You can make a lot of mistakes at the gym - not only on the equipment, but also when it comes to styling. These are the 7 biggest styling sins in the gym and tips on how to avoid them.

I love dressing up for sports or the gym. There are more sports clothes in my closet than 'normal' clothes.

There are just so many beautiful leggings, tops or shoes - and meanwhile (and to my huge joy) in almost all major fashion chains.

But you also have to be careful - some things that look great when you try them on in the store turn out to be mega embarrassing after an intense workout.

To make sure this doesn't happen to you, I've compiled the 7 biggest styling sins for sports and the gym - all of which I've done myself!

How the wrong hairstyle affects your workout

It's always one thing with hair during sports. The biggest styling sins are open hair or overly styled hairstyles like angel curls, elaborate styling or blow-dry hairstyles with tons of hairspray.

Firstly, it just looks weird and secondly, it could be dangerous for hair and scalp.

You could get your hair caught, which is quite painful, or constant friction could cause your Break off tips.

So it's best to get rid of the hair - get it out of your face, and if you have long hair, nothing else should be dangling around either.

There are a variety of ways to do this - pin back your bangs, simply tie your hair up, make a chignon or braid it instead?

Sport hairstyles can look really cute - I like them very much. However, I also don't feel like tweaking my hairstyle an hour before sports - so it should be fast go, hold perfectly and also look great.

And of course, nothing should be in the way! Therefore, we have a few tips for you here.

The solution

At the gym, doing yoga, on the mat & on the equipment.

This is where I noticed that a high bun works best.

It's never in the way, even when you put your head on the mat. Unless you do a headstand - even this hairstyle can't help there!

To do this, simply style the hair into a high knot and lightly tousle it with your fingers.

Spiral rubbers (preferably the transparent ones) are best for this. They hold very well, are flexible and gentle to the hair.

If you want to spice up the high bun a bit more, you can braid a strand or the bangs. You can also twist it in or hold it in check with a cute hair band.

When jogging, cycling and other

You have endless possibilities here. I always like to tie me for jogging a high ponytail - i love it when it bounces from side to side while running, kinda motivating :)

The latest boxer braids or a loose pin-up hairstyle are also great here - after all, unless you trip, you'll never have to lie on the back of your head.

How to prevent inappropriate sweat stains

Sweating is great and necessary to cool your body. It's also absolutely normal to sweat while exercising - some hardly do, others almost drip.

You shouldn't be embarrassed either, after all, it also shows that you're making an effort.

So it can also happen that sweat stains form on your sports clothes. Actually, not so bad, but there is one place that is really embarrassing - for me at least: between the legs.

Yes women sweat there, of course, just like other parts of the body. But no one needs to see that - in the form of a wet spot in the crotch. If you bend over, you might get some strange looks.

The solution

The main thing I look for in my sportswear is that the fabric is quick-drying.

That's already half the battle. In addition, I think about tight sports tights especially on the colors - jet black is best here. You can't see a thing! Also wild patterns distract and sweat stains in the crotch are covered up.

Especially bad and therefore not recommended are in my experience gray and rich, bright colors like bright red or grass green.

Many sports companies have probably also noticed this problem and produce colorful tights that are black or dark in the crotch - then nothing can go wrong!

When it comes to outerwear, I look for loose cuts - you can wear light or gray sports tops there and you won't see any sweat stains, even if you're pretty sweaty - I promise!

Why too much make up is very bad for training

Makeup is great, it hides flaws and emphasizes your assets. But for God's sake, don't wear too much makeup while exercising! It has only disadvantages.

When you exercise, you naturally sweat - whether it's just a light film or torrents. Together with makeup, your sweat combines to form a thick, air-impermeable gloop on which an extremely large number of bacteria form.

This is the ideal breeding ground for pimples and blackheads.

Even though you may look good during sports, you have to live with the consequences in the form of blemishes and irritation for days afterwards.

Make mascara yourself

Also, bright red lipstick, thick eyeliner and a centimeter thick layer of makeup, perhaps with red blush in a gym or jogging look very strange.

