You have a whole load of apples to process? Simply prepare juice from them. This is how you can make apple juice yourself without a juicer.

What an apple year! The branches of the trees bend and already hang almost to the ground.

Because so much can never be eaten, it's time to process the precious fruit. The many rains have led to the fact that the apples are not long shelf life.

But if you quickly turn them into juice, you can enjoy them all winter. So you can make an apple juice itself - without a juicer.

Why should I make apple juice myself?

There are many reasons why you should make your own apple juice. Probably the most important one is the taste. Once you drink your own juice, you will notice the big difference.

You have control over which apples you use and how sweet your apple juice should be. And at the same time you do without preservatives. Since apples are in season, you can get them everywhere. Maybe you have an apple tree in your garden, or your neighbor doesn't know where to put it?

But you can also buy apples. I recommend that you look around at the farmer's market. Here, larger quantities are usually quite cheap. And the best thing: You often get older varieties, which make the juice particularly aromatic.

You don't have to use any additives for your own apple juice. Just apples and maybe a few squirts of fresh lemon juice to balance out the sweetness. No wonder apple juice itself is so popular!

Juices are a great way to utilize fruit and save it from spoiling. Making syrups, juices, jams, etc. yourself is a great hobby that has a very relaxing effect on many people - including me.

If you love apples above all else or simply have too much apple juice already, then try this homemade applesauce with cinnamon. If you boil it down, it will last for many years.

Which apple varieties are the best for juicing?

There are many varieties of apples that you can use to make your own apple juice. For each type of apple, you should pay attention to the degree of ripeness. Make sure that the apples are sweet and aromatic.

Just about any apple is suitable for juicing. It depends a little on your taste - do you prefer it sweet or can you also add a little acid?

Sweet apple varieties are:

  • Golden Delicious
  • Granny Smith
  • Fuji

Sour apple varieties are:

  • Granny Smith
  • Pippin
  • Cox's Orange

If I have too few fruits at home, then I like to fall back on apples from the weekly market when making apple juice myself without a juicer (and also with a juicer). There are many old varieties here that taste better than the classic supermarket apple.

If you find a nice dealer, I'm sure they'll let you taste and give you advice.

You can also mix several apple varieties. Usually you use a mix of sweet and sour apples so that the juice tastes balanced. If you only have one sour variety, you can add a little sugar. If the variety is too sweet, add a little lemon juice.

That is why a juicer is worthwhile to make apple juice yourself

Like so many things, apple juice tastes great when you make it yourself. Much better even than the one from the supermarket.

I'm about to show you how to make your own apple juice - without a juicer. However, if you have a large amount of apples in front of you, it is worth thinking about buying a machine.

Using a juicer to make juice has one big advantage: you have the possibility to process fruits and vegetables in larger quantities. What costs you a lot of time and nerves, the juicer manages with little effort.

The principle is simple:

  1. Put apple in the juicer
  2. Press button
  3. Collect and bottle juice

This takes just a few seconds per apple.

By the way: You can also use vegetables with the juicer. Raw vegetables in particular taste best pure, i.e. without further seasoning. Celery and cucumber are among the vegetables that are juiced most often.

When buying a juicer, make sure it has a large feed opening. I highly recommend this model. This device is the most popular on Amazon:

Can you juice apples with core?

Yes. While you have to peel many other fruits and remove the core, you can juice apples with the peel and core. The remains of the apple stay in the juicer, you only get the juice. In fact, you should leave the peel on, because it hides many vitamins and nutrients.

But what you need to do in any case is to remove bruises. We use only the fresh part of the apple for the juice. So the taste is not distorted and the juice tastes better.

What you need to know when making apple juice without a juicer

Do not be surprised if the juice does not become clear. Homemade apple juice contains suspended solids. These cannot be filtered out with a kitchen towel. So it is quite normal that it is cloudy.

But this is not a bad thing. In fact, clear apple juice contains fewer healthy ingredients.

After preparation, it is heated so that it can be kept longer. Very freshly squeezed juice, which you do not heat, should be drunk within a very short time. It also doesn't taste very good because it oxidizes. This is the same process that happens when you cut open an apple and leave it.

Apple juice without juicer recipe

How can I make apple juice myself without a juicer?

