What ingredients do I need to make aloe vera cream myself?

For this quick and easy body cream you need no more than 4 ingredients. If you want, you can even limit the instructions to 3 ingredients and omit the essential oil.

Aloe vera

The aloe vera plant is perfect for skin care - not only for pimples. The Aloe vera gel* moisturizes the skin without clogging the pores - which is why it is used particularly often for blemished skin.

In addition, it provides a pleasant freshness kick and cools the skin after sunbathing or for a sunburn. In winter, you can use it to get rid of dry skin on the shins. Aloe vera does not leave a sticky layer on the skin, because the gel is absorbed very quickly. In short, I really like to use the gel for all kinds of skin problems.

In total, there are about 250 different species. The plant originated in the Arabian region, but now grows worldwide - indoors or outdoors, depending on the climate.

In its fleshy leaves, the plant collects water, you can quickly notice this when you look at the ingredients. The plant consists of98% water, in addition you can find in it 200 different ingredients, such as:

  • Enzymes
  • Amino acids
  • Saponins
  • Minerals
  • Vitamins (especially A, B, C and E)
  • secondary plant substances such as carotenes

The main active ingredient for our skin is called glycosaminoglycan - today it is usually referred to as aloverose.

Why is aloe vera so good for the skin?

There are very many good reasons Aloe vera gel* and creams for the face, legs, arms and more. It has a particularly moisturizing effect on the skin, but it can do even more. Aloe vera effect:

  • Anti-inflammatory: Optimal preventive against pimples, abscesses and inflammatory processes of the skin. Attention: do not apply to open wounds!
  • Antibacterial: existing skin redness and pimples are alleviated and cleared more quickly.
  • Metabolism stimulation: Aloe vera promotes cell division and helps the skin to regenerate quickly.
  • Moisturizing: a good remedy for dry and flaky skin - from head to toe.

Milk in aloe vera cream

Now in a classic DIY cream you would add some form of vegetable oil. Most often it is Coconut oil*, Shea butter* or Cocoa butter*. But not today.

Because instead of pure vegetable oil I have come up with something very special. I take namely simply a fatty milk.

Milk is also known to nourish the skin. Even Cleopatra knew that.

It is important that you do not use skim milk, half-fat milk or similar. Because it won't work with that. To Aloe vera cream make yourself with milk you need at least the 3,5 % fatty milk.

Vegetable oil in the cream

However, I do not completely do without vegetable oils. That would also not be possible, because for the milk to whip creamy, a vegetable oil must help.

I have chosen Almond oil* was chosen. It has a pleasant fragrance, is almost colorless and is known to gently care for dry and stressed skin in particular.

You can use any vegetable oil. Rapeseed oil, Grape seed oil*, Jojoba oil* - it works with all types. The only important thing is that it is a liquid oil - that's why Shea butter* and co. are unsuitable.

The advantage of these ingredients is that you can use the aloe vera cream for the whole body. Especially when your skin is red from a sunburn or is just really dry.

Fragrance for the cream

It may already be a little fragrance. Aloe vera, milk and vegetable oil are very neutral in terms of scent. With essential oils, however, you have to be very sparing. It is better to use too little than too much. If you use too much, you risk that the skin reacts with redness and itching.

If you have very sensitive skin or even sunburn, you should completely avoid scented oils.

The Aloe vera gel* I mix it with lemongrass. The ethereal scent gives the cream a special fragrance that is invigorating and refreshing, so I add it to the cream when I apply it. Make aloe vera cream yourself into the recipe.

If you want to make a soothing aloe cream yourself and use it for the face, instead of lemongrass use Tea tree oil*. Tea tree oil* has an antibacterial effect and thus prevents spots and skin impurities.

Aloe Vera Cream: Instructions

Are you ready? Let's get started! I'll show you how to make your own aloe vera cream. At this point you will find detailed step-by-step instructions. It is intended for those who have never made a cream themselves or have little experience with natural cosmetics.

Anyone who has often made their own cream and knows the basics will find a short version of the recipe below.

