On some days, not even a large portion of sleep helps against dark circles under the eyes. How you still don't have to go about your daily life zombie-like and how you can cover your unsightly dark circles, you can find out here!

Too much stress and too little sleep are the main causes of dark shadows under the eyes.

They quickly make you look tired, sick and listless. If you see eyes with dark circles in the morning, this is no reason to panic.

We have rummaged in our make-up bag for you and compiled six super simple tips. A fresh, radiant and beautiful eye area is no longer a dream.

We show you how you can easily and quickly remove your dark circles. Because nothing is faster than simply covering the dark circles!

How do dark circles form?

Tired eyes, dark shadows - dark circles are annoying and can make you look older. But where do they actually come from?

The skin under the eyes is particularly thin and sensitive. The blood vessels can easily show through here, which is more noticeable when you are tired, stressed or sleep deprived. Prolonged tiredness and lack of sleep cause the blood vessels in the eye area to dilate and more blood flows through them. The dark blood then shines through the thin skin.

Dehydration can also increase dark circles under the eyes. This is because if the body does not get enough fluid, the water content in the tissue drops. The skin under the eyes becomes thinner and the blood vessels become more visible.

Genetic factors can also play a role. People with dark skin, for example, are more prone to dark circles than people with fair skin.

In addition to the factors mentioned above, certain habits such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and an unhealthy diet can also promote the development of dark circles.

Attention: These are the causes of dark circles!

Are men or women more prone to dark circles?

Women are generally more susceptible to dark circles than men due to the thinner skin around the eyes. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle and the menopause can also lead to more pronounced dark circles in women.

The age at which dark circles appear varies from person to person. For some people, the first dark circles under the eyes appear at a young age, while others are not affected until they are older.

Various factors play a role in the development of dark circles: genetic predisposition, lack of sleep, stress, poor diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and dehydration.

Certain diseases can also cause dark circles, such as allergies, iron deficiency anemia or kidney disease.

Get rid of dark circles

#1 Cream against dark circles under eyes

Especially for your stressed and sensitive skin around the eye area, care is important.

Apply an eye cream to the thin area under the eye. This way you prepare it well for covering dark circles.

We recommend creams with vitamin C, E and peptides or collagen. The delicate eye area is sufficiently moisturized and nourished by these substances. Your final result will not look artificial or cakey.

#2 Primer for dark shadows

Apply your primer all over the face. It prepares your skin for the foundation and optimizes the final result.

Your complexion becomes smoother and more even.  Especially primers with luminous reflections such as mother-of-pearl or gold make your face look radiant and healthy. This can be an additional help when removing eye circles.

#3 Foundation against dark circles

In the third step of concealing dark circles, apply your foundation.

I always like to use a sponge, but you can also use a brush. It is only important that you blend out the foundation well and apply Color Corrector and Concealer afterwards.

#4 Color Corrector

Eye circles can have different colorations. You should know which corrector color you should use to achieve an awake look. These colors are called complementary colors.

Through color correcting, you can achieve a huge visual improvement in a very short time and cover your dark circles almost invisibly.

You only apply the colored corrector to the discolored area under your eyes. I like to use my fingers for this, but you can also use a small sponge. Gently pat in the Color Corrector to cover your dark circles.

Bluish/purple eye circles make up away

Disturbing blue or milan eye circles are best covered with a yellow or orange corrector.

Cover yellow circles under the eyes

No surprise, since yellow and orange are the complementary colors for blue, yellowish dark circles can be neutralized with cool blue and purple. You should use the colors only very sparingly and approach slowly.

By the way, stress or health problems are often causes of yellowish circles under the eyes.

Cover red circles under eyes

You can even out reddish shadows under your eyes with a green color corrector. You may already be familiar with color correctors from the drugstore to cover redness all over the face.

Make up away brown circles under eyes

Orange and salmon colors neutralize brownish discoloration under your eyes best. Brown circles under the eyes are often caused by pigment spots or pimple scars.

#5 The secret against the rings: the concealer

You have now neutralized the discoloration caused by the dark circles. Then apply your concealer. It should be one to two shades lighter than your skin color. This way, it brings a great highlight to your face.

I like to use a liquid concealer. It rarely settles in the small, fine wrinkles around my eyes.

Apply the concealer in a V under your eyes up to the tip of your nose. Then work it in gently with your fingers or a sponge from the outside in. This way you can cover your dark circles and conjure up a really fresh and awake complexion.

No-go would be to wipe now, because that's how you rub your base.

#6 Powder as a fresh finish

Your make up  Creation must necessarily be fixed at the end. With your powder, the concealer lasts for hours. It does not settle or smear. This guarantees that your dark circles are covered and invisible for the day.

You should also dab the powder on loosely and not wipe it.

Extra tip: Lash extensions

You may have heard of eyelash extensions. They can't hide your dark circles, but beautiful eyelashes make the dark shadows stand out a lot less.

Janina has only recently GirlGotLashes tested - you can buy lash extensions there and apply them yourself at home.

So you don't have to invest a lot of money and time in beautiful eyelashes that take the focus off your dark circles.
