Fancy a sweet treat? Then try a delicious and at the same time healthy snack. You'll love this apple crumble with oatmeal! It's one of my absolute favorite fall recipes.

Sometimes you're overcome by a craving for sweets. It's good if you can satisfy it with something you won't regret later.

If your apple crumble contains oatmeal, it's not only delicious, but also healthy. The oatmeal will keep you full for a long time and you hardly need any sugar because the apples are sweet enough.

However, a little sugar goes into the recipe. Here we take Coconut blossom sugar*because it adds a delicious caramel note to the crumble and is much healthier than household sugar.

Sounds like a good plan, right? :)

In the morning, by the way, a cup of coffee goes wonderfully with the crumble. But also cocoa is mega delicious to the apple-Cinnamon*-flavor.

There is nothing better in the morning (and actually all day long) than juicy apple pieces with crumbles and Cinnamon*.

And if you have a few seconds, you should put the crumble in the microwave before eating. Soooooo incredibly delicious autumn can taste and smell.

But beware: the dish is healthy, but still contains a lot of calories. The butter drives the number of calories very much up. But tastes nevertheless - or just because of it :)

Oatmeal crumble without flour

What ingredients do I need for Apple Crumble?

Before we get right to the recipe, I want to give you an overview of the ingredients. I'll show you what you can substitute if you don't have it at home and what to look for in each ingredient.

Most recipes contain white flour, which is not very healthy. It settles quickly on the hips and no nutritional value for the body. It also makes you hungry again quickly.

So as often as possible, you should replace white flour with either whole wheat flour or even better: spelt flour or oats.

Apples

I like to use very tart varieties for the apple crumble. Sweetness gets the recipe with me through raisins and Coconut blossom sugar*. In principle, however, you can use any type of apple. If you use organic fruit, you don't have to peel it.

Cut out bruises on apples from the garden generously. In this recipe, you can also use fruit that is already shriveled and no longer attractive.

Instead of apples, you can also prepare the crumble with pears or plums.

By the way: Did you know, that applesauce is the perfect egg substitute?

Lemon juice and cinnamon

Those who use very sweet fruits, should take a little more lemon juice than someone who already processes tart fruits. Lemon juice provides the balance of sweetness and should not choose in any case. Of course, it tastes best with very fresh lemon juice.

Look at Cinnamon* look closely - a distinction is made between Cassia and Ceylon Cinnamon*. Ceylon has a much finer aroma and is said to be healthier. Whichever you choose, don't use too much. Because too much Cinnamon* ensures that dishes become bitter!

Coconut blossom sugar

Household sugar ends up in a classic crumble. I try to avoid it as much as possible and like to replace it with Coconut blossom sugar*. This brown sugar has a pleasant caramel note and contains magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and natural antioxidants.

It has a lower glycemic index and thus ensures that blood sugar levels do not rise as quickly, which can prevent cravings.

Who would like to Erythritol* or Birch sugar* instead of using it. For those who are watching their calories, I can recommend Recommend erythritol because it has 0 calories.

Raisins and nuts

Now before you make a face because you read "raisins" in the recipe: You can also omit them. But they make it even better - I think. If you want to give the dish a special touch, soak the raisins in rum for one to two hours.

When it comes to nuts, I take what the store cupboard has to offer. Walnuts are the most aromatic, followed by hazelnuts. But pecans or almonds also do well in apple crumble. I add nuts to the recipe because it gives the crumble more bite. But you can also leave them out.

Butter

If you want to prepare the apple crumble with oatmeal vegan, you can use margarine instead of butter. It is only important that you take the butter out of the refrigerator early enough and let it soften. Otherwise, the crumble can not be prepared.

Heating butter in the microwave is usually not a good idea - within a few seconds it is liquid. This also does not allow you to form crumbles. Therefore, the first step should always be to take the butter out of the refrigerator.

Whole spelt flour

It does not work completely without flour. Because flour ensures the binding of the crumble. Instead of wheat flour, however, I use whole spelt flour. It is considered much healthier - you can easily replace wheat flour with it.

