Thus, there are special scrubs for dry legs, such as our Peeling with sugar and lavender. Or the hand scrub with Coconut oil* and sea salt, which we are presenting to you today.

You really don't have to buy scrubs. For most, you just stir 2-3 ingredients together. And that's it. This saves a lot of money, artificial ingredients and dyes.

But first a few sentences about scrubs for the hands. Sports like climbing, body weight exercises, but also care products or simply dry heating air in autumn and winter cause dry skin. Especially on the fingers this is really unpleasant.

The fingers tighten and become cracked. This not only looks unsightly, it can also be painful. With a nourishing hand scrub with coconut oil and a rich cream you can counteract the problem.

With scrubs you can even ingrown hairs on the legs prevent. Because making peeling yourself is such an exciting topic, we have already written a few articles about it - among others about ultra fast lip scrubs!

But today we want to devote ourselves entirely to our hands.

What ingredients I needed for hand scrub with coconut oil?

The ingredients for your scrub are quickly listed: Salt, essential oil and coconut oil. That's all you need. But why are these ingredients so good for our hands?

Before we get to the hand scrub recipe, here are a few words about the ingredients.

Coconut oil in hand scrub

Coconut oil is particularly nourishing and very skin-friendly. In addition, it smells very good. The oil cleanses the skin and has an antibacterial effect.

It also has the advantage that it does not clog the pores. The ingredients of coconut oil provide the skin with a lot of moisture. The hands become very supple and soft.

  1. Moisturizing: Coconut oil is rich in healthy fatty acids that deeply moisturize your skin. It keeps your hands soft and prevents dryness.
  2. Antibacterial properties: The oil contains antimicrobial properties that can help keep bacteria off your hands and prevent possible infections.
  3. Rich nutrients: Coconut oil contains vitamins and minerals that promote skin health and make it glow.
  4. Pleasant fragrance: The natural, tropical scent of coconut oil turns your hand scrub into a spa experience that pampers not only your skin, but your senses as well.

Sea salt in hand scrub with coconut oil

Sea salt provides the exfoliating effect that our hands will love. Its granular structure gently removes dead skin cells. When you rub your hands, you ensure good blood circulation.

  1. Minerals: Sea salt contains minerals like magnesium and calcium that are good for your skin. They can help nourish and revitalize it. This strengthens the nails and cleanses the skin.
  2. Detoxifying properties: The salt can help draw toxins from the skin and clear it, which is important for a healthy appearance.
  3. Stimulates blood circulation: Exfoliating with sea salt stimulates blood circulation in your skin. This can help your hands look more radiant and vibrant.
  4. Absorbs excess oil: If your skin is too oily, sea salt can absorb excess oil and balance your skin.

In our hand scrub with coconut oil ends up a mix of finer sea salt and coarser Himalayan salt, which provides a beautiful pink color. Himalayan salt is known for its richness in potassium, magnesium and iron.

Essential oils in scrub for dry hands

Essential oils can not be missing. They provide fragrance and have very positive effects on the body. I have chosen this time for grapefruit oil. The scent has an invigorating effect and is unbeatable in combination with coconut oil!

And in addition there's for the fragrance a few dried lavender flowers*. It also looks good. At first, you won't be able to smell much of the flowers. But when you rub the scrub in, the flowers give off a really good aroma.

Recipe to make your own hand scrub with coconut oil

Instructions: Make your own hand scrub with coconut oil

This tutorial is for those who are just starting to make natural cosmetics. Therefore, I describe the steps in great detail. If you regularly make creams, peelings and co, you will find a short version of the instructions at the end of the post.

Are you ready to get started? Then set aside these utensils:

  • one tablespoon
  • a bowl for mixing
  • a glass for filling

You don't need much more for the hand scrub. Except, of course, the ingredients. The salts, organic coconut oil, essential oils and dried lavender flowers* you can buy in large quantities from Amazon. They will last you a very long time and you can start many different natural cosmetics projects. Buying in bulk is good for the environment and your wallet.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon Himalayan salt
  • 10 drops grapefruit oil
  • 1 pinch dried lavender flowers*

Preparation:

Melt coconut oil

First we need to get the coconut oil soft. I always store it in the refrigerator, which makes it hard as stone. But already from 23 ° coconut oil begins to become liquid.

At room temperature, you therefore only need to put the oil out of the refrigerator for about an hour so that it has the perfect consistency. It should not be completely liquid, but nice and creamy soft. If you don't have that much time, you can use the microwave or a stove.

Put the coconut oil in a pot. You can also put it in a cup if you want to use a microwave.

In the microwave, 20 seconds at maximum power is often enough. It doesn't take much longer in the pot either.