When you sweat, your face dries, mascara and lipstick end up everywhere. Pretty embarrassing. And anything but sexy.

The solution

Take off your makeup before working out. If you're going straight from work to the gym, take makeup remover wipes with you.

They are practical and you don't need water. If really necessary, use some tinted day cream, waterproof mascara and a shimmering chapstick.

Nothing can smudge and you look fresh and sporty instead of plastered. Plus, your skin can breathe and perform its natural functions - sweating to cool you down!

Why long fingernails are not a good idea

I'm not a fan of long claws either way. But with me they grow like weeds and I have to cut them at least 2x a week.

But there are worse things. Mega long artificial fingernails during sports, for example.

I don't understand how you can do everyday tasks with these long things anyway. I couldn't even pick up a ballpoint pen with it. But I understand it even less when it comes to sports.

I really don't want to have to worry about my expensive nails while I'm sweating.

Besides, with it you can only bad dumbbells or hold handles. I've heard a hysterical cry at the gym a few times that yet another fingernail has disappeared.

In some sports, it is also simply impossible to play with long fingernails - climbing, for example.

The solution

Here too Naturalness announced. Short or half-long fingernails are absolutely okay and do not interfere with any activity. In addition, so also no nail can travel off or in, which is extremely annoying and painful.

Why too much skin has no place in training

As already mentioned, shirts should sit a little looser, so that sweat can not show on it so. However, it should also not be too loose, so that you can see everything.

Especially in summer, you see many men and women in very revealing clothing. Some have no top on at all or only a sports bra - completely shirtless.

The breasts look as if they want to force their way out. In addition, a skimpy pants, where you can see half the cheeks of the butt - and the attention is certain to you. However, not quite in the positive sense.

The solution

The gym is not a beach. So make sure you're dressed appropriately here. After all, you shouldn't be able to see your panties (or worse) during a forward bend. Also a too large cutout is taboo.

You can wear loose clothing, of course, but please make sure you have the right amount of skin showing. Would you step in front of your in-laws like that? No? Then don't wear it to the gym either.

Why street shoes are a styling sin at the gym

You love your running shoes? The ones you use to tackle really challenging trails in the dirt? You also want to wear them to the gym?

No, don't.

Dirty running shoes or street shoes really have no place in the gym. With these shoes you stand on the equipment, do gymnastics on the mat or walk over places where other athletes may be doing floor exercises.

autumn running

Neither the owner of the gym nor other visitors will be happy with you. Disgusted looks or even a reprimand from the studio are certain.

The solution

Invest in own shoes for the studio or indoor sports. You never have to clean them and they don't wear out as quickly. Since you're unlikely to run a high-performance marathon in the gym, they also need to be not at all especially expensive be

Very simple sneakers from the shoe wholesale market are also enough here and are available from 20 € in all possible colors. I myself also have such a cheap variant, which I like visually and functionally very well and do not miss any comfort.

Why too much jewelry should stay at home

Large Necklaces, many Bangles or opulent rings are very fashionable at the moment - but not for sports. Dangling necklaces and bracelets up to the elbow are absolutely taboo and look Very unathletic off.

Nevertheless, many wear it - but it also has some dangers. For one thing, the jewelry wears out much faster or could even break under stress.

On the other hand, you could also hurt yourself - that's happened to me. When I forgot to take off my long necklace, it was my undoing during a cardio workout.

During an energetic burpee, the chain hit my teeth with a big swing in such a way that a small corner on my front tooth broke off. So better not imitate!

The solution

It's simple - take off all jewelry before every workout. You can leave piercings and earrings inside (unless you're a boxer or similar), that won't really bother you. But the rest you better stow away safely in your locker.

My conclusion

Yes, you can do a lot of things wrong in the gym or at a sports class. But if you follow our 7 rules, you're already on the safe side.

In summary, we can say - less is more. Just as natural as possible, if you want to stand out, do it with your athletic performance and a funky sports outfit that is really meant for sports!
