Through Professional and Leisure stress often don't have the time (and desire) to pick up a physical book and read it - at least that's the case for me. That's why I decided to do this, Audiobooks given a chance and I am Storytel* "crossed the path".
Today I'm going to tell you about my Storytel experience. I want to help you decide for or against the audiobook provider. I'll tell you everything: What I liked, what I didn't and whether the streaming service is really worth it.👀

What is Storytel?
Storytel* is a Swedish supplier of audiobooks and eBooks, which has been on the market since 2005. The company is headquartered in Stockholm and is active in over 25 countries, including Germany.
Storytel has existed since 2015 following the merger with Massolit Förlagsgrupp and consists of two business units: Streaming and Publishing. Storytel offers its users a subscription model that gives them unlimited access to a large library of audiobooks and eBooks.
Storytel also produces own audio books and eBooks under the Storytel Originals label.🎧👍🏼
Costs and packages
Storytel offers 2 different tariffs which gives you unlimited access to all audiobooks and eBooks. You have unlimited listening and reading with both the Basic and the Unlimited subscription.
The Basic subscription includes 20 listening hourswhich you can consume within 30 days (i.e. from one subscription month to the next). The Basic model gives you access to all extras and functions.
When you register as a new customer, you have 7 days Time to test Storytel extensively test. Your first subscription month will then begin. You will be notified in the app when your listening hours have been used up. If you run out of hours, you can switch to the Unlimited subscription change.
The Unlimited subscription is just that: unlimited. In contrast to other providers, with Storytel unlimited listening hours have - so the upper limit is open month after month.🎧😎
And also Students come with Storytel* not too short: For less than 10€ per month you can unlimited Listening lessons and use the app. Both new and existing customers can convert their subscription into a student account. All you have to do is yearly register on the Storytel student page and download the Update status.
You can also simply use a Child mode activate.😁👍🏼

What does Storytel offer?
Storytel* provides access to more than 600,000 Title. Among them are all well-known and popular genres represented, as well as content that is only available at Storytel - in other words, real secret goods.😄
But if you are looking for the Fan favorite "Harry Potter" (in German), you will find here not find what you are looking for. Even the entire series of "Game of Thrones" is not available at Storytel. Functions and extras
In addition to a gigantic library of audiobooks and eBooks, Storytel offers you some practical Functions and Extras, that make the listening experience that little bit better.
A great extra is that there is no limit to how many downloads you can have. You also have the option of downloading your audiobooks online and offline to listen. This means you can listen to your books even when you're not connected to the internet. Personally, I find this particularly useful for Air travel super!✈️
Do your readers often speak too quickly or too slowly? No problem, because Storytel has the function of Playback speed in the way that suits you best.
You also have the option, and I briefly touched on this in the subscription models, of using a Children's profile for one or more children. Then your little one will only be presented with age-appropriate content.
What's more, you can seamless between your devices and change here, without having to worry about losing your reading progress. If you want to listen to audiobooks while you fall asleep, you'll be glad to hear that the audiobook service offers you a Sleep timer function 🛌💤 🛌💤

