Wisdom teeth removal is imminent. Panic, fear, excitement. I don't like dentists, but I guess I have to go through it. The tooth surgery is really that bad.

I successfully put it off for 4 years. At some point, the tooth caused such problems that the wisdom teeth removal became inevitable. That was a week ago. And I have to say: The tooth surgery is not as bad as you imagine. :)

It's Monday morning. Exactly 48 hours until my first dental surgery. An uneasy feeling is spreading through me. It's a mixture of excitement, fear and somehow also joy that the wisdom teeth removal will soon be over.

I'm especially afraid of the syringe - it may sound funny. But I've never had a syringe in my mouth before. A cold shiver runs down my spine.

Just don't think about it - that's the motto for the next 2 days.

Remove wisdom teeth - Now is the time

And then there it is: Wednesday morning. The alarm clock rings at 6 a.m. Now it's time to eat as much as possible. The first days after wisdom teeth removal are not supposed to be a culinary highlight. So I stuff myself with everything that has any room.

Then off to the bathroom. The last time brushing teeth with wisdom tooth. A strange feeling. The toothbrush glides over the tooth one last time. Rinse. Look in the mirror again and quickly pack my things.

Of course, I'm so excited that I finish 15 minutes early. As if on pins and needles, I run up and down the living room. I check my handbag again. Time doesn't want to pass. I just have to think about removing my wisdom teeth.

Anyway, off to the car. Much less traffic than expected. That lets me get to the hospital very quickly. Oh, I'm the first one here. Great.

Now it's time to wait. My heart is pounding. An inner nervousness spreads. Well, there are only 10 minutes left until 7:45. Then I'll be rid of the tooth.

7:58 a.m. The waiting room is now packed. Children, older people, women, men - they all have one thing in common: the look on their faces says that they are at least as uncomfortable as I am. I wonder how many of them are about to have dental surgery? At least with 2 I dare to bet on wisdom teeth extraction.

8:20 a.m. Oh man, this can't be happening. Instead of being excited, I'm now just annoyed. 15 minutes later, the time has come.

My name is called. A dental assistant in full body disguise is already waiting for me and smiles at me. Then her hands disappear in gloves and her face behind the mouthguard that covers everything except her eyes. "Make yourself comfortable for now," she says to me, pointing to the chair. Very funny, I think to myself.

I take a deep breath and the dentist arrives. He also seems very sympathetic. He casually says to me: "Let's have two quick injections. My eyes get big, I would love to run away and postpone the wisdom teeth removal.

Take another deep breath. Open mouth. Close your eyes. And there's the first prick. Oh man, that's unpleasant. Right after that, there's the second injection.

And then everything is numb. My lips, my tongue, my cheek. Everything feels terribly swollen. I can't feel anything anymore. The dentist grabs his chair and rolls toward me. Someone must be looking forward to the tooth surgery. I'm not.

The assistant pushes a tube into my mouth. When I see the tool that the doctor is going to use to get to the tooth, I feel quite different.

What is the saying? Close your eyes and get through it.

I still can't feel anything, even though a huge chisel is stuck in my mouth. Tock, tock. I could do without the noise. And then there's a drill. Disgusting. I hope the wisdom teeth removal is over soon.

And indeed. A loud crack and everything is done. Now needle and thread. Three stitches are to be done. I'd better close my eyes again.

Done! And in just 5 minutes, including pulling, rinsing and sewing.

Survived tooth surgery. A load off my mind. The assistant hands me another cool bag and we make an appointment for the second tooth. Today it was the left one, next time the right one. It's time again in February. This time I can be more relaxed.

After removing wisdom teeth

Arrived at home, the couch a stylish coolbag in zebra pattern and a cozy blanket are already waiting for me. And that's all you need on the day of the dental surgery. I lost my appetite at the latest after the injections.

This is what you should prepare before the dental surgery

  • Two coolbags
  • A glass of water
  • Upholstery and blankets
  • A comfortable pants and cozy socks
  • Herbs for soup
  • Chamomile tea
  • Mouthwash without alcohol
  • Netflix :)

Only water on the first day. The injection works until 12 noon. Then the first painkiller. The best thing you can do after having your wisdom teeth removed: Sleep a lot. I change the cool bag every few hours. The cold is pleasant for the cheek and makes it numb.

The first night passes without a hitch. In the morning, however, I have a big hamster cheek. I can only open my mouth a little. Luckily, I've taken precautions with plenty of herbs. Soup, soup and more soup - but not too hot, better lukewarm!

Important: Brush teeth and rinse mouth after every meal

By the second day, I'm already bored. I start making birthday presents, taking photos, thinking up new articles for WE GO WILD and coming up with new dishes.

Always just Menu 1 (mashed potatoes) and Menu 2 (vegetable rice) is boring in the long run. But if you can't open your mouth wide, there's very little left.

Leek soup, chicken soup, pumpkin risotto, vegetable rice, mashed potatoes, very finely sliced bread with a spread, vegetable soup - my diet after the tooth operation remains manageable.

But if you constantly have a slight pressure on the tooth that is no longer there, you don't feel like conjuring up a big menu.

The hamster cheek subsides after 5 days. In two days the stitches will be pulled and then I'll have everything over. At least until February. Then the game starts all over again: wisdom teeth removal 2.0. This time on the left side.

My conclusion about wisdom teeth removal

I made myself much too crazy. I didn't feel the tooth surgery at all. In 15 minutes I was back in the waiting room. The worst part is waiting for everything to pass.

Think about a few simple tasks before the wisdom teeth removal. Otherwise, you'll probably get bored quickly. Because even Netflix gets monotonous after a while. After 5 days I move back to my workplace. Everything easy :) February can come!
