Which essential oils have a relaxing effect?

If you have already found a favorite relaxing oil, you can use it to make your pillow spray. If you haven't found the right oil yet, we'll help you out a little.

These essential oils have a relaxing and sleep-inducing effect and are ideal for making your own pillow spray:

  • Vanilla - has a calming effect and helps against stress and inner restlessness
  • Chamomile - has an anxiety-relieving and mood-lifting effect
  • Orange blossom - has a strengthening and calming effect
  • Lavender - promotes sleep and relaxes
  • Tangerine - has a calming and anxiety-relieving effect
  • Rose geranium - is balancing and uplifting
  • Marjoram - combats insomnia and nervousness
  • Hops - Provides better sleep and relieves anxiety
  • Swiss stone pine oil - Has a relaxing effect and lifts the mood
  • Benzoin - helps to become more relaxed and switch off

Depending on your preference, you can use a single oil or a mixture of several oils for your personal pillow spray. However, I recommend that you do not combine more than two different types - and if you do, then use only very little of the individual oils.

Head off - dreams on. Here comes the DIY sleep spray you've been looking for!

How can I make a pillow spray myself?

To make your own sleep spray, all you need are a few ingredients and touches. This pillow spray is guaranteed to work:

  • 60 ml distilled water
  • 40 ml high-proof alcohol (such as vodka or spirit of wine)
  • 30 drops essential oil

Also: 120 ml spray bottle, scale or measuring cup, funnel, label.

Using a funnel, fill the distilled water and vodka into the empty spray bottle.

Now add the essential oil. Close the bottle tightly and shake vigorously.

Done! Do not forget to shake the bottle before each use.

How do I use the relaxation spray correctly?

Such a pillow spray is quickly homemade. You simply take the small spray bottle, mix the ingredients together and in the evening, a few minutes before going to bed, you spray your pillow with it.

Just 5 sprays are enough to be more relaxed.

Alternatively, you can spray a cloth with it and place it near your head.

Breathe deeply and enjoy the calming effect of the scented oils.

Which essential oils you use is entirely up to you. I opted for vanilla and lavender. The mixture is perfect. You feel really relaxed right away.

But everyone feels scents differently, experiment best yourself and find the right blend for you.

With a homemade label, the pillow spray looks really pretty and is super suitable as a gift for a stressed girlfriend.

Tip: Sleep aid

If you still can't fall asleep, the snuutje sleep aid may be the solution. Here, light and sounds help you to slumber deeply.

The gadget is especially good for me in stressful times or when I'm very agitated inside and can't turn off the head carousel. So when I constantly have to think about something and my head just does not come to rest.

You can choose from 6 sounds and select 3 timers. If you want, you can listen to the sound of the sea, rain or wind for 30 minutes. This is wonderful to get rid of the constant thoughts of any things.

You concentrate all around on the sound of the sea and then fall asleep. I love the sound of rain :)

Or you can choose the light metronome function and breathe to the rhythm of the light that appears on the ceiling. Because the device works on battery power, you can take it with you on vacation or use it where there is no electricity.

What do I have to consider when making sleep-good spray for children?

Not only we adults suffer from sleep problems, even children can be affected. However, you must always be a little careful with essential oils for children. Not all oils are suitable for children. Especially toddlers and babies are very sensitive to the scents.

For toddlers and babies, we recommend hanging a lavender sachet near the bed rather than reaching for highly concentrated oils.

For somewhat older children, you should use mild oils for the relaxing pillow spray - such as chamomile, tangerine or lemon balm. Lavender is definitely too intense here. Reduce the alcohol content by half, or omit the alcohol altogether (beware - the shelf life decreases rapidly!).

Those who take less alcohol Sterilize bottles and be sure to use distilled water. This will reduce the germ load.

Children sleep good spray

  • 30 ml odorless alcohol
  • 70 ml distilled water
  • 8 drops chamomile oil
  • 8 drops tangerine oil

Pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle. Screw it well and then shake it through. Done!

If your child suffers from nightmares, then you can use the sleep spray as an anti-monster spray. Spray together before going to bed under the closet, in corners under the bed.
