You want to make a body oil yourself? It's really easy! So quickly you stir together a care oil that perfectly suits your skin type and here's what you have to watch out for.

A massage with body oils not only feels good, you also stimulate cell metabolism and relax your mind. Are you, like me, dissatisfied with store-bought products? They are expensive, irritate the skin and smell artificial.

Yet you realize that your skin is desperately longing for a nourishing oil and more moisture? You don't have to buy expensive creams, ointments or oils. You can make body oil yourself and much faster than you think.

Today I'll show you how to make your own nourishing oil that perfectly suits your skin type.

It is really very simple, even natural cosmetics beginners can do it!

What ingredients do you need to make body oil yourself?

You need a base oil to your liking and an essential oil for the fragrance. That's it. For very dry skin, other oils are suitable than for itchy or sensitive skin.

If you are unsure and afraid that the skin will become oily and greasy after application, you can rest assured. With these oils and the instructions, this is guaranteed not to happen. After all, they are known to be absorbed particularly quickly and do not leave an oily film.

There are two ways to make body oil yourself:

  1. Base oil + essential oil
  2. Base oil + ingredients like herbs, peels etc.

and possibly a little vitamin E for durability.

DIY care oil consists of 100 % natural ingredients. Unlike products from the store, it does not contain preservatives, mineral oil or other harmful or artificial substances.

Today I would like to present you with instructions for both options. So a version in which essential oils are added and one in which you bring fragrance into the oil with coffee beans.

TipIn the book, The Glow - Naturkosmetik selber machen, you will find many great instructions for DIY cosmetic projects. From creams, shampoos, scrubs, oils you will find many step-by-step instructions with photos.

What is the best base oil for my body type?

The basis of each care oil is a vegetable base oil. These oils are obtained from nuts, seeds or fruits. They contain nourishing fatty acids and vitamins that pamper our skin.

Here, one reaches for oils that are quickly absorbed and have hardly any intrinsic odor, because they are difficult to combine with essential oils. This is why olive oil is not used, although it is basically good for the skin.

When buying, make sure that you use cold-pressed oil. This is the only way to really preserve the vitamins and positive properties of the oil.

Which oil is right for you depends on your skin type. If you have very dry skin, you need a different oil than if you have sensitive skin.

The most suitable are these four oils:

Almond oil as base oil

It is obtained from the kernels of the almond tree. Almond oil* provides the skin with a lot of moisture and has a very light marzipan scent. Visually it is Almond oil* transparent.

Almond oil* is very well tolerated and suitable for all skin types. Even for very sensitive skin. It regenerates irritated skin, soothes redness and can soften scars.

Jojoba to make body oil yourself

Another classic in natural cosmetics is Jojoba oil*. The great advantage of Jojoba oil* is that it is completely odorless. The oil is extracted from the nuts of the jojoba bush.

It is used especially for oily and blemished skin. Big plus: Jojoba oil* has an eternally long shelf life.

Small tip: From Jojoba oil* you can use a DIY make facial cleansing oil!

Grape seed oil

Yes, oil can be extracted even from small grape seeds. This not only looks good on salads, but also in natural cosmetics.

With 90 %, it has a very high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. This makes it absorbs particularly quickly and does not leave a sticky feeling. Grape seed oil* is well and easily tolerated, even for blemished skin. The oil has anti-inflammatory properties and is therefore particularly suitable for combination skin.

Purely visually Grape seed oil* slightly yellowish.

Apricot kernel oil for DIY body oil

Apricot kernel oil* has similar properties to Almond oil*. It also smells slightly of marzipan. However, it is absorbed into the skin more quickly than almond oil.

This oil is used especially for dry skin. But you can also use it to remove makeup. It removes even waterproof makeup.

And also very practical: Oily skin can be freed from excess oil with it. The oil removes skin grease and makes the skin caressingly soft.

