Your feet deserve a rich care. So you can make foot cream yourself and provide DIY foot balm for a moisture boost with a fresh scent!

Your feet feel worn out, heavy and dry? Then you should give them extra attention now.

Because no matter whether summer or winter - our feet simply get far too little love. They carry us through every day, no matter how long and exhausting it is. Now we put them in the spotlight.

With a homemade moisturizer, you can pamper your feet and legs and give them a wellness program at home.

But before you can put your legs up, it's time to make your own foot cream. This is really quite simple. In less than 10 minutes you are ready and the cream is also very quickly ready for use.

For extra tortured feet, here comes a tutorial for a very rich foot butter that does all-around good. The cream provides you from the tip of the toe to the heel with vegetable oils that penetrate deep into the skin and make the feet supple.

Incidentally, massaging the cream is a boon and also helps when you always have cold feet.

Why is it worth making your own foot cream?

Yes, you can buy foot butter, but you can also make it yourself from just 4 natural ingredients. Depending on your mood, add a few essential oils and that's it.

This DIY foot cream is really just about you melting high quality vegetable oils and mixing them together.

The oils are all-natural and come without preservatives, fragrances or dyes. And that's the best thing you can give your feet. Many store-bought creams contain chemicals that make our skin even drier or even clog our pores. Other products contain petroleum, which has no place on healthy skin.

Have you Coconut oil*, Shea butter* or Cocoa butter* Once you've bought them, they will last you a very long time. If you want to do the environment a favor, use larger quantities and ensure that less waste is produced. Making your own foot cream is also quite inexpensive. Much cheaper than bought products from the drugstore.

I always store the vegetable oils in the refrigerator. Here they easily last for a year without losing their effect.

If you want to do it yourself, you can always give your creams a personal touch. This works wonderfully with essential oils. Depending on what you and your feet feel like. Often lavender is used for relaxation or citrus scents for an invigorating feeling. But you can read about which scents are best for you here: "This effect have essential oils on body and mind

Or do you want to do a favor for a dear friend? Then you can choose her favorite scent.

Which essential oils are the best for foot butter?

While we are on the subject of fragrance. What should you rely on when making your own foot cream? Basically: Use high-quality essential oils - make sure they are of good quality. You can use any fragrance you like.

However, there are scents that your feet will be especially happy about. These oils are said to have special effects.

  • Citrus scent revitalizes tired feet and provides a freshness boost
  • Mint cools the feet when they glow again - especially in summer highly recommended!
  • Mountain pine oil provides good circulation - my favorite in winter against cold feet! It also loosens the muscles.
  • Tea tree oil* has a disinfectant effect and is used to treat inflammation. Fragrance takes some getting used to.
  • Lavender has a calming and relaxing effect on the entire body. Perfect if you apply the homemade foot cream before bedtime.

You can use one oil or combine several. But be careful - do not use too much of a good thing! Too many scents at the same time do not give a good smell. My recommendation is therefore: Use either one oil or a maximum of two oils.

What ingredients do I need if I want to make foot cream myself?

Let's take another look at the ingredients and especially their mode of action on the feet.

Cocoa butter*: It is ideal for dry skin areas and also chapped lips. The high content of antioxidants protects cells and helps them regenerate. Cocoa butter* provides the skin with plenty of moisture and lipids (fats).

Coconut oil*: Unlike Cocoa butter*, is Coconut oil* much smoother and is also easier to apply. A mix of these two high-quality vegetable oils is therefore ideal. Coconut oil* softens and moisturizes the skin and has anti-inflammatory/antibacterial properties.

Beeswax*: In natural cosmetics may Beeswax* should not be missing. It helps to moisturize the skin when it is dry and cracked. Beeswax* improves wound healing and makes the skin soft, smooth and beautiful. By the way: the vegan alternative to Beeswax* is berry wax. 10 g beeswax can be replaced by 12 g berry wax.

Almond oil*: Almond oil* provides the skin with a large amount of moisture and can penetrate the deepest into the skin of all vegetable oils. It therefore takes care of the particularly deep layers of the skin.

Essential oils and vitamin E can be added optionally. The fragrance oils only serve the smell. Vitamin E prolongs the shelf life of natural cosmetics. You can add it in liquid form or as a powder to creams, lotions and co. Must the Vitamin E oil* in the recipe? No, not necessarily. However, it is worth it because it is effective against damage to the skin.

Important preparations you need to make

If you've never worked with natural cosmetics before, here come a few principles to keep in mind.

Clean utensils: You must clean jars, spoons, jars and everything that comes into contact with the cream. Otherwise, mold can quickly form. I proceed in the same way with natural cosmetics as I do when making syrup, juices or jam.

I fill the Cream jar* with water and place it in the microwave for 3 minutes at full power. The water starts to boil and ensures that potential germs are killed. I boil the lid of the jar in a pot or kettle. You can find detailed instructions here: "How to sterilize jars and bottles correctly!

