For a long time I skillfully ignored dried tomatoes. I would never have thought of buying any. When a friend gave me a jar of tomatoes in olive oil, I was initially at a loss. 1-2x I have prepared a pasta sauce from it.

But you have to be able to make a sundried tomato spread, right?

Yes, you can. And how even!

Since I tried the spread for the first time, I no longer want to eat any other. Okay, in between it may also be another. But if I have the choice, then I will always choose this spread with sun-dried tomatoes.

The tomato cream with herbs is my absolute highlight. As soon as you can invite friends for brunch again, I'll try it right away in a larger group.

The intense tasting tomatoes mixed with garlic, onions and fresh basil stirred in cream cheese and sour cream - this is simply a dream.

The pizza seasoning adds the finishing touch to the recipe. I use a ready-made pizza seasoning mix for this. But you can also mix it yourself. You need dried oregano, thyme, garlic, thyme, savory, paprika, salt and bell pepper.

By the way: If you follow a vegan diet, you can simply replace the cream cheese. And that is with vegan cream cheese. There are spreads based on soy, lupine, cashew. You just leave out the sour cream. The cream cheese alone is perfectly sufficient, if you like it a little creamier and more liquid, you can use soy casein or a spoonful of vegan yogurt.

Tomatoes in oil or mere dried tomatoes?

What is the best way to prepare the spread with sun-dried tomatoes? Tomatoes in oil or just? Both are allowed. Tomatoes in oil have the advantage that they are much easier to cut and chop. They are also ready to use immediately.

Dried tomatoes that are not preserved in oil are tough. Therefore, you need to put them in water beforehand. After 30 minutes in lukewarm water, they absorb a lot of liquid and also taste more aromatic. Of course, if you put the tomatoes in water, you will save a lot of calories.

A dried tomato that you soak in water will be about 3x as heavy. It's best to just try it out. For the recipe I'm about to present you, 4-5 dried tomatoes are enough.

You should still add a little oil to the spread. It makes it taste better and smoother when spreading. A teaspoon of aromatic olive oil is perfect.

By the way, the cream tastes even more intense if you use tomatoes that you have dried yourself. They have a much stronger aroma. Once I have tried this so far - the pure madness! :)

  • 1 Garlic clove
  • 1 Onion
  • 60 g Dried tomatoes in olive oil
  • 300 g Cream cheese
  • 100 g Sour cream
  • 1 TL Pizza seasoning
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 Confederation Basil

Anleitung

  • Peel garlic and onion. Chop them into small pieces. Cut the dried tomatoes into small pieces. You can also puree them in a food processor.
  • Mix cream cheese and sour cream - stir until smooth and add to garlic and onion. Stir in the pizza seasoning, salt and pepper.

Prepared too much? The spread will keep for about 4-5 days. You can put it not only on bread, but also in wraps. It's also great on pasta - especially delicious if you stir in some freshly fried shrimp.