If you don't have whole spelt flour on hand, use buckwheat flour or whole wheat flour. Single-grain flour also looks very good in the apple dessert.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is very healthy and should be on the menu much more often. They provide strong nails, shiny hair and beautiful skin.

In addition, they make you full for a long time and let the blood sugar level rise only slowly. Their nutritional balance is healthy through and through. The small flakes contain a lot of fiber for healthy digestion. On top of that, a whole range of minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, iron and zinc.

And at the same time they can be transformed into mega many recipes. From desserts like apple crumble to breakfast rolls or hearty roasts, everything is possible. You can also bake bread with oatmeal. So it will not be boring. :)

And with every bite, you're doing something for your health, and that's even though it tastes delicious. While we're on the subject of bites: If your apple crumble has oatmeal in it, it's much more bite-able and gets a nice crunch factor.

You can use large-flake or fine-grain rolled oats.

This recipe is

  • a great and inexpensive autumn dessert
  • long satiating
  • super juicy and changeable
  • Packed with fiber
  • good against cravings
  • a great way to use wizened apples

Apple crumble oatmeal

The most delicious apple crumble with oatmeal and nuts

Are you ready to get started? Here's a recipe with very detailed step-by-step instructions. If you make crumble on a regular basis, you'll find an abridged version of the recipe at the end of the post with exact nutritional information per serving.

This recipe makes 4 servings.

Ingredients for the apple mix

  • 500 g apples (about 3 large apples)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 10 g Coconut blossom sugar*
  • 1 tablespoon raisins
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts

Ingredients for the crumble

Also: knife and board, cake pan, bowl, scale

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 180° top-bottom heat and weigh the butter. Cut the butter into small pieces and let it soften at room temperature.

Prepare apples

Wash the apples. If you buy apples, be sure to peel them. With organic apples or fruit from the garden, the skin can stay on.

Halve the apples, remove the core and cut them into cubes or slices - it's all right, because the apples become very soft during baking anyway. Only the pieces should not turn out too big.

Mix ingredients

Grab a bowl. Add cinnamon, lemon juice, and coconut blossom sugar to the bowl. Mix the ingredients together with a spoon.

Now pour this over the apples and stir in raisins and nuts for the key.

Cover cake pan

Brush a cake pan with a little butter. Pour the apple-sugar-cinnamon mix into the pan and spread it well. The entire bottom should be evenly covered.

Prepare crumble

By now, the butter should be soft. Mix the butter with spelt flour, oat flakes, coconut blossom sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

Knead the ingredients well with your hands so that they can be nicely formed into crumbles. If no visible crumbles form, a little butter is still missing.

Bake apple crumble

Spread the crumble over the apples so that nothing of the fruit is visible.

At 180° upper-lower heat, the Apple Crumble needs about 30 minutes.

Then let it cool until lukewarm - it tastes best that way.

Unfortunately, apple crumble is difficult to lift out of the cake pan. It will most certainly fall apart and crumble. It doesn't look pretty, but of course it doesn't change anything in terms of taste.

If you want it to be nice because you have visitors coming, then you should just put the apple crumble with oatmeal into glasses or small casserole dishes. They will easily withstand the heat of the oven and you can serve it directly in this form.

How to refine your apple crumble with oatmeal

Cardamom*, vanilla, Cocoa powder*, bitter almonds and cinnamon make crumble delicious. You can experiment with it a little. Just don't use too much - especially Cardamom* is very flavorful.

If you want to treat yourself, grab a scoop of vanilla ice cream or warm custard.

If you want, you can replace the apples. Very tasty crumble with berries, plums, pears, rhubarb, peaches or apricots.

However, depending on the type of fruit, you may want to include a little more or less coconut blossom sugar or add a bit of warm honey over the warm crumble at the end.

And if you want your apple crumble to be vegan, just use margarine instead of butter.

And here, as promised, is the short version for the recipe for those who bake regularly and are interested in the nutritional values.

Our conclusion

If your apple crumble has oatmeal in it, it not only tastes better, but is also much healthier. It gives the dessert more bite if you also fold in nuts.

Have fun trying it out, good luck and enjoy!
