Who is up for really scary looking Halloween cookies? I baked spooky cookies and show you how to decorate them step by step.

If you want to bake Halloween cookies, you don't have to make an elaborate dough. I spice up a simple cookie dough with a few delicious and healthy ingredients.

The cookies are interesting because of the creepy decoration. Especially great is that this makes every single cookie looks different.

This requires a little work, but it really pays off.

So: a simple dough and thousands of design possibilities. If that doesn't sound good? I'll now show you how to make Halloween cookies without household sugar and how to make them look extra spooky.

What ingredients do I need for the Halloween cookies?

Before we get right to the recipe, I want to say a few words about the ingredients. I'll show you what ingredients you need and how you can substitute them if you don't have them at home.

Peanut butter and butter

This time the cookies should get a delicious peanut flavor. For this you need unsweetened peanut butter. Look carefully when you buy them, because most are loaded with a lot of sugar.

If you want to be completely sure of what ends up in your cookie dough, you can use Peanut butter also do it yourself. This is really easy and a great way to use up excess peanuts.

Peanuts, by the way, are considered particularly rich in protein and are a good source of vitamins. They are even said to help us lose weight because they suppress cravings. You'll find plenty of magnesium, B vitamins and vitamin E in them.

You can replace the additional butter in the vegan version with margarine, it ensures that the dough is nice and smooth and juicy.

Make sure that the butter is at room temperature. Only then can it be processed well. Place it on the work surface at least 15 minutes before preparing the dough so that it can soften nicely.

Coconut blossom sugar

As with all recipes, this time we bake without refined sugar.

Coconut blossom sugar* gives the cookies a delicious caramel note. This makes the Halloween cookies really tasty and even healthy! Coconut blossom sugarCompared to household sugar, * is said to contain magnesium, iron, zinc and vitamins. However, I am more interested in the fact that it is known to prevent cravings and, of course, the caramel note, which goes perfectly with peanut butter.

If you do not have Coconut blossom sugar*, then try it with Erythritol* or Birch sugar*.

Almond flour

Unlike cookies with white flour, these Halloween cookies are low carb. This is ensured especially by the Almond flour*. But beware: Almond flour* is not the same as grated almonds*. Fat is removed from the almonds in the flour, which ensures that the dough holds together better and does not crumble when kneading.

Almond flour* contains plenty of vitamins A and E, as well as B vitamins. It also contains iron, zinc and fluorine. In contrast to wheat flour, it contains around 20 times the amount of magnesium and 50 times the amount of calcium.

Almond flour* you can use Coconut flour* but you will need more butter and peanut butter. Coconut flour* has a very high binding capacity. Also remember that Coconut flour* has an intense flavor of its own, which is not necessarily compatible with peanuts.

Chia

Chia seeds* can be replaced by ground Flaxseedreplace with *. However, I can't tell you the exact ratio for baking cookies as I haven't tried it yet.

They soak up water and turn into a gooey mass. In baking, this mix is a great substitute for eggs.

Oatmeal

They are not only particularly well suited as the eyes of the spooky cookies, but also end up in the dough. Rolled oats provide some bite. So that they do not turn out too big, I reach for Fine leaf oatmeal*, which I also chop up with a sharp knife or in the food processor.

If you don't have oatmeal on hand, you can also use spelt flakes. Also suitable Soy flakes*rice flakes, millet flakes, quinoa flakes or coconut flakes.

Well, I won't keep you in suspense any longer. Let's get started right away. In the first step we bake the cookies, in the second step we come to the decoration.

Important: The cookies must be cooled before you can decorate them!

How to decorate the Halloween cookies

Now you can be very creative and let off steam. This is really a lot of fun :)

What you need to decorate the Halloween cookies

  • Oatmeal for the eyes
  • Warmed raspberries for the blood or our homemade strawberry jam
  • Almond slivers for the teeth
  • Melted chocolate for the mouth and eyes

Heat the chocolate until it is liquid. Either you buy special chocolate for decorating. Or you melt a little chocolate in a water bath and then apply it with a shish kebab

You have to work quickly so that the chocolate does not solidify again.

Paint two small dots for the eyes and one for the mouth

Looking for some oatmeal to match. It looks funny if there are two different ones - so one rounder and one elongated.

Or just make your Halloween cookies one-eyed.

Of course, our cookies also get teeth. The best way to make them is with almond slivers. Cut the almonds into small pieces with a sharp knife.

Quickly stick on before the chocolate becomes too solid.

Halloween cookie decorating

Around the eyes and/or mouth there's a little blood. You can apply that with crushed raspberries or jam. I use a shish kebab for this. Just dip it into the "blood" and paint it on.

Be creative and design each cookie differently. You can find some inspiration in the following pictures.

Our Halloween cookies are nibbled by the decorative pumpkins. That makes them a whole lot scarier.

Our conclusion

Well, how do you like it? :) It is a little effort, however, it is really a lot of fun. Bet such Halloween cookies you can't find at any other party?

You should allow enough time for decorating. But the big advantage is that you can prepare the cookies the day before. And you can simply decorate them the next day.
