Fewer wrinkles, fresher complexion and youthful glow just by facial massage? That's the new beauty trend this year. Gua Sha on the face is supposed to literally massage a glow into your face and mine. Today we explain everything you need to know about the beauty hype!

Massaging your face with a Gua Sha stone is one of the most hyped beauty trends ever.

Sure, we all love a fresh and radiant skin complexion! Many beauticians and stars swear by the beauty massage for the face.

Gua Sha means nothing to you? No problem, we'll explain to you where the massage technique comes from and what the term actually stands for.

Anti-aging creams or injections are supposed to be a thing of the past thanks to this stone. But can this really be? Can the Chinese massage technique really work?

How do you massage your face and why do you need a Gua Sha stone? Find out in our article about the Chinese miracle cure.

What is the Gua Sha massage?

Gua Sha is a rather old, Chinese massage technique, which is performed with a stone. Like many other beauty trends at the moment, this one has "swum over" from Asia to us in Europe.

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), massages with gemstones were performed thousands of years ago to keep the body in balance. In TCM, it is believed that a facial massage can rid your skin of toxins and tension.

Gua Sha on the face is one of the gentler massages.

However, the method is used in TCM not only to "make more beautiful", but also to solve health problems. The name of the massage already stands for this.

Gua stands for "scrape" and Sha for "acute diseases". The massage technique is to scrape away diseases, so to speak.

After the Korean face care, which is still highly trendy, so now gemstones are used.

What is the benefit of Gua Sha on the face?

So I'm sure you'll agree with me on one thing: a massage is always relaxing and super soothing!

But the Gua Sha massage can do much more than pure relaxation. Especially in the face you can often see our health and emotional state. We should therefore pay more attention to the face.

In TCM, the technique is used to stimulate blood circulation and lymph flow, to prevent diseases and to drain harmful substances. As a result, blackheads and other blemishes on the face are much less frequent.

Improved blood circulation makes your skin rosy and makes it glow. In addition, your skin can absorb other care substances much better.

The effectiveness of the Gua Sha massage on the face was even already in studies proven. It can reduce neck pain, scientists have found. How cool is that?

You have chronic back pain? Then massage your face with a Gua Sha stone. Relaxation, beauty treatment and no more back pain - yay!

The advantages of massage with the healing stone

Here again all the advantages of a facial massage with the gemstone at a glance:

  • Wrinkles are reduced
  • Pollutants/ toxins are discharged
  • Tensions are released
  • Lymph flow is stimulated
  • Blood circulation is activated
  • Clogged pores are freed
  • Contours of the face are emphasized
  • Elasticity is promoted

How to use Gua Sha on the face?

I can understand why you want to start massaging right now. And believe me, the Gua Sha technique is super easy to use.

You need a Gua Sha stone and a nourishing oil. The stone is called Bian Stone or also Handschmeichler stone. The stones are mostly flat and - very important - have round edges.

You can use different gemstones. It is important that the edges are rounded! Most stones are made of jade or rose quartz.

By the way, in the past, a typical porcelain soup spoon was used for Gua Sha massage on the face.

To really tell you something about the massage stone, I tested it myself. In the photos you can see the Rosental gemstone that I bought. If you are interested and don't have one yet, you can get one with the discount code GOWILD 30% to save on your order.

By the way, the code is valid for all products that Rosental has in its range. It's worth taking a quick look.

The preparations

Before you start, you should clean your face thoroughly. Unpainted and cleansed skin is important to avoid spreading dirt or bacteria during the massage.

The gem glides over the skin much better if you apply a nourishing oil. I would highly recommend it. For me it works best when I apply Almond oil* or Argan oil* apply.

If you want, you can easily create your own make your own cleansing oil for the face.

You should never do the Gua Sha massage on the face on dry skin!

You can do the facial massage in the morning and in the evening. However, it is most impressive in the morning. Let the freshness kick result convince you.

Now we finally get to the best part: this is how the massage goes!

Gua Sha experience

How does the traditional facial massage work?

The basic rule for the Gua Sha technique is: always from the inside to the outside. So you always put the stone in the middle of the face and then massaged outward.

Work with a gentle pressure. It should still feel good, but lead to some redness. Just listen to yourself and how your body feels.

Gua Sha on the forehead: On the forehead, the wide end of your stone looks best. This time, place it in the middle of the forehead. Then massage with light pressure to the temples and then upwards around the hairline. Super easy, see? :)

Gua Sha on the neck: Here it is different for once. You take the wide end of your gemstone again and start at the bottom of the neck. Then you stroke the gemstone very slowly up towards the chin.

Gua Sha on the eyes: Here, of course, you have little space. Therefore, use the tips of your gemstone. Place it in the inner corner of the eyelids or under your eyes. Then massage with light pressure in the direction of the temples.

Gua Sha on the cheek and chin: If you want to apply the Gua Sha massage to the face, take the larger inward curved side of your stone. Start at the chin and stroke the stone up to the hairline. Then in the second step, start at the mouth or nose and massage to your ears.

By the way, I like to put my rose quartz stone in the refrigerator overnight. Then swollen circles under the eyes can be massaged away super easily and quickly.

Important: If you have fresh injuries or acne, you should skip facial massage.

You get the best massage results if you massage yourself for five to ten minutes a day. For me, this is always a very short relaxation time in the morning before the stressful everyday life starts.

After the massage you have to clean your massage stone again. For the next Gua Sha massage on the face, the stone should be clean again. If dirt is deposited on the stone, this can quickly lead to impurities.

What gemstone can I use for facial massage?

The most common stones used in Gua Sha are jade, obsidian and rose quartz. In TCM, the stones are each attributed different healing effects.

Jade: According to TCM, jade has anti-inflammatory, cleansing and decongestant effects. We would recommend this gemstone especially for blemished skin.

Obsidian: The intense black stone is said to be very powerful and have an intense effect on the body. In particular, the obsidian should release blockages and tensions and strengthen your connective tissue.

Rose Quartz: This stone is particularly suitable for sensitive, irritated and irritated skin. Rose quartz is said to have a stimulating and naturally cooling effect. In addition, this gemstone stands for harmony. He should be able to reduce stress and tension.

Gua Sha application

Which is better Gua Sha or Jaderoller?

You probably also know the Jaderoller. It was one of the top beauty tools before the Gua Sha stone. Also with the roller you use a gemstone for the facial massage.

Which method is better? Are there big differences?

To be honest, there are no major differences. But it's the small differences that make the difference in the end.

The bottom line is that the jade roller is easier to use. Especially for beginners in terms of facial massage, it is a simple introduction.

During the Gua Sha massage on the face you have to regulate the pressure independently. You need to try a little and find just the right strength for you.

Personally, I find that technology can be "learned" in the blink of an eye.

The great advantage of a facial massage ala Gua Sha is: You can really reach all pressure points on the face.

The Jaderolle quickly reaches its limits during more intensive massage sessions. If you really want to massage all the points on your face, you should try a Gua Sha stone.

Our conclusion

I love Gua Sha on my face and have been using it regularly for a few weeks. It has really improved my complexion! You should definitely try it out too. Grab your gemstone, your favorite oil and massage the glow into your face.

Have fun trying it out!