Have all the ingredients ready and line the work surface with paper towels or newspaper, just to be on the safe side.

After making foot cream itself, the jar must be allowed to cool properly. I even leave the cream for a day and use it only the next day. I have the feeling that the ingredients then mix better together and the cream smells better.

Make foot cream yourself - the tutorial

Once you've set all the ingredients aside and cleaned the jar you'll be pouring the cream into, you're ready to go! Here you will find very detailed instructions for the preparation. It is intended for all those who have never been in contact with natural cosmetics.

If you make creams, lotions, and body oils on a regular basis, you'll find a quick guide at the end of this post.

Ingredients:

Also: saucepan, jar with a large opening, wooden chopsticks, scales, Cream jar*

1. prepare water bath

Grab a saucepan and a jar with a large opening where you will melt the ingredients. I recommend a glass that is not too high, but wide. It's the best to stir in.

Pour water into the saucepan, enough so that the jar is about 2 cm high in the water.

Turn on the stove, take the jar out of the water and in the meantime fill the first ingredients.

2. melt ingredients

Cocoa butter melts the slowest. That's why we'll start with it right now. Cut the butter a bit small, so that it goes faster.

Put them in the jar and put the jar in the pot filled with water.

Melt the butter, stirring constantly. Once it starts to become liquid, you can add coconut oil and beeswax.

Melt the ingredients and don't forget to stir every now and then. Once they have combined into a homogeneous mass, you can mix the Almond oil* add.

3. add fragrance

If you wish, you can now stir in the fragrance oils and vitamin E. Important: use essential oils sparingly and mix well.

4. fill foot cream

Once all the ingredients are liquid, you can put them in the Cream jar* Decant. I take the pot off the stove and the jar out of the pot with baking gloves.

Fill the liquid mass into your Cream jar*. Finally, I place the empty jar in warm water again to liquefy the remains of the already solid mixture.

Now let the foot cream cool down and rest overnight. Do not close the jar! Once the cream is solid and cool, you can screw the lid on the jar.

My cream is too firm - what can I do?

Depending on whether you like it firmer or creamier, you can use more or less beeswax.

If you are not satisfied with the result, you can simply melt the cream again in a water bath and add more coconut oil or almond oil. Or beeswax, if you feel that the cream is too liquid.

However, before you decide that, you should always let them cool overnight.

What alternative oils can I use?

There are many very high-quality, vegetable oils that you can use for making skin creams. In addition to coconut oil, cocoa butter and almond oil, you can use these alternatives:

How do I properly apply the homemade foot cream?

Apply the cream, get into your shoes and off you go? Not a good idea. The homemade foot cream is very rich and therefore not so quickly absorbed. This foot butter needs time to soak in.

Foot butter always works best when it is massaged in well. And a foot massage is just always good, especially after long and stressful days and when the feet feel really knocked out.

If you ask nicely, maybe your partner will agree to a foot massage. The relaxation factor is of course even greater.

If you want to treat your feet to a real wellness treatment, first use a foot scrub, then a relaxing foot bath and then the cream. This allows the foot butter to be absorbed really well.

Use a DIY foot scrub to remove calluses and dead skin flakes. Look here: "5 wonderful foot scrubs to make yourself„.

The foot bath has the great advantage that it soaks the skin and makes it more receptive to care products. Then pat the feet dry and apply the cream immediately.

Best before bedtime

I rub the foot butter in right before I go to bed and then pull wool socks over my feet. This allows the foot cream to be absorbed. Since it consists of oils, it takes time until it is actually absorbed. It first forms a film on the surface of the skin before it starts to be absorbed after about 30 minutes.

I therefore advise you to put your feet up as long as possible, put on wool socks or put a towel underneath and let the cream do its job. Otherwise, the sofa, floor and carpet may get greased.

If you follow this program 1-2 times a week, you will soon be able to enjoy caressably soft skin.

By the way, the foot balm is great everywhere where the skin is dry and taut. For example, on the shins and elbows.

This is how you do it

  • Put a towel under it - the cream is very rich and is not absorbed immediately.
  • Take about half a teaspoon of cream with your index and middle finger.
  • Apply the foot butter with both hands. While doing so, stroke from the toes over the instep of the foot, to the sole, around the joint and back again.
  • Let your fingers also move between the toes and circle the heel with your thumb.
  • Massage the sole, the spaces between the balls of the toes with your thumbs from the bottom up and vice versa.
  • Pull very gently on each toe. Massage them with your thumb, index finger and middle finger.
  • Stretch and lengthen the toes, leg and foot.

Place the foot on the towel and move on to the next one. Finally, apply foot butter to both feet and let the cream soak in for about 10 minutes. Then slip into socks so as not to spread the remaining cream on the floor or sofa.
