This year I'll manage everything I set out to do, this year everything will be different. But how? With our Instruction to implement resolutions of course!

The new year begins and with it the time of good intentions. It's a shame that most goals and plans fail after a few weeks and are forgotten. We put them in the graveyard of other forgotten goals and soon try again. This cycle can go on forever, but it doesn't have to!

If you don't want the time after New Year's Eve to be a battle with yourself but a healthy challenge, then I have the right tips for you here.

Implementing resolutions - What is important?

Write down resolutions

  1. The decision:

At the beginning of every resolution is a personal dissatisfaction and the desire to change something. It is nice to wish for something, but unfortunately wishing alone is useless for big projects. You have to deal with the desire and make the active decision to change your life until the desired goal is achieved.

  2. Write down resolutions:

Once the decision to change is made, it's time to get down to business. Most of us make the mistake of not writing down our goals. This is also the main reason for failure! When you write something down you have to deal with the resolution, besides it has something of a contract with yourself when you write down your intentions. (How to formulate goals correctly you see below)

  3. Partial goals are the path to success:

Especially with big goals it is important to formulate partial goals. This keeps you motivated longer and gives you several small feelings of success that help you reach the main goal. For example, if you don't want to eat sugar anymore, it will be easier for you to minimize sugar week by week than to stop eating sugar from one day to the next.

  4. Eliminate problems beforehand:

Before you even start to put your plans into action think about: What can go wrong? I do not want to say that you should see everything negatively. But if you think through problems and their solutions in advance, they will not be a problem later on.

  5. Start immediately:

Today you write down your goal and today you should start with it. The sooner you overcome your pain threshold the better.

  6. Stay tuned!

Even if slips happen, don't give up your resolutions so quickly. I often make exceptions, am annoyed and in the end I give up far too quickly. Mistakes happen, so you shouldn't stop.

What is a well-articulated goal?

The first problem with most goals is that they are fuzzy and vague. Such a goal is for example: "I want to lose weight". With this statement, no great leaps can be made. It lacks a precise time, how much you actually want to lose weight and how you can do it.

Well-formulated resolutions have many things in common: they include precise Deadlines, are clear often already contain the Plan to achieve the goal .

Looking at the goal from earlier, a better worded goal would be "On 12/31/2017 I will have 8 kilos less and to achieve that I will do at least 2 hours of exercise per week and reduce my sugar consumption".

Insider tips from us:

  • Keep a project journal to document your accomplishments.
  • Tackle your goal step by step so that it doesn't become too much for you.
  • Stay realistic but not pessimistic. Your goal will not be easy to achieve. But the end result is worth it!
  • Get allies, in pairs some things are easier
  • Imagine what your future will look like when you reach your goal, this will keep you motivated longer.
  • If you have multiple goals, prioritize them.
  • Believe in yourself!
  • Try to incorporate the process of goal achievement into your daily routine.

Good luck!