Basic recipe: make your own body oil

You can modify this basic recipe to your liking by using other fragrances or a different base oil.

Material

  • 100 ml vegetable oil
  • 20 drops essential oil
  • 20 drops Vitamin E oil*

Also: glass or vial, funnel, teaspoon

Pour the vegetable oil into a jar or vial. Use a funnel for this purpose.

Drop the essential oil onto a teaspoon and then pour it into the jar via the funnel.

Close the jar and shake it quite well until the ingredients are mixed together.

ImportantTo keep the oil for a long time, use a brown or dark blue bottle. Store the body oil away from light.

Do I need to use essential oil?

In theory, you can only use base oil to make your own body oil. It is the most important ingredient of the DIY care oil. But a little essential oil brings not only fragrance to your natural cosmetics, but many more positive qualities (you can read about it here).

Essential fragrance oils affect the body, mind and soul. Depending on what you just feel like, you decide. That's what makes making your own body oil so interesting. You can mix an oil for the mood of the moment.

So it also quickly becomes a very personal gift.

The classics are

  • Lavender against stress, sleep disorders and as a mosquito repellent
  • Rose as a balance and against stress
  • Lemon as a wake-up and energy kick
  • Rosemary against sore muscles

ImportantEssential oils are highly concentrated and very intense. Therefore, you should never apply them purely to the skin. This can cause itching, redness and rashes. You must always mix them with a base oil.

If you want to make a body oil yourself, then just a few drops of essential oil are enough. So you get a very light fragrance that is not intrusive.

Always test the body oil on a small area of skin first before applying it over a large area. Because even if essential oils are diluted, one or the other can react sensitively to it.

If you don't have essential oil on hand or want to mix a very personal scent, you can make an oil extract. This involves soaking solid ingredients in oil for 2 to 3 days, where they can transfer their scent.

Particularly well suited are

  • Coffee beans
  • Cocoa beans
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Orange peels
  • Lemon peels
  • Fresh flowers like fragrant roses

After the rest period, pour the oil through a funnel and then drain. Done!

What does vitamin E do?

You can add a little vitamin E to the mixture. This is not mandatory, but has the advantage that it makes your DIY oil last longer.

Vitamin E is also skin nourishing and has an antioxidant effect. It prevents skin aging, reduces skin damage, can prevent age spots and has a smoothing effect on the skin.

You can order liquid vitamin E online or simply open vitamin E capsules.

The special DIY body oil with coffee scent

Here you will find a particularly great tutorial for those who love coffee.

Material

  • 5 tablespoons roasted coffee beans
  • 100 ml almond oil

Preparation:

Place the coffee beans in a tea towel. Hit the tea towel a few times with a hammer or a pot to break up the beans.

Put the bean pieces in a jar and pour the almond oil over them.

Let this mix infuse for at least 3 days, shaking the jar every day.

Then you can pour it through a sieve and bottle.

Effect

The oil from coffee beans is particularly well tolerated by our skin. It contains linoleic acid, which can act against irritated skin, light damage or age spots. The stearic acid and palmitic acid cause the skin to become soft and supple.

How to apply DIY body oil correctly?

Only by gently massaging in the care oil can it develop its full effect. So take your time for a longer massage to achieve the best effect.

Shake the bottle before each use so that the ingredients mix together. It is best to apply the DIY body oil directly after showering or bathing. Then the pores are opened by the steam and can better absorb the oil.

Massage the oil into the damp skin. It is important that you do not dry the skin completely, but only very roughly. It is enough to wipe off the excess water with your hands.

Put the oil in the palm of your hand and then massage your body with it. Two pumps are enough for a whole arm. You should apply body oil thinly.

Our conclusion

If you want to make your own body oil, all you need is a base oil and an essential oil. However, do a little research on the effects and your skin type if you want to mix the right product for you.

Sweetly packaged in a small bottle, this is a nice DIY gift that comes from the heart! :)

Good luck!
