Make your own tea bags: step by step instructions

With our tutorial on how to make your own tea bags, you don't have to sew or glue.

So the bags are really no witchcraft and yet they look adorable. We show you in this tutorial, how it works exactly.

Step 1: Cut fabric

Before you start crafting, you should wash the fabric first.

Once the fabric is washed and dry, iron it. Then spread it out in front of you. Then place the bowl on the fabric and trace it with the pencil.

The circles should have a diameter of 15-20 cm.

If you don't have a suitable bowl, you can also draw the circles on the fabric with a compass.

Now cut them out.

Step 2: Fill bag with tea

Now comes the tea mixture. Place it in the center of the circle of fabric. Make sure that you do not use too much tea. 2 grams of tea should be enough.

And if the tea bag is already homemade, then the tea blend can also be put together yourself, right?

Melissa, lavender and St. John's wort are excellent for a relaxing tea. Elderflower, Lime blossoms*thyme and fennel work really well against colds.

With nettle you can purify and peppermint helps against stomach problems.

But you can of course also use purchased loose tea. Especially good is a alkaline herbal tea blend*, you can't go wrong with any gift recipient :)

Step 3: Seal tea bag

Now gather up the edges to form a small pouch. Tie the fabric tightly at the top with a string.

Be sure to leave the string a little longer on one side. The bag will hang from this when you put it in the cup and take it out again.

Finally, you can decorate or label your tea bag a bit.

If you want, you can attach a paper star to the end of the string. For this you need to cut out two identical stars. Between the two stars you put the string and then fix them with a little glue.

To prevent the string from slipping into the cup, you can also weigh it down with a button or something similar. Knot it well.

How to make tea with your own bag

Would you have thought that making your own tea bags is so easy? You don't even need much material. In no time at all, you'll have made individual tea bags that make wonderful gifts.

Once the tea bag is ready, you can already brew a tea.

As with the usual tea bag, pour about 250 ml of boiling water over it. Now let it steep. The infusion time depends on which tea you have chosen.

For herbal tea, it is about 10 minutes. With green or black tea, the brewing time is much shorter. Here it is about two to five minutes.

When the infusion time is over, take the bag out of the water and place it on a plate. By the way, many teas can be brewed twice.

How to wash the bags properly

The good thing about DIY tea bags is that you can use them several times.

If you always choose the same type of tea, it is enough to rinse your tea bag under running water after use and hang it up to dry.

If you want to fill it with another kind or if it is colored, soak it in lemon juice for a few minutes. Then wash it with soap.

Attention: The soap should have natural ingredients! After all, you drink the tea and here chemical additives have no place.

It is best to use several tea bags. One for each type. This makes cleaning as easy as possible.

In between, the bags can also go into the washing machine. For this, however, you have to put the small pieces of fabric into a laundry bag. After the washing machine, rinse them again with cold water.
