Well, where are the sweet tooth? Today we have a delicious date hazelnut cream, which goes perfectly with rolls, waffles and pancakes. This is how you prepare the chocolate spread!

When the slightly tart taste of the baking cocoa meets the sweetness of the date on the tongue, it is an indescribable feeling.

Already at the thought of it the water runs together in my mouth. Mixed is the date cream with roasted hazelnuts and a little Coconut oil*.

Ready is the perfect topping for all kinds of desserts.

This date hazelnut cream consists only of clean ingredients. No sugar, no palm oil and no frills. But the best part is that it is ready in just 10 minutes on the table.

I am annoyed with many purchased chocolate spreads about the large amount of sugar. I'm also annoyed that almost all of them contain palm oil - although the trend here is clearly on the decline. There is also hardly a chocolate cream that does not contain milk powder.

Because I do not feel like all these things, I make date hazelnut cream itself. It's really quite simple and no witchcraft.

This date hazelnut cream is

  • vegan
  • lactose free
  • gluten free
  • prepared very quickly

The only catch is that you need a powerful food processor* you need. I've tried using a hand blender, but it's quite a mess and takes ages. It's worth it if you have a powerful food processor* I have been using mine regularly for over five years now.

Why you should roast nuts for the date hazelnut cream

You don't have to, but I really recommend it. Because with roasted hazelnuts the spread tastes even a bit better. The roasted flavors bring out the flavor of the hazelnuts really well.

While you roast the nuts, you can already soak the dates in water. They need some time to absorb the water.

You have two options: You can either roast hazelnuts in a pan or in the oven. In the pan, however, it's much faster. Leave the skin on the nuts, it provides a good aroma.

  1. Put the hazelnuts without oil in a coated pan. And of course without shell :)
  2. Take only so many nuts that they are not on top of each other
  3. Set the stove top to medium heat
  4. Roast the hazelnuts for about 7 minutes. Important: stir constantly so that nothing burns
  5. Take the pan off the heat and pour the hazelnuts into a bowl. If you leave them in the hot pan, they may burn after all.

If you do not use the nuts immediately, let them cool and then put them in a jar or box with a lid. Store them in a cool and dark place, they will keep for several months and you can always prepare new date hazelnut cream.

If you ever get the urge for chocolate, you are always prepared and can satisfy the craving naturally.

What you need to know in advance

I have an extra tip for you. It's noted in the recipe, but certain things just can't be said often enough. If you want to make the date hazelnut cream, be sure to soak the dates in water. Especially if they are already hard.

If you want, you can cut them into small pieces beforehand. But you have to be very careful, hard dates can end up in a finger blood bath. It is wiser to put the dates in water first and then cut them.

You should not do without chopping with a knife. The first time I tried it, I just threw it whole into the food processor. I thought my food processor was about to take off or even explode. The motor got very hot and the dates were only moderately well chopped.

What I learned from this: Always soak dates and cut them into small pieces. So, enough of the theory now. Let's make this healthy breakfast spread without sugar right now!

Prepare already times the powerful food processor* then you're ready to go.

As you can see, this date hazelnut cream is a spread made from vegan and natural ingredients. It consists of only 5 ingredients, and you can also replace the oat drink with the water in which the dates were soaked.

Also the Coconut oil* is not necessary and can be replaced with water. However, I like to add a little to give the chocolate spread an even better taste.

What you can eat the date hazelnut cream with

Honestly? I could eat them with a spoon right out of the jar. But just because there are no unhealthy ingredients in the breakfast spread, you should still hold back.

Because dates and hazelnuts contain quite a lot of calories. So the recipe from above also comes to a proud 935 calories. Of course, not per bite, but the whole glass. But still, that's really a lot.

Therefore, you should enjoy the date hazelnut spread, but do not overdo it.

The cream fits perfectly with

  • Waffles
  • Pancakes
  • Bread
  • Ice cream
  • Banana shakes
  • Milkshakes
  • Muesli
  • and in cakes.

How you can refine the date spread

You are still missing that certain something? Then try adding the following ingredients:

  • Vanilla
  • a pinch of salt
  • Hazelnut milk instead of oat drink
  • Vanilla oat drink instead of normal oat drink
  • Almonds (replace part of the hazelnuts)
  • a dash of rum
  • Peanut butter
  • Walnuts
  • Cinnamon*
  • Maple syrup

If you don't want it so tart, you can add a little powdered milk.

Just try a little, everything that tastes good is allowed. Which ingredients go best with it, also depends on the intended use. In any case, the date hazelnut cream always tastes wonderful.

Our conclusion

Tasted and found very good - that's all I can think of. I took the chocolate spread to work and it was completely eaten within a very short time. That is really a good sign :). And I must also honestly say: The slightly tart flavor and the sweetness of the dates - since one has no desire at all to the sugary sweet spreads from the supermarket.

Good luck and enjoy it!
