoon mineral water
  • Heat oil or margarine in a frying pan. And bake the pancakes out.
    some oil/margarine

Or do you prefer vegan? Do you not tolerate lactose or eggs? Here, too, there are of course alternatives to the recipe presented. Vegan protein powder can be used to make wonderful pancakes. Mixed with whole spelt flour, they are not only delicious, but also healthy.

Which recipe do you choose? No matter, what always goes wonderfully with fresh fruit. Or (vegan) yogurt. Preferably both in combination :)

Our tip

There are a variety of protein pancake recipes. The pancakes taste especially good with fruit, which gives the whole thing a particularly delicious flavor. Either you give the fruit on top or you work it directly into the dough.

Enjoy it!