If the oil has become too liquid, pour it into a cool bowl, it will quickly begin to solidify again. Perfect for hand scrub!

Mix salts

Put the sea salt and Himalayan salt in a bowl. If it seems too coarse, use a mortar to crush the salt crystals a bit. The finer the crystals, the more pleasant the salt.

Stir the salts well.

Mix ingredients

Mix the coconut oil with the salts. Stir well so that the exfoliating crystals are evenly distributed.

Add the essential oil. Please do not add more than 10 drops, otherwise it may irritate the skin. You can use any oil you like. I like to use citrus oils for the hands.

Finally you sprinkle dried lavender flowers* into the scrub and spoon it into the prepared glass.

Screw it down and you're done!

Fill your finished scrub for the hands in a jar with a cap. Canning jars are very suitable. You can also use old jam jars or pickle jars.

Add a nice label and you'll make a beautiful and practical gift for a dear friend!

How do I properly apply a hand scrub with coconut oil?

And now it's time to apply.

  • Wash your hands under lukewarm water. Pat them dry.
  • Take 1⁄2 to 1 tablespoon of the hand scrub. Put the scrub into your hands and rub it into the palm of your hand first, using circular motions.
  • Then on the back of the hand and between the fingers.
  • Leave the scrub on for 1 minute and rinse your hands with lukewarm water. Do NOT use any additional cream now - the coconut oil is enough for care.

Attention: Do not rub too tightly and not too loosely.

By the way, you can also use hand peeling preventively. So even before you have dry hands. 1x per week is ideal to always have beautifully groomed hands.

With homemade cosmetics is the Durability always such a thing. But since you work with salt, the peeling is long lasting.

Nevertheless, it is better to mix hand scrub with coconut oil rather in small quantities and consume immediately. This is because the essential oils work best as long as they are highly concentrated. If too much oxygen comes to the peeling, the oils can lose their fragrance and effect.

Can I use sugar instead of salt if I want to make my own hand scrub?

Making your own hand scrub with coconut oil sounds like a good plan for you. But when you are fully motivated, you realize that you only have iodized table salt in your pantry. Neither sea salt nor Himalayan salt can be found. You don't have to put the project on hold now.

You can use sugar instead of salt for hand scrub. This speaks for it:

  • Gentle peeling: Sugar has a softer texture than salt, which means it is gentler on the skin. This makes it especially good for people with sensitive skin or anyone who has just had an injury on their hands.
  • Moisturizing: Sugar is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture from the environment and releases it to the skin. This can help hydrate your skin and keep it soft.
  • Uniform exfoliation: The particles in sugar are often smaller and rounder than those in salt, which allows for more even exfoliation and makes the skin smooth and supple.
  • Pleasant aroma and taste: Sugar can add a sweet scent and taste to your scrub, which can make the exfoliation experience more enjoyable.

However, there are some disadvantages to using sugar. Sugar dissolves more easily than salt, so a sugar scrub can go faster. Especially when it comes into contact with soft coconut oil.

Also, sugar can become sticky when it comes into contact with water. However, if you want to reap the benefits of sugar, be sure to mix your scrub just before using it.

What else you can do against dry hands

Dry and tense hands are anything but pleasant. They tear, start to bleed and simply feel anything but good. Not to mention the appearance.

In winter, many know this problem only too well. The dry air is hard on our skin.

You can do this in addition to the hand scrub:

  1. Regular application of a rich hand cream: In winter, the skin loses a lot of moisture. Use a hand cream rich in moisturizers such as Glycerin* or shea butter. Apply it several times a day, especially after washing your hands. Massage the cream thoroughly into your hands so that it is better absorbed into the skin.
  2. Avoid hot water and harsh detergents: Hot water and harsh soaps can dry out your skin. Try using warm water instead of hot when washing your hands. Use mild, fragrance-free soaps to avoid further irritating your skin. Wear gloves when cleaning or washing dishes to minimize contact with harsh detergents.
  3. Overnight intensive care: Before bedtime is the ideal time for intensive hand care. Apply a thick layer of hand cream and put on cotton gloves. This keeps the moisture in your hands and ensures that the cream can be absorbed deep into the skin. You'll notice noticeable improvements in the morning.

And as promised, here's the short version for DIY pros who regularly venture into do-it-yourself projects.

Our conclusion

With only 3 ingredients you can make a hand scrub with coconut oil yourself. If you like, you can use two different salts as in this tutorial and incorporate flowers. But that doesn't have to be the case. Even without Himalayan salt and Lavender flowers* the peeling works for the hands.

Namely, the main ingredients are coconut oil, salt and essential oil.
