Is body butter good for the skin?

Body butter is a real all-rounder for our skin. It provides us with moisture, fragrance and very many nutrients. Body butter an extremely rich care, which is made on the basis of oils and fats and well tolerated by all skin types.

It is the perfect choice for your skincare routine if you are prone to rough, flaky, dry and itchy skin.

Can you take body butter for the face?

It all depends on the skin type. But in general, we do not recommend using body butter for the face. It is so rich that it can cause blemished skin. The high fat content of Coconut oil* can promote the formation of blackheads. For the Facial care other oils are more suitable.

What ingredients do I need for DIY body butter?

You only need a few ingredients, which you as a DIY fan probably even have at home. To get rid of dry skin, you do not need a cream with 10 or even 15 ingredients. Already 3-4 and these for it exactly on your problem co-ordinated are completely sufficient.

Shea butter for dry skin

If you are prone to dry skin, you should Shea butter* at home. It is a real secret weapon when it comes to soothing dry and flaky skin.

Shea butter* is the most effective vegetable fat for dry skin, but can be used by all skin types. You will find a lot of vitamin E in butter, which has already proven its worth in skin care.

Is the Shea butter* Once absorbed into the skin, it leaves a protective layer and is even said to contribute to cell regeneration. If you like the scent of Shea butter* don't like them so much, you can simply replace them with Cocoa butter* replace.

Coconut oil for skin care

For me there is hardly a better fragrance than Coconut oil*. That's why you can't do without it when making your own body butter. Coconut oil* melts at room temperature.

This is the reason that DIY Body Butter is better off in the refrigerator. This vegetable oil ensures that our cream spreads well on the skin and becomes soft.

In addition Coconut oil* has an antibacterial effect, which means it can fight inflammation. And it provides a large portion of moisture.

Almond oil for soft skin

If you want to make your own creams and body butters on a regular basis, be sure to use Almond oil* at home. The oil improves the elasticity of the skin. It is particularly skin-friendly and can therefore also be used for babies and children.

Almond oil* has a moisturizing effect and makes the skin soft and smooth. Wonderful for elbows, knees and shins.

Cold-pressed oil contains acids that penetrate into deep layers of the skin. Thus, linoleic acid protects against solar radiation and palmitic acid maintains the acid mantle of the skin.

Fragrance and color for your DIY natural cosmetics

To keep things from getting boring, you can add scent to your body butter with essential oils. I take for this Rose oil* because it complements the pink color so well. But you can use any oil in the world. Just make sure that the essential oil is suitable for the skin.

But also Food coloring* or powder make your cream something very special. A packet of beet powder or spirulina never hurts. You can use it for baking and cooking as well as natural cosmetics. I bought it online and have been using it for almost a year because it is so economical.

With colors, however, you must be very sparing, because otherwise, of course, the skin also stains!

For those who want it very special, you can even get a little Glitter* stir in. This will give your body an extra dose of glamor. Homemade body butter is also a great gift for birthdays, Christmas and any other occasion where you want to give a little something as a present.

Body butter for dry skin

How can I make body butter myself?

Now that you know what ingredients you need and how they work, we can get started. Here we go! Here you will find a whole detailed step-by-step guide. It is intended for all those who have little experience with natural cosmetics.

If you regularly make creams, lotions and the like, you will find a short version of the instructions at the end of the article.

Ingredients

Also: scales, a larger and a smaller pot, bowl, mixer, spoon, jar with a tight lid, piping bag.

Instruction

Put on water bath

Fill the larger pot about halfway with water. Bring the water to a boil.

Meanwhile weigh coconut oil and Almond oil* and put them in the smaller pot.

Weigh the shea butter, chop it and put it in a small bowl.

Melt ingredients

Place the smaller pot in the large pot and stir gently until the coconut oil has dissolved.

Once this happens, add the shea butter. Stir well again. Pour the mix into a bowl - I use my plastic salad bowl. Put the bowl in the refrigerator, where it now rests for an hour.

During this time, the ingredients become solid again and combine with each other.

TipIf you are short on time, you can put the liquid mixture in the freezer instead of the refrigerator. But it is important that you put a foil on the bowl, otherwise the freezer will start to defrost and the water will drip into your Body Butter.

20 minutes in the freezer = 1 hour in the refrigerator.

You have the optimum consistency for whipping when you can just barely press a depression into the surface of the mix with your fingertip.

Whip body butter

Now we turn the mixture into a fluffy body butter.

Whip the cream until stiff - use a mixer for this. Beat for 30 seconds on low speed and then stir for one minute on the highest speed.

If you would like to make a fragrant body butter yourself, now add the essential oils. Stir well again and then divide the mass into two parts.

Color one part with a little beet powder. However, use very little for this - the powder dyes very intensively!

Fill body butter

Now spoon the white part of the body butter into a piping bag. I use disposable piping bags because the cream is very rich and hard to remove from reusable bags.

Pour the white layer into the glass first, then the pink layer.

Those who wish can finish with a little Glitter* add.

How to use homemade body butter correctly?

Body butter is best applied directly after showering or bathing. Because then the pores are open and the skin can best absorb the nutrients from the body butter. Pat yourself dry after showering and then apply the butter directly.

The body butter leaves an oily film, but it absorbs quickly. While it's doing that, you can treat yourself to a facial scrub, shape your eyebrows or make your nails beautiful. Only then should you get dressed. This will prevent your clothes from getting greasy.

How and where to store DIY Body Butter

Self-made is the body butter in no time. But now it's about the right storage. Unlike conventional cosmetic products, you should not store DIY variants in the bathroom. The temperature and humidity are too high.

After making body butter yourself, the jars therefore immediately end up in the refrigerator. There they keep without problems even up to a year.

If you forget it in the apartment and it starts to become liquid. Just put it back in the fridge and then whip it up again. You won't notice any difference.

And here, as promised, the short version of the instructions for all those who regularly make natural cosmetics.
