Make your own oat milk without slime - oat milk cocoa

As promised the quick Recipe for hot chocolate with homemade oat milk. By the way, I love oat milk not only because of its taste, but also because it does not burn in the pot and does not form a milk skin (iiiihhh disgusting).

I've been very low sugar for a while now, so no sweetness goes into the cocoa. If that is too little sweet for you, you can use a little Xylitol* to help. But try it without.

I take raw Cocoa powder*. So without sugar and unprocessed. It tastes super chocolaty!

The hot chocolate becomes really nice dark brown. I love this drink :)

Cocoa powder* is a great source of magnesium. As a runner, I need a lot of it to avoid calf cramps.

Why oat milk is worth making yourself

Oatmeal is crazy healthy. They have a very high quality nutrient composition and keep you full for a long time due to complex carbohydrates. The dietary fibers are good for digestion. In addition, the small flakes are even able to suppress cravings.

If you want to benefit from it, you don't have to eat porridge or muesli every day. The milk also contains a lot of positive properties.

But there are many more reasons why it is worth making oatmeal milk. I'll tell you my top 3 here.

The price of vegetable milk

A liter of organic oat drink costs 2.19 euros at the store around the corner. The package contains nothing more than oat flakes, water and a little salt. I pay 65 cents for 500 grams of oatmeal in the store. That's enough to make 5 liters of oat milk.

Determine the quantity yourself

1 liter of oat milk should be drunk within 3 days. At least that's what it says on the packaging of the supermarket variety. I'll never manage that. Whether the oat milk is really bad after 3 days, I do not know. I would also not like to find out. Therefore pays Make your own oat milk namely also from.

Oat milk make your own oatmeal

When I make the plant drink itself, I make only as much of it as I really need. As soon as I notice that the milk is running low, I boil myself some more.

By the way, this also saves a lot of waste.

Make your own oat milk tastes better

Often oat milk from the supermarket tastes very watery. When I make the plant milk myself, the taste is much fuller and nuttier. This tastes especially wonderful in hot chocolate and in mueslis.

That's all the arguments you need, isn't it? :) For the beginning you can just make a small amount. Then you see whether that is something for you or rather not.

What you need for the oat milk recipe

Quite logical: oatmeal. I always use organic quality. Whether you take tender or coarse flakes, you can decide for yourself. Most recipes get by with 80 grams for 1 liter. I take 100 grams, which tastes just a little more intense and the milk is also a little thicker.

Tap water is another ingredient. And then alternatively sweetener of choice. You can use bananas, dates, Xylitol* or honey. I do without sweetness and prefer to use a very small pinch of salt.

For making oat milk you need a good Blender* or a high-powered blender. These household appliances help you to crush the flakes. If you don't use them, they will hardly give off any flavor. The better chopped the flakes are, the more intense the oatmeal milk will be.

And finally, you need a filter or a very fine sieve. Both help you to filter the suspended solids from the oat flakes out of the milk. If the sieve is too coarse, it can happen that pieces of the flakes end up in the milk. This doesn't bother with muesli. However, I don't like it at all in cocoa.

Oat drink with cocoa

Because I regularly make my own oat milk, I got myself a nut milk bag. This is a very fine mesh cloth bag that doesn't let any oat bits through. So you get pure oat milk.

And, of course, bottles for filling. Here, bottles with screw caps are best suited. A jug without a lid is not ideal. The milk very quickly and well takes on flavor of ingredients from the refrigerator.

Our conclusion

Making your own oat milk is totally easy. All you need is oats, water and optionally a little salt or spice. Once you've made your own plant-based drink, I guarantee you'll never want to buy any again :)