Products you need for the aloe vera cream

So, now let's start the project. Put all the utensils aside and then we can start.

Ingredients:

  • 50 gram Aloe vera gel*
  • 100 ml of milk at least 3.5 % fat content and room temperature.
  • 250 g Almond oil*
  • 5-10 drops essential oil

Also: powerful Blender*high mixing bowl, Cream jar*.

1. make aloe vera gel

The base for our moisturizing cream is a homemade aloe vera gel. Sounds incredibly complicated? But it is not :)

Tip: You can also apply Aloe Vera Gel pure to the sunburn.

It refreshes the skin incredibly pleasant and gives it moisture. How easy it is to make the gel from aloe vera will amaze you.

Aloe Vera Gel DIY

Before you start making your own aloe vera cream, you first need to know the Prepare plant. To do this, cut off three large leaves at the end of the plant.

Now yellow juice should come out. That do NOT need for homemade aloe vera cream.

To get the gel, you must now leave the leaves cut side down for 10-15 minutes. This allows the yellow sauce to drain out.

While this is happening, you can start making aloe vera cream.

Alternatively, you can also buy aloe vera gel. However, make sure that no additives are contained.

2. whip the gel

Put the gel in a small bowl. I use a drinking glass.

Whip the gel with a hand blender for one minute. It should now be really nice and creamy. If you look closely, you can see small air bubbles. If not, continue beating briefly.

Set the gel aside.

3. whip the milk with oil

I know we've had this topic several times before. But I have to mention it again.

You need a fat milk with at least 3.5 % fat content.

The milk must also be room temperature, otherwise it will not work.

Pour the milk into a tall mixing bowl. I like to use for this the vessel that comes with my Blender* was supplied.

Start the hand blender. Add the Almond oil* to the milk drop by drop and stir constantly. The process takes 5 minutes, take this time, otherwise it won't work.

Once you've added all the oil to the milk, you should notice that it thickens and takes on a creamy consistency.

If it doesn't, you'll need to keep stirring. It can often take a little longer for the milk and oil to mix.

4. fold in the aloe vera gel

Put the hand blender aside. Now you need to use your fingertip.

Gently stir in the gel with a spoon. Please in no case with the hand blender - then it will not work with the consistency.

Add the essential oil of your choice. Then you are ready. Now you only need one thing: patience.

5. put the cream in the refrigerator

Fill the cream into a jar and close it. Now put the aloe vera cream in the refrigerator. Let it rest for at least 12 hours. Much better is 24 hours.

The cream now takes on a firmer consistency and is somewhat reminiscent of pudding.

But what you need to know: it won't be as solid as a store-bought cream.

Here I'll tell you how to Make your own liquid soap in 5 minutes can!

Help, my cream does not set - what can I do?

First of all, you need to be patient. And work slowly. It is very important that you add the oil drop by drop. The oil should also be at room temperature.

The secret of this aloe vera cream consists of two parts

  1. The temperature of the ingredients
  2. The slow pouring of the oil

Beware of processing too quickly

It takes time to get a feel for how to make an aloe vera cream - especially as a natural cosmetics beginner, you're often just too impatient. If you want to mix your own aloe vera lotion, you also need some practice and should allow time for it.

It is necessary to add the oil to the milk drop by drop. It makes no sense to add everything at once into the mixing vessel and expect the cream to solidify. This will not happen! Adding too quickly will only cause the aloe vera cream to remain liquid.

When you have stirred in all the oil, the cream will start to thicken. It should now be like a freshly cooked soft pudding. Then carefully fold in the aloe vera gel - not with the mixer!

The optimal temperature of the ingredients

The components must be at the correct temperature. Both the milk and oil and the gel should be at room temperature. If you are not sure, you can check the temperatures with a thermometer. Ingredients that are too cold will not mix properly and therefore will not be firm enough.

Therefore, the aloe vera cream remains liquid. Remove the milk from the refrigerator about an hour before preparation. Measure the necessary amount and let it warm up slowly. Then you will have the greatest success.

After making the DIY cream goes directly into the refrigerator, where it can still solidify overnight.

