Working while standing up? Yes, that's right! If you work standing up in the office, you do your body a lot of good! That is my standing desk experience.

You have also played with the idea of getting a standing desk? Good idea! I've been working standing up for three months. But as we all know, it's hard to get started. I can only say one thing: Don't give up! After 2 weeks it's much easier.

Before you buy an expensive high table, you should definitely practice standing for at least a week. This may sound funny, but believe me: We are no longer used to standing so much!

Why don't you try this inexpensive option? "How to build a standing desk yourself".

Very important: Comfortable shoes! When you stand, you will certainly have painful heels and soles at the beginning. This is normal. It is less painful if you get good shoes or put a balance pad on the hard floor.

By the way, I have a standing desk with a crank in use. I ordered the frame for it from Amazon.

If you choose a crank table, you can save a lot of money. And cranking isn't that bad - it's easy and goes really fast.

And you can save even more if you order the countertop separately. There are suppliers on Amazon that only have tabletops in their range. So you have with this Manufacturer's choice of 6 colors for your table top* and of course different sizes.

This is quite easy to assemble and is really not witchcraft.

No matter whether you choose a DIY table or a table frame, with all standing variations applies: Especially in the beginning standing is not a piece of cake! But just read for yourself:

Standing Desk Experience: My First Week with Standing Desk

Day 1: Set up the standing desk

I'm really not a craftswoman. But with a little help, the standing desk is up and running in three quarters of an hour. There are different versions. I got myself a table with a motor. It can be adjusted in height very quickly and easily.

I slip into my new work shoes and get started right away. After just an hour, my heels start to call out. My legs feel heavy and tired. Almost like lead.

My Standing Desk Experience

I hold out for 3 hours.

I have not yet noticed an increase in productivity by working with Standing Desk. In fact, I'm constantly dancing from my left foot to my right foot and vice versa. The soles of my feet are really glowing.

Day 2: My legs are killing me

The first step out of bed: already my feet are calling. They don't hurt but I feel them properly. My legs are heavy and tired.

But into the office and into my shoes. With the push of a button, it's right in front of me again, waiting for me to get started: the standing desk.

Today I would like to make it longer. That would be a laugh!

I hold out until 11 o'clock. It works out great.

However, my feet hurt from the toes to the heel. I hope that this will soon subside.

My Tip: It helps to shift the weight from one leg to the other every now and then.

Day 3: Sore muscles!

Hello dear sore muscles! No, not as you think in the legs, but in the lower back! Kind of crazy, but also quite normal. Because when we stand, the back also has a lot to do. When sitting, most fall into an unhealthy position with a hunched back. When standing, this is hardly possible. You automatically stand upright. Sounds good, doesn't it?

But I don't find it that thrilling: Painful legs and sore muscles in my lower back are the thanks I get for standing upright. Somehow I feel like I've been run over by a truck and am beside myself.

But giving up has never been my strong point.

Although my body is on strike a bit, I notice that I am much faster and more concentrated, especially when writing. For more complicated tasks, I sit down. It's the mix that does it and it works well!

The desire to necessarily have to stand all day, I throw overboard today. I allow my legs the rest in the afternoon.

Day 4: Shake it!

Slowly, raising the table in the morning is becoming a routine. I still don't feel full of power and drive. But standing works much better than on the second day with a standing desk.

The sore muscles are finally saying goodbye and I notice for myself that I'm standing much more upright than before. When you work standing up, you're constantly on the move. That's very good for me: Because I get cold terribly quickly when sitting. I no longer have this problem.

Also, it's a lot of fun to tick off to good songs. :)

To relax my heels, I always stand on the balls of my feet and stretch my legs. That works great for me.

In the afternoon, I sit down. And unfortunately, I immediately fall back into the unhealthy sitting position. Every half hour I notice it. My shoulders fall forward and my back becomes crooked. It's terrible. I haven't found a good solution yet.

Day 5: Good morning dear standing desk

I feel fitter! The morning "without coffee without me" feeling is gone! The feet are also getting used to the load nice and slowly. I still feel a slight pulling, but I am already far away from the feelings of the first three days.

The only thing that still torments me a little are my heels. But I'll probably have to go through that for a while.

My back is fine again. The sore muscles have almost disappeared. Only when I stretch really hard do I feel the pulling on my spine.

My standing desk experience: After 2 weeks

That I may still experience there! I always had terrible tension in my neck. Sometimes they were so bad that everything felt hard. It pinched, pulled and I got headaches. My masseur said it was from sitting the wrong way. Really scary: headaches from sitting! You have to let that go through your head.

We're really not doing our bodies any good by sitting so much. It was never built to spend so many hours sitting. Anyone who has ever had a standing desk experience will notice that.

Since I got my standing desk, the tension is as good as gone. Yes, in the first week I have to fight with other "pains", but I gladly accept them.

My conclusion

Be sure to try it! You are doing your body something really good. Maybe you can try it when a colleague is on vacation. You should definitely try working with Standing Desk for one week. If it's less, it doesn't pay off. The body has to get used to it first. Then nothing will stand in the way of your standing desk experience.

After three months I can say: No more sitting all day. I feel much better, I'm more productive and I'm less cold :) The worst standing day is Monday. But there I just bite the bullet. I stand until lunch. After that, my legs are allowed to recover.
