There are parts of the body that should simply look good: Hair, the face or even the fingers or our nails.

Unfortunately, we put them through a lot in the course of our daily lives. Painting, nail polish removers, gel nails, chewing and much more.

This is not good, because fingernails are unfortunately unforgiving. Therefore, they can unfortunately become ugly nails over time. I know this myself. My fingernails had to suffer for a long time under aggressive nail polish remover. And now I have the nail mess.

But with me now is not the visit to the nail salon on the to-do list! I now know really simple and effective tips that make the nails beautiful again.

You will see that your health also determines whether your nails are cracked and brittle.

Here come the 10 simplest tips for manicure and optimal nail care from home.

What are ugly nails?

If you suffer from it yourself, you probably already know what we're talking about.

I have always been very disturbed by my broken nails. In everyday life, glances so often fall on the hands and thus also on the fingernails.

So I needed a quick solution for my unsightly fingernails.

First of all, I'll explain to you what ugly nails are in the first place. :)

Brittle fingernails

You probably know the problem too? You have just filed your fingernail perfectly and then... it just breaks off! Really annoying and unsightly.

Brittle nails are often a sign of deficiencies in vitamins A, B and C. Calcium deficiency is also a known cause.
With me, however, the ugly nails came from painting. Because they also become brittle.

Often, fingernails also become brittle when you chew on them. You should look at the Biting fingernails necessarily get out of the habit!

White spots on the nails

If you have small white spots on your fingernails, you can see mini small cavities in the nail.
One often reads that it would be due to magnesium deficiency - but this is wrong.

White spots appear for example, if you push your cuticles back too much. Also, if you bump your nail, this can be a cause for these spots.

Cross grooves on the fingernails

The causes of transverse grooves on ugly nails are quite diverse.

They are often caused by strong filing or bad manicure. But also health problems of all kinds could be the reason for the grooves on your fingernails.

Among other things, extreme diets, mental illnesses or long-term medication lead to transverse grooves. And even if you have the flu, this blemish tends to appear.

Longitudinal grooves on the fingernails

The situation is different for grooves that run vertically across your nail.

Longitudinal grooves are often already genetically determined. They are simply there. Lack of fluids or worsened blood circulation in your body can also be a reason for longitudinal grooves.

There is also a whole range Foods that ensure that the nails harder and become healthier.

Yellowish fingernails

I would argue that discolored fingernails is the classic ugly nail.

With me it has caught a few weeks ago my toenails. Since I find it even worse to have ugly nails. But that was my own fault. What was the reason that the nails were yellow? I have black nail polish without a base coat so applied directly to the nail.

At the same time, this color does not fit my main type anyway. Since I know what colors suit meI no longer have this problem.

Important: If you have any health problems, you should always consult your doctor.

What can I do about ugly fingernails?

If you don't want to have ugly nails anymore, you should finally do something good for them. First and foremost, proper nail care is important!

Use a good nail oil or cream in the future. Massage the care products into the cuticles and spread the oil on your nail, for example. In the long run, the skin becomes much softer, more elastic and looks healthier. I like to use calendula ointment. :)

When you paint your fingernails, you must always use a base coat. This way you avoid the annoying discoloration of your nail.

Important: Both your nail polish and the remover should not contain acetone. This substance removes an extreme amount of moisture from your nail. Thus, nails become ugly, dry and brittle.

If you have very soft and brittle nails, you should pay attention to your vitamin intake. Make up for the deficiency and reach for vegetables and fruit more often.

There are even capsules that contain just the right nutrients you need for growing and strengthening nails.

Extreme radical diets are also a no-go - not only in nail care!

You should also drink enough so that your nails don't get ridges.

And nail hardener can also be a real helper for brittle nails.

You should also be very careful with your nails. That means: Avoid bumping them often and protect them from aggressive chemicals.

So when cleaning the gloves can be pulled over.

How to make my nails beautiful?

If you actively fight the causes of ugly nails now, you can do it yourself. A simple manicure at home is the magic word.

Here are the 10 simple tips against ugly nails

#1 Take a good file to work on your nails. It is better not to use a metal file, but one that is suitable for brittle nails (such as a glass file).

#2 Soak the cuticle. This way you can push them back very easily. You should never cut them off. That can go super fast in the eye.

#3 I would recommend that if you have ugly nails with grooves, fill them in. This is quite simple. First you polish the grooves away in the rough. Please be careful when doing this. Then you fill them with a specially made nail filler.

#4 If you want to paint your fingernails, you should apply a base coat.

#5 It is best to use a coarse nail file to shorten the nails. When cutting with scissors, nails often splinter. This is how they get broken.

#6 If you do not paint your nail completely, it will look longer. This visually narrows the finger.

#7 IMPORTANT: Always file in one direction only. The familiar back and forth movement ensures that your fingernails fray. So you have ugly nails in no time. And that's what we actually want to avoid.

#8 After filing, you can smooth the file edge with the polishing file. This helps especially well with splintering nails.

#9 Give your fingers and especially your nails a bath. A bath of jojoba and olive oil. This nourishes and protects your fingernails and makes your skin very soft.
I love it!

#10 Use the right nail polish colors for you. Light shades make the nail bigger, dark ones make it smaller. Try not to get too close to the nail bed when applying polish. And again, use base and top coat. This way you'll get the best results and won't cause ugly nails. Also, this is a great hack to make nail polish last longer.

How to turn yellow ugly nails white again?

If you have then but once dispensed with the base coat, your nail has become ugly and yellowish.

What can you do now? There are two fairly simple methods.

Either you get yourself a whitener/whitening varnish. This varnish balances out the yellow with a purple shimmer.

Or you can send your discolored, ugly nails to the bath. A simple lemon bath works really wonderfully for discolored nails. Just warm up some water and squeeze in half a lemon. Then purely with the hands and let soak a little.

By the way: With blue nails many athletes have to struggle with. From mountain athletes, to runners, to soccer players. However, these mostly occur on the foot and are quite a bit worse than yellow nails.
