What can not be missing in the summer? A delicious cucumber salad with sour cream and dill! Mega refreshing, quickly prepared and healthy. What more could you want?

Whether as a side dish at the barbecue or on really hot days as a main course with a piece of bread or potatoes - cucumber salad with sour cream simply always tastes good.

There are so incredibly many recipes for salad from cucumbers. The classic and my absolute favorite is and remains sour cream cucumber salad with fresh dill.

It tastes very refreshing, is not in the stomach and is excellent with barbecue dishes.

Especially in combination with fish or jacket potatoes I find dill cucumber salad unbeatable.

In less than 15 minutes, the salad is ready and waiting on the table. Perfect also for hot days at work.

Prepare at home, refrigerate at work, and enjoy something at lunch that cools you down inside.

Whether you need to peel the cucumbers

To peel or not to peel - that is the question here :) We say quite clearly: Do not peel. With most vegetables, important nutrients are hidden in the peel.

When we peel them, we just throw them in the compost. But our body would be mega happy about it. So that really does not have to be.

Peel the cucumber when the skin is tough. Otherwise, it does not need to peel.

Visually, it looks nice if you peel the cucumber around about 3 times. So that beautiful strips arise. But does not have to be :)

How to prepare the cucumber salad with sour cream

Cucumbers consist of more than 90 percent water. As soon as we cut them into small pieces, we notice that. The water just runs out of the vegetables.

Cucumber salad with sour cream

That is precisely why you should prepare a cucumber salad with sour cream. Because otherwise the salad becomes mega liquid. Which is also not bad. But a highlight just also not.

  1. Wash the cucumber and cut it into thin slices with a kitchen slicer.
  2. Put them in a bowl and take about 1 tablespoon of salt per cucumber
  3. Salt the cucumber properly. Stir so that each slice gets salt.
  4. Now put the cucumber slices in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.

And then it can go to the recipe :)

What speaks for cucumber salad with sour cream

I am a big fan of the salad. But that's not enough as an argument, of course. At the latest, if you have read through these points, you will also love it :)

It is very low in calories

105 calories per serving, assuming that one person eats half a cucumber. More likely it will be 1/4 cucumber and thus it is only 50 calories per cucumber salad per person. That is really mega little.

If you had prepared the salad with vinegar and oil, you would be at 270 calories instead of 105. Even the mega low calorie lettuce with vinegar and oil has more calories than the cucumber salad.

Sugar is used in many recipes. But you can do without it. This way you keep the calorie count low and avoid unnecessary sugar.

Also good for beginners

You are not a professional in the kitchen? You don't have to be. Cucumber salad with sour cream can be made by anyone.

Dill cucumber salad with sour cream

The only thing you really have to watch out for is that you don't get too much salt. You absolutely have to clarify that before you put the sour cream on the cucumber salad.

You can customize cucumber salad with sour cream flexibly

Garlic doesn't agree with you? Then try garlic powder or garlic oil. It is more digestible and for many who have problems with fresh garlic, a good alternative.

You don't like onion? Then just leave them out.

The salad looks boring? Yes, of course, the eye eats with you. For color, we cut a bit of red onion into the salad. It's less about the taste than the color. Also doing well:

  • Paprika powder
  • Curry powder
  • Radish
  • Bell pepper yellow or red
  • and actually pretty much anything you feel like.

What is the difference between a land cucumber and a snake cucumber

So you want to make a dill cucumber salad and wonder which variety would be better?

You can take both cucumbers. The biggest difference is the water content. Whipped cucumbers contain more water, are usually larger and have only very small seeds.

Land cucumbers are also called field cucumbers. They are smaller and have a slightly thicker skin. They are often used as pickling cucumbers or for pickling cucumber recipes.

Barbecue party salads simple

Larger cucumbers have more seeds. You can either remove them with a spoon or just eat them.

Taste-wise, it doesn't make a difference whether you turn a snake cucumber or a land cucumber into lettuce.

Our conclusion

Dill cucumber salad with sour cream and garlic is mega quick to prepare, low in calories and should not be missing in the summer kitchen. I love to combine it with jacket potatoes and a little salt. Ready is the food for hot days.

Enjoy! :)
