You have a mini-balcony and still want to make it beautiful? We have collected all year photos a few great tips for you.

For most people, a balcony belongs to the apartment like the sun belongs to summer. Sitting in the sun, reading or enjoying a drink - especially in summer you can use your balcony in many ways. But often the balcony is too small. Especially in rented apartments, balconies are often only 5 m² in size.

With a few little tricks, you can get a lot more out of your small balcony and turn it into a feel-good oasis.

We have collected for you all year round tips about saving space and decoration. Mini balcony in spring, summer and autumn :)

Flowers, vegetables and herbs on the mini balcony

If you can not do without flowers, like me, it is best to use hanging pots. They are very easy to attach to the terrain and you can buy them in many great colors :)

Depending on which direction your balcony faces, you should choose the appropriate flowers. While some are happy with little sun, others need a lot of light. Expert advice is available at the nursery.

Herbs on the balcony

Little Tip: Herbs can also be grown super in hanging pots. I have experimented a lot, these herbs are especially good for flower pots.

I put the herbs in a planter made especially for vertical gardening. I am surprised how well it works. The herbs have more soil than in a regular hanging pot. You can stack as many as you want on top of each other.

Herbs, for your mini balcony:

  • Rosemary
  • Chives (hardy)
  • Parsley
  • Oregano
  • Basil

Even with vegetables you can get a good harvest on a small balcony. What can not miss for years with me are cucumbers and tomatoes. I always find room for 2 tomato plants and a cucumber.

If it is really very tight with you, you can also let the cucumber hang from the ceiling. Works really great and is space-saving :)

Here's what you'll need for your homemade cucumber pot:

  • An old XXL can
  • Plate shears
  • Adhesive tape
  • Chain or very sturdy cord
  • Hooks for the ceiling
  • If desired: varnish and brush
  • Earth and cucumber plant

Here's how:

Cut a square opening (5×5 centimeters will do) in the bottom of the can with tin snips. It should not be much larger, otherwise the soil will fall out when watering. So that you don't hurt yourself here, tape the opening. You should do the same on the other side of the can - just everywhere where there is a sharp edge.

Now make holes on the upper side. They are for the chain with which you hang your cucumber pot.

Now it's time for the optics. I left mine in its original state because it was still very nice. If you're in the mood for color, you can go wild now. Paint the pot your favorite color. You can also use spray paint. When the cucumber pot is dry, put the chain on it. Attach a hook to the ceiling of your balcony.

Place the cucumber plant with the shoot facing down through the hole in your pot. Now fill the cucumber pot with soil. Hang it up and you're done :)

You can plant herbs on the top. However, they have not survived very long in my case.

Tables and chairs for small balcony

If you have little space, you should keep your hands off space-hogs. The furniture on the mini-balcony should be small and ideally even foldable. Ikea offers great solutions for small balconies. In the meantime, however, all furniture stores have jumped on the trend.

I always go for a small square table because it provides enough storage space for a great outdoor breakfast. Both table and chairs are foldable and made of rattan, because that is particularly easy to clean. It also allows me to leave the furniture outside in the winter. Just fold it up and cover it with a sheet of plastic. Done.

Old boxes as decoration

I love them. They are insanely versatile - you can let your imagination run wild :) If you want to put plants in the boxes, you need to line them with foil. I use extra large garbage bags for this. It's cheaper than buying extra pond liner for it. But now you have to be careful when watering.

If you water too much, your plants will drown. If you water too little, they dry out.

I have also planted potatoes. Works great in the boxes. By the way, lettuce is also very tasty and easy to care for.

Chill on the mini balcony

If you like to lie down outdoors and don't feel like going to the park, you can do it on your balcony. So that you do not waste unnecessary space, you'd better resort to the hammock. Compared to a deck chair, the hammock saves a lot of space. :)

It's also best to install a privacy screen. Who wants to feel like they're being watched on their own mini-balcony?

Shelves create space

A shelf on the side of your mini balcony creates space. You can store things in it and stack plants :)

Autumn on the small balcony

Your balcony you can beautifully set the scene in spring, summer and also in autumn. Skins, cushions, decks and autumn flowers are particularly suitable. You can fully let off steam.

But also in the evening you can have it nice and romantic on your balcony. Candles and lanterns are very trendy right now and turn your balcony into a feel-good oasis. A few small solar-powered lanterns are a special highlight :)