There are two ways to make apple juice without a juicer. For the first variant you need a blender, for the second a saucepan and a vegetable grater.

Apple juice with blender

You can make your own apple juice with a blender. For this you need the apples, a powerful Blender* or blender and a straining cloth.

  1. Wash the apples and core them. Quarter the fruit to be able to process them better.
  2. Put the apples in a bowl. Switch to the highest setting and wait until you have a thick mixture. If they do not crush, you can help with a sip of water.
  3. Grab a bowl and a straining cloth. Squeeze the apple mixture through the cloth into the bowl. Squeeze it out gently.

Apple juice without blender and without juicer

You don't have a blender or a juicer and you want to make juice? Then you need a large saucepan and a straining cloth.

  1. Wash the apples and sort out the bad ones.
  2. Grate the apples with a vegetable grater or food processor with grating attachment. Catch the juice.
  3. Heat the juice and the crushed apples in a saucepan. Short boil is already enough for the apples to release the flavor.
  4. Line a sieve with a straining cloth.
  5. Allow the apple mixture to cool briefly. Wring out the fruit with the cloth.

For both methods: collect juice and heat briefly to 80 degrees, so it will keep longer. Variant two: So apple juice with vegetable grater and cooking pot takes longer, but is much less exhausting.

Recipe: Make two and a half liters of apple juice without juicer

Are you ready to get started? Then let's get started. I'm about to tell you my favorite way to make apple juice without a juicer. This approach has stood the test of time.

But please do not forget beforehand the Sterilize bottles. Otherwise, germs will form and cause your juice to begin to mold!

All those who make juice regularly will find a short version of the recipe at the end of the post.

Ingredients

  • 2 kg apples
  • 1 L water

Also: 2 large cooking pots, 1 colander, knife, board, bowl, funnel, thermometer, clean bottles.

1. prepare the apples

Wash the apples, generously cut out brown spots and rotten spots. Look carefully to see if the apples are worm-eaten.

Cut the apples in half to make them easier to grate right now.

2. chop the apples

Grate the apples in a food processor. You can also use a vegetable slicer if you don't have a food processor.

Put the apples with the juice into the pot. Rinse the container of the food processor with a little water and pour it into the pot. Add a total of one liter of water to the crushed apples.

3. heat apples

Turn the stove on to the highest temperature. As soon as you notice that the juice is getting warm, remove the pot from the stove.

In between, stir with the wooden spoon every now and then.

4. make the apple juice yourself

Line the sieve with the kitchen towel. Place the sieve on the second saucepan. Pour the apple mixture into the sieve. Now let it cool for a few minutes so you don't burn yourself.

Now it's time to twist the cloth and wring the juice out of the apple pieces. Twist and squeeze it as hard as you can.

By the way: It's best to use a straining cloth. I have already completely destroyed one or the other dishtowel when wringing it out.

5. fill juice

Now boil the juice. The apple juice should not be heated above 80°, because all the healthy nutrients from the fruit are lost.

So you can use a kitchen thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature. Or you can rely on your gut feeling.

When a light brownish foam forms in the pot, the temperature is about 80 degrees.

Pour the juice into the bottles and seal them immediately. Use a funnel for this purpose.

Can you preserve apple juice?

You have completed the project "Make your own apple juice without a juicer"? Congratulations! And now? How long does the apple juice keep?

You can fill it hot and close the bottles immediately. Store them in a dark and cold place. Depending on where you store it, it can last up to a year this way. At room temperature it is much less.

Or you can make it last forever. For this, you have to boil it down. Apple juice lasts a long time if it is boiled down. And then stored away from light.

For fruit juices, the rule is: boil down for 30 minutes at 100 degrees in the saucepan. Everything you need to know about this can be found in the article "Canning in a saucepan for beginners" find

By the way, hot filling is not boiling down! And please do not put the bottles upside down, this is completely pointless and even ensures that he spoils faster.

And here is the short version of the recipe for those who regularly prepare juice.

Our conclusion

Making your own apple juice without a juicer is possible. However, it is quite a sticky business. If you want to juice a lot of apples, you will soon reach your nervous limits. For small quantities, however, a food processor, saucepan, tea towel and strainer will suffice.
