You want to make plasticine and wonder how to do it? Here's how you can make your own plasticine soap with just a few ingredients!

If you're looking for an idea for a great DIY gift or want to treat yourself, wash clay is for you!

Washing hands with colorful and fragrant washing clay is great fun for young and old. After all, the soap can be wonderfully shaped, colored and given a wonderful scent.

And the best thing about it: Make your own soap is easy and fun!

Let's get right to the ingredients. If you're lucky, you'll already have them all at home and can start the project right away.

What ingredients you need to make your own kneading soap

Before we get started, let's take a look at the ingredients. Get everything ready, weigh the ingredients carefully. Then you'll be ready in no time.

The shower gel

Do you have a favorite shower gel? Then you can turn it into laundry soap. You can also try liquid soap. It doesn't foam up as well when you wash your hands, but it keeps them germ-free.

If you want to make the kneading soap for a friend, look around her a bit. Try to find out what kind of shower gel she likes to use. If you want to color the plasticine later, use a shower gel that is white. Otherwise, you might end up with very strange color combinations :)

Want to make your own personalized kneaded soap? Luckily, you have all the freedom in the world when it comes to DIY.

There are two options.

  1. You take a shower gel that already contains color and fragrance.
  2. You take a neutral shower gel that you color yourself and make it fragrant with an essential oil.

You save work and time with the first version. But it becomes more personal with fragrance and color, which you determine yourself. If you like, you can also add a little Glitter* to make your own kneading soap. But be careful not to use too much!

The essential oils

Essential oils provide the scent in the kneaded soap. Maybe you have a favorite scent that you particularly like?

If you want to make your own kneading soap with children, it is better to avoid essential oils. They are very intense and can cause itching and redness on sensitive skin.

It is important that you use oils that have an excellent quality. Cheap fragrances have no place on our skin. Even as an adult, you should not get too much fragrance oil. Because our skin also reacts sensitively to too much essential oil.

But a few drops are enough anyway. Because essential oil is highly concentrated.

The corn starch

You have no Cornstarch* at hand? Then you can also use potato starch. Both fulfill the same purpose: they ensure that the washing dough takes on a shape. Without starch, it would not be possible to make your own kneading soap. It is a carrier for fragrance and color.

If water comes to the wash dough later, the starch simply dissolves.

Food and soap colors

I opted for beautiful light pastel colors. If you want that too, you must use very little color. Most soap colors are very intense. Just 1-2 drops are enough to mix a nice pastel color.

Do not use too much color. Otherwise your fingers and nails will turn colorful when you wash them. So the hand washing would be completely in vain.

Ingredients you need for DIY laundry dough you either already have at home or you can buy them on Amazon. I have at Cornstarch* and Food coloring* purchased online.

Anleitung

Make the kneading soap yourself

  • Mix shower gel and cooking oil in a bowl. Add the cornstarch and knead the ingredients with your hands.
  • The mass should now feel about like play dough. Is it too wet? Then use more cornstarch. Is it too firm? Then add a little shower gel. Now add a pinch of salt to the mixture to keep it fresh longer.

Color the wash dough

  • Divide the dough into 2-3 bowls. Put on gloves to protect yourself from the paint.
  • Add a little paint to the first bowl. Caution: It is better to use too little than too much. Knead the mixture well until you get a nice uniform color. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the result.

Shape the wash dough

  • Sprinkle the work surface with cornstarch. Sprinkle the rolling pin with cornstarch so that it does not stick. Roll out the dough until it is about 2 cm thick.
  • Place the three doughs on top of each other and roll them up.
  • Cut the rolled dough into pieces. Either leave them as they are or shape them into balls. Done!

How long the shelf life of homemade laundry soap

If you now have the small colorful soaps in front of you, you are certainly wondering how long a kneaded soap is durable. That was at least my first question directly after the production.

To increase the shelf life a bit, add salt to the mass.

Washing clay does not last as long as regular soap. How long it lasts depends a lot on how you store it. If stored incorrectly, it will become dry, crumbly and no longer usable.

If you want to make kneading soap yourself, you should absolutely have a glass jar with a screw cap at hand. It does not have to be a special jar, even an old jam jar will do the trick.

Make sure the jar has a large opening so you can remove the wash dough more easily.

What you need to pay attention to when washing your hands with kneaded soap

Wash soap does not feel like normal soap. When dry, it is softer and feels almost velvety. When wet, homemade kneaded soap lathers up nicely. The Cornstarch* dissolves with water and is virtually unnoticeable.

Otherwise, however, everything proceeds as with normal hand washing. So wet your hands, take the soap, lather up, put the soap away and rinse your hands.

I don't recommend making giant kneaded soaps. Once they are wet, storing them is a bit difficult. Do not put them back in the jar with the others, otherwise all the soaps will start to disintegrate. Use them up quickly. I use one soap for 4 hand washes.

Our conclusion

Make your own plasticine soap is child's play and fun not only for the little ones. You can put the plasticine in a nice jar and wrap it as a gift. Or you just keep it yourself and enjoy the wonderful scent and beautiful colors :)

Good luck and have fun making it!
