Why should I make dry shampoo myself?

In the supermarket it is filled in spray cans. Provided with additional fragrance and sold very expensive. From 3 to 40 euros, everything is there.

Purchased dry shampoo often contains propellant gases. The bathroom must be ventilated after use until the sometimes unpleasant odors have dissipated.

Packed is the Dry Shampoo in aluminum cans or plastic. But what is it actually for? We don't really know either. You probably have the ingredients for Dry Shampoo at home.

And Make dry shampoo yourself is as easy as pie! 100 % vegan, free from animal testing and organic :)

If you have very straight hair, like me, and braided hairstyles come off within minutes, then you can also massage a bit of the powder into the hair. It ensures that the mane becomes grippier and the hairstyle lasts longer.

How to make dry shampoo yourself?

The basis for homemade dry shampoo is a sebum-absorbing ingredient. It absorbs the excess grease in the hair and scalp. One uses for it Cornstarch*Potato starch, Healing earth*baby powder or flour.

You don't need more than one of these ingredients. In the supermarket, the products are then refined with fragrances. But that's all well and good, and it doesn't have to be.

In the DIY variant comes depending on the hair color still Cocoa powder* into the powder. As a result, no white patches are visible in the hair.

Fill your homemade dry shampoo in a jar with a lid. Close well so that it does not get wet and you're done.

For application, you can use your fingers or a large make-up brush. If you choose the brush, you even save brushing.

Note: Many take Baking powder* or Baking soda* as a basis. I advise against this. Both can irritate sensitive scalps in the long term and even damage the hair. That's why I leave it out of my recipe.

How many days can you use dry shampoo?

To keep your hair healthy, the scalp must be able to breathe. You should therefore use dry shampoo for a maximum of two days in a row. Under no circumstances should you apply it daily.

It is intended only as a bridge and does not replace shampooing.

If you use dry shampoo every day, you get dry and flaky scalp. Dead skin cells and bacteria remain on the scalp, the skin becomes stale and the hair is broken. That's why it's so important to wash your hair between uses.

How can I adapt Dry Shampoo to my hair type?

Do you have blonde hair? Then your shampoo will look a little different than for dark hair. After all, you don't want to see any of the powder in your mane. You can personalize your DIY with fragrances and oils. What is best suited for this, I'll show you now.

For light and dark hair

Those who have brown, brunette or black hair, mix a little cocoa into the powder. But please do not drink chocolate, but pure Cocoa powder*. This will make it light brown and you won't have to worry about white patches in your hair. Alternatively, you can also use brown Healing earth* take.

Light hair types do not need to add to dry shampoo. Simply distribute well with the brush or fingers. Possibly brush again briefly and the small white spots are gone.

Redheads take instead of the cocoa simply Cinnamon* and thus have neither light nor dark patches in the hair. It also smells Cinnamon* wonderful.

Fragrance for homemade dry shampoo

If you can't do without fragrance, you can add a little essential oil. But then you need to mix the powder very well with a mortar or bristle brush.

There are essential oils that have a positive effect on your scalp and hair. But beware: oils can have a corrosive effect. So you must really use very little.

If you are interested in Make dry shampoo yourself take a tablespoon of powder, you can use a maximum of 2-3 drops of essential oil.

These oils are good for hair

You should always test the oils on the arms first. Mix one drop of essential oil with one drop of vegetable oil. Spread it in the crook of your arm and see if your skin turns red or starts to itch. If so, it's better to leave the oil alone.

Make dry shampoo yourself - the ingredients in detail

Here come the ingredients you need to make it or alternatives you can use instead.

Make your own healing clay for dry shampoo

Healing earth* or clay, you can buy a lot from white to green to different shades of brown. White is the most neutral Healing earth*. For darker hair, simply mix a little Cinnamon* or cocoa - or you can use brown clay from home.

If you want to know exactly: this ingredient is a very fine, odorless rock powder made of loess, which was deposited during the ice age.

The healing clay can absorb liquids - such as excess fat or sebum. It also has antibacterial properties. Clay is suitable for both internal and external use. You can also use it to make face masks against impure skin.

Healing clay is a great substitute for dry shampoo. It applies quite well and absorbs scalp grease quite quickly.

Apply, knead, ready :) Wonderful!

Baby powder as a dry shampoo replacement

Almost even better than healing clay is Make dry shampoo yourself with baby powder. The powder can be applied and dosed very well even without a brush.

A plus point for the pleasant scent. And for the fact that it can be applied best of all four homemade dry shampoos.

The baby powder extracts fat from the scalp and hair. Those who find the scent of baby powder unpleasant, simply omit it and replace it with Cornstarch*.

Corn starch as dry shampoo

Instead of thickening a sauce, the Cornstarch* this time simply in the hair. Cornstarch* is very rich, so it is better to use too little than too much.

The white powder massages in very well and simply absorbs the greasy approaches. Super! Alternatively, you can also use potato starch.

If it has to go really fast, I just take a tablespoon of cornstarch and massage it into the scalp. This has saved many a bad hair day. Then bend upside down into the shower or bathtub and run your hands through your hair until the excess powder is gone.

Flour as a substitute for dry shampoo

Because not everyone has cornstarch, baby powder or clay at home - at least, flour can almost always be found in the pantry. Whether whole wheat flour or white flour is up to you. Whole wheat flour is good for darker hair types. White flour fits super to light blond or gray hair.

Like the other powders, flour can be used very well as a dry shampoo. Works smoothly and easily.

Our conclusion

The victory goes to.... *Drum roll* Make your own dry shampoo from healing clay. It absorbs grease best and soothes the scalp at the same time. Once purchased, you can also use it for face masks and digestion. Just great :)