My Storytel experience
Now that you have basic functions from Storytel*, I would like to tell you about my personal experience with the service.
As a self-confessed bookworm who only really likes reading real books, I was initially skeptical compared to audiobooks. But because I read and write a lot for work, I often didn't have the energy to read any more in the evenings. Audiobooks therefore seemed to me to be the perfect compromise for pursuing my passion without having to strain my eyes.
I had already heard a lot about Storytel and researched it myself, predominantly positive. So I decided to try out the service myself and put it through its paces. My favorite genre at the moment is Romance fantasy, So fantasy with a touch of romance.🐉❤️
I decided to read "Night of Shadows and Flames" by Laura Labas. Instead of telling you my opinion on the content of the book (which I would admittedly like to do), I would like to tell you about my impressions. Was Storytel able to convince me and convince my Subscription at the end of the probationary period extend?
The following things were important to me at Storytel:
- How quickly can I create an account?
- How intuitive and simple is the app's design and structure?
- How quickly can I find books that suit me? Do the recommendations fit really to me?
- How is the quality of the audiobooks?
- How (well) do the functions and extras work?
- Is Storytel worth the price?
How to create an account
If you want to create an account in the app, you must first click on "Profile. There are then two different options. One is to create an account or log in to an existing account.😃
In my case, I click on "Here we go" to create a new account. In the middle screenshot you can see the options for creating the account. You can then create a password. In the next step, you will be asked whether you want a Basic or Unlimited subscription.
You can also check which better to you fits However, they will only explain what the account includes. After that, you're already done.😊
The Storytel app in the test
Storytel* you can use both for a Android as well as a iOS Smartphone in the App Store. I clicked on "Try the app" because I thought it would take me directly to the system for a trial account... but that wasn't the case.😃
After you, like me, have switched to the Try it out you get to select a country. I have chosen Germany. In the next step, you are asked for the languages in which you want to have eBooks and audiobooks. English and German are automatically selected.
However, you could theoretically choose as many languages as you like.
In the next step, I was asked whether I would like a Listening target wants to set. This is about how many books you want to listen to or read in how many days. You can specify the number of books yourself.
Later on, you can see what percentage of your goal you have already achieved and how many books and days are still missing. That's how I personally did it in no other app and find it super exciting! It motivates you to keep listening and spurs you on.
With "Profile" in the Settings you can also change a few things. Here you can change your privacy, make account settings, delete your account or activate child mode.
Then I went in search of an audio book that I wanted to listen to (as a trial... to be serious). To do this, I went to "Search" in one of the categories that are displayed in colorful Box be displayed. I have opted for the Genre Fantasy decided.
If you scroll down there, you will find the Subcategories and bang - I was able to find Romantasy. I really like that already. I then discovered "Night of Shadows and Flames" in the subcategory and thought it would be perfect for me.😁
If you scroll a little, you can see here some information that might be of interest. Among other things, you can see how often and how well the book has been rated, how long it takes to read aloud (at a simple speed), the language, the genre, an audio sample and the blurb. In other words, everything that is important to you in advance.😃
You can also see at the top that it says "Part 1". So of course I clicked directly to see if it was several titles with it. Unfortunately, there is only one, but I really like the function. You can also see how many Follower the book title has (whatever that means).
Of course, I then saved the book so that it would be available in my Bookshelf lands. If you click on the three dots to the right of the title on the bookshelf, there are several options to choose from. One of these is the download action. This allows you to listen to the book offline.🎧
I then started my audiobook and looked at what features the provider had on offer. The classic is the Chapter selection. The purpose of this is to divide passages into 5-minute sections. I find this really helpful if you need to slip away or decide when you've heard enough.😊
You can also Book details display. There you will again find the blurb and ratings. As with other providers, you can also Storytel* the Hearing speed change. There are classic speeds to choose from, but you can also select and specify one yourself.
And for all of us who like to fall asleep with an audio book, there is a Sleep timer function. You can also choose between preselected times or set one yourself 😴.
How to find the book tips
Unlike other audiobook service providers, there is no "Home" here, but instead the direct "Book tips" button in the bottom bar. Books that match your previous listening habits can be suggested to you there.
I have only one book startedwhich is why I now not can say how accurate the recommendations are. At the moment, it's more of a 0815 recommendation, which may or may not suit you.
The quality of the audiobooks
Storytel relies on Quality - not only with the Navigation and the Simplicity of the app; but also in the quality of the audio books you can listen to.
So you can be really sure that you will only get the best for the price. best quality will expect. This is also the case if you have adapted the speed of reading aloud to your preferences.
I was worried here that it might sound like a robot, but it still sounded flawless. I have tested the speed at x1.5 😊
The functions and extras in the test
To the Functions I can only say that Storytel is really well thought out is. The app does not seem to be well known on the market, as larger providers such as Audible or Bookbeat dominate the market.
Storytel* can more than hold its own between the two giants! The features offered by the listening service are well thought out, simply to operate and very intuitive implemented so that you have no problems finding your way around.
You don't have to search long for a feature or bother with complicated explanations. Personally, I'm a fan of the ratings and the function of being able to view other titles in the same series of novels immediately. So from me there is both thumbs up.👍🏼
My conclusion: Storytel is that good really
I now have my Storytel experience made. But how do I find the listening service provider? Should I take out a subscription? Can the service keep up with the big players on the market?
Me has Storytel* in the test absolutely convinced! I'm delighted with the app, the selection, the functions... actually everything. I also think it's good that the Premium subscription unlimited listening hours, which sets this streaming service apart from others! In other words, a unique selling point that is well worth seeing.
If I may be honest? I can only recommend Storytel. My only shortcoming is that Storytel only allows a trial subscription if you log in via the browser (i.e. not via the app).😃