How can I preserve homemade aloe vera cream?

To keep the natural cosmetics for a long time, it is best to store them in the refrigerator. Since milk goes into the cream, it is of course not infinitely durable. But that is also a good sign. Because preservatives and preservatives you will not find in these instructions.

ImportantThe cream should be stored in the refrigerator after each use. It will keep for about 7 days. If you keep it in the living room, the milk will turn sour - and so will the cream.

Longer shelf life is provided by shelf-stable milk. Normal whole milk is unsuitable when it comes to shelf life. If you make small quantities, you can of course use whole milk.

A reader asked me whether the aloe vera cream also succeeds with lactose-free milk. In a nutshell: Yes, of course. And that is if it has a high fat content. We need this to be able to whip the milk. It does not work with low-fat milk.

Especially in summer, it is better not to make too much aloe vera cream itself. It is worthwhile to make small quantities and use up the cream quickly. So you can be sure that it will not go bad.

Those who make larger quantities can use a little Vitamin E oil* help. For 50 grams of aloe vera gel you use about 8 curd Vitamin E oil*. The cream will keep for up to 2 months in the fridge.

Make aloe vera cream

Which vegetable oils are particularly suitable for DIY creams?

When you start making natural cosmetics yourself, you'll notice that you can use a variety of oils for this purpose. The more natural and pure the oils are, the better it is for the skin.

Always make sure that the oils are cold-pressed, only they contain all the ingredients that are important for skin care. When heated, exactly these important components are lost from the plants.

Basically, all vegetable oils moisturize the skin, but each has other special ingredients that are suitable for different skin types.

With these vegetable oils you can make aloe vera cream yourself and this is how they act on the skin:

Almond oil

Almond oil* is one of the most vitamin-rich oils and contains more vitamin A than almost any other oil. It also contains large amounts of vitamins E, B1, B2 and B6. It is a very powerful antioxidant that also counteracts cell ageing.

Almond oil is suitable for all skin types and is also very well accepted by sensitive skin types. It is quickly absorbed by the skin and does not leave a greasy film.

That is why it is one of the absolute classics when it comes to natural cosmetics.

Olive oil

Olive oil is the most common ingredient in Aloe Vera lotion, as it is present in almost every household. It is a great oil that has been used for thousands of years for beauty purposes.

Olive oil slows down the aging process, promotes skin regeneration, eliminates new wrinkles and also makes minor wrinkles disappear. It is also an excellent moisturizer and helps nourish the skin.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba oil* is a wonderful moisturizer for people with sensitive skin. It has the advantage that it does not clog pores and moisturizes deep into the skin. It is also rich in nutrients, including vitamin E, which makes older skin look young again.

Argan oil

Argan oil* is an all-round talent when it comes to skin care. It has an anti-inflammatory effect and can help to reduce the appearance of scars. It also strengthens the skin's own barrier function and makes it more resistant to harmful environmental influences.

It is also said to have a positive effect on the hair and nails. Argan oil* is therefore ideal for people who want an all-in-one solution for skin, hair and nails. It is ideal for people with dry or very dry skin.

Macadamia oil

Macadamia nut oil is an excellent moisturizer for the face and has a regenerating effect on the skin. The oil is quickly absorbed by the skin and does not leave a greasy film.

Natural cosmetics with macadamia nut oil is therefore particularly popular in the summer, because it is light and easy to apply.

Coconut oil

Coconut oil* is not only antibacterial, but in combination with the other ingredients also contains substances that provide a real energy boost for the skin, such as fatty acids and minerals. Coconut oil* is an antioxidant and thus helps to prevent natural cell ageing.

I like to use it for hair treatments for dry tips and dry skin in general. It is even supposed to keep ticks away. I haven't used it in aloe vera cream yet. If you want to try it, be sure to heat it up first and make sure it's liquid. Otherwise, you'll have lumps in the cream.

If you keep the cream in the refrigerator, it is guaranteed to be firmer than with other vegetable oils.

And here, as promised, the short version of the cream instructions for all those who are already well versed in natural cosmetics:
