Vegan red lentils dal

From the myriad of recipes for lentil stew, we have created our own mix. We do without all animal products and prepare our lentil dal vegan.

Ingredients
 

  • 75 g red lentils
  • 100 ml Coconut milk
  • 80 ml Water
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 1 Tomato
  • 1 EL Curry powder

for the masala paste

  • 1 TL ground cumin
  • 3 cm fresh ginger
  • 1 Pinch Salt
  • 1 TL Curry powder
  • 1/2 TL Chili powder
  • 1 EL Tomato paste
  • 1 EL Oil

Anleitung

  • First, prepare the masala paste. For this, peel and grate the ginger. Mix salt, ginger, cumin.
  • Stir in curry powder, chili, cayenne pepper (to taste), tomato paste and oil. The spice paste is ready.
  • Heat oil in a saucepan, sauté onion.
  • Now add these ingredients one by one: Garlic, the spice paste and the diced tomatoes.
  • When tomatoes are soft, add coconut milk and water. Bring to a boil.
  • Add the lentils. Simmer for 20-25 minutes. Stir again and again.
  • If the vegan lentil dal is too firm, stir in a little more water.

What is the shelf life of Dal?

Like all dishes with lentils, our vegan dal has an amazingly long shelf life. In the refrigerator lentil dal keeps at least 3 days.

This makes the Lentil stew the perfect companion for the office. Once pre-cooked, it can be eaten for several days without any problems. When you've had enough, the rest just ends up in the freezer. Another plus point goes to Dal, because it doesn't lose its flavor when frozen.

Which lentils are the best for homemade dal?

Yellow, black or still red lentils* for dal? The good news is that you can make a delicious dal from all types of lentils.
