Today beans end up in the cake!

Has she completely lost her marbles now? No, I have not :)

Even though it sounds bizarre, it's mega delicious. Beans are so much more than just an ingredient in a salad or chili con carne.

Beans can be turned into a dessert quite wonderfully. I must confess: I have never eaten such a good chocolate cake.

Kidney bean brownies are my latest discovery and will surely end up on the table at the next birthdays. Let's see who manages to guess what's in the cake :)

Kidney Beans Brownies Recipe

Why you should give these kidney bean brownies a chance

Craving cake but at the same time just want to give up unhealthy foods? These kidney bean brownies are just what you need.

They are free of all the bells and whistles. You don't even need flour for them.

Healthy through and through, super moist and more importantly, mega chocolaty.

The main ingredient - as the name suggests - is the kidney bean. Mixed with applesauce, it makes for an extra creamy batter that is very moist.

Thanks to the healthy ingredients, the cake comes to only a few calories. And those that it contains are not fatteners. They are high quality protein and good carbohydrates.

The cocoa will make you forget about the craving for sweets.

What I particularly like about this recipe is that you don't need a blender or anything like that to make it.

You don't have to separate and whip eggs, or pay attention to which ingredients go into the batter and when. Just mix together and stir.

Therefore, the preparation of kidney beans brownies takes only beaten 5 minutes.

The kidney beans brownies are

  • lactose free
  • gluten free
  • yeast-free
  • Packed with natural protein
  • free from table sugar
  • healthy and delicious

You can get the ingredients for the bean brownies at the supermarket or health food store. You can also order them from Amazon. I like to buy certain ingredients in larger quantities because it is cheaper.

For this recipe you need a powerful food processor*. Alternatively, you can try using a hand blender, but I can't guarantee whether this will work.

How do kidney bean brownies taste?

You know what beans taste like and now you're afraid your chocolate cake will turn out like bean salad?

Don't worry. You can't taste the kidney beans in the brownies. You just notice that the cake is extra moist and fluffy. You can't see, smell or taste anything from beans.

When you have prepared it, you can let friends and colleagues taste it. I am sure that not a single person will guess what the main ingredient is.

Taste take over cocoa, coffee, Birch sugar* and nuts are clearly the sceptre.

How to refine the bean cake

You're not quite convinced yet or want to experiment a bit more? No problem! Here are a few suggestions that will make the recipe even better.

Use instead of

  • Walnuts simply almonds, hazelnuts, Cashews* or another type of nut
  • Eggs even more applesauce, then the recipe is vegan. 60 grams of applesauce replace one egg.
  • Xucker chocolate drops* add even more chocolate to the recipe.
  • Use powdered sugar or coconut flakes for dressing - it looks really nice on the dark dough.
  • Coffee powder just more cocoa if you do not like coffee.
  • Vanilla a little Cinnamon*, if you like it more autumnal.

I could go on with the list for a very long time, but I think the kidney bean brownies allow for more than enough imagination, just try across the vegetable patch what you can think of. You can also add little apple pieces to the batter, or pear pieces.

This is how long the brownies can be kept

Yes, that is a very good question. We liked them so much that they were eaten up after two days. They should last three days no problem though. If you made too much, you can just freeze them.

Cut them into pieces for freezing and make sure they are cooled down. Then put them in a tin with a lid and put them in the freezer.

After defrosting, they still taste like freshly baked. Small tip: Heat them up very briefly in the microwave so that they become really fluffy again.

Our conclusion

Kidney bean brownies are simply the hammer. They taste super chocolaty, moist and at the same time this recipe does away with all the ingredients that make a conventional cake so unhealthy. No flour, no sugar, no butter. Just beans, eggs, applesauce and nuts. And it takes just a few minutes to make, too. That's how I like it! :)

Good luck and enjoy it!
