Today's a juicy plum crumble with oatmeal. Without sugar and without flour. So you can conjure up a healthy and delicious dessert!

Have you ever had crumble? I love it! Whether it's with pear, apple or plum, I couldn't care less 🙂. Super juicy and crunchy combined in one bite. Yummy!

The only drawback is that conventional recipes are very unhealthy. And this despite the fact that they consist largely of fruit. In addition, however, masses of white flour, butter and household sugar are used. In a classic recipe, you can quickly reach over 300 calories per 100 grams.

And quite honestly: When does it stay at just 100 grams?

For the healthy snacking with lots of nutrients and less unhealthy sugar and white flour, I have tinkered a bit and tried. And what can I say: It was worth it!

The result is a delicious plum crumble with oatmeal. Without table sugar and white flour. But let's see the benefits in detail.

What's in favor of plum crumble with oatmeal?

Anyone who, like me, has nice neighbors and acquaintances and is surprised every now and then with fruit from the garden knows: fresh fruit has to be processed very quickly. When after Plum compote is still much over, then a dessert must be here, which can be seen. Here comes the plum crumble with oatmeal just right.

So for the healthy option, we do without white flour and sugar. Oatmeal and nuts, which are filling and provide healthy fats, take their place.

Since we all eat way too much sugar and flour anyway, I came up with an alternative. It is just as easy to prepare as the conventional variant. But tastes worlds better.

This plum crumble with oatmeal has much more nutrients and makes you full for a long time. On top of that, there's a portion of fiber that your digestion will be happy about.

With this crumble recipe with plums you can eat without a guilty conscience! But beware: Nuts are healthy, but contain a lot of fat and therefore calories.

This recipe is

  • vegan and therefore free from lactose, egg and other animal foods
  • gluten free
  • Packed with healthy fiber
  • long satiating
  • hot-hunger-satisfying
  • a great way to utilize not so fresh plums anymore
  • also suitable for novice cooks

Plums dessert without sugar

What ingredients do I need for the plum dessert?

Before we get right to the recipe, let's take a look at the ingredients. I'll tell you what makes the crumble so healthy and what you can substitute individual ingredients with if you don't have them on hand.

Plums

Also called plums or damsons. There are very many different varieties of plums from purple, yellow to red - you can use whichever you like. Just make sure they are properly ripe - otherwise the dessert will be sour.

To check whether they are already suitable, you can squeeze them with between thumb and forefinger. If they give slightly, they are optimal. Alternatively, you can just taste one. The riper they are, the more fructose they have developed and the better the crumble tastes.

If you have only unripe plums, you can let them ripen. Put them in a paper bag, close it well and put it aside for 1-2 days. Make a taste. If it is not enough, let them ripen for a few more days. It's worth the patience! The plum crumble without flour and sugar will be much more aromatic.

Plums should be a regular part of your menu in the fall. They contain a lot of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphate, copper and almost all B vitamins, which are important for the nerves and metabolism. Vitamin A is also hidden in the fruit - it is said to be particularly good for healthy skin and strong eyesight.

On top of that, there's a load of phytochemicals that can help with infections and inflammatory processes in the body. Plums also support digestion. However, if you have a sensitive stomach and can't tolerate much fructose, you shouldn't eat too much of the fruit.

Oatmeal

We need Fine leaf oatmeal* for the recipe. If you only have coarse rolled oats, chop them up a little with a knife or food processor. If you don't have any rolled oats at all, you can use de-oiled Soy flakes* or use spelt flakes. Spelt flakes do not absorb the juice of the plums so well.

Oatmeal provides you with a lot of nutrients. You can find biotin (good for skin, hair, nails), zinc, silicon and copper. Their high content of beta-glucans can lower cholesterol levels. In addition, they saturate for a very long time and ensure that you do not get ravenous appetite. And also the digestion benefits from it.

Nuts

With the oatmeal crumble we mix in nuts. Hazelnuts and almonds are particularly suitable. If you like, you can stir in a few chopped walnuts. But also Cashews*, pecan nuts and similar nuts fit into the recipe. You have a free choice here.

And what, of course, can not miss with plums and nuts: Cinnamon*. By the way, the recipe also tastes good with Gingerbread spice* very tasty.

Coconut oil and coconut blossom sugar

Of course, this recipe is not completely without fat and sugar. Coconut oilHowever, * is considered much healthier than rapeseed oil or butter because it contains long-chain fats. Coconut blossom sugar* does not cause blood sugar levels to rise so quickly and is therefore considered much healthier than household sugar - it also has a pleasant caramel note that goes perfectly with the plums.

I use for baking almost only Coconut blossom sugar*, especially for fall and winter recipes. If you don't have Coconut blossom sugar* at hand, I can give you Erythritol recommend because it has 0 calories has or Birch sugar* – sie beide gelten als viel gesünder als Haushaltszucker und sind vor allem viel kalorienärmer.

Likewise, apple juice provides a slightly sweet note. But it is also designed to combine all the ingredients.

Here you will find a long version of the recipe for those who have never made a healthy crumble before. If you are looking for a short version of the recipe or want to know the nutritional values per serving, you can find a short version of the plum dessert at the end of the post.

The recipe makes enough for 2 larger servings or 4 dessert servings.

Ingredients

Also: baking dish or tart pan, knife and board, bowl, mixer.

Preheat the oven to 180° top-bottom heat.

1. prepare plums

Wash the plums thoroughly and cut them in half to remove the pit. Now cut them in half again to get quarters. Very large fruits can be chopped again.

Place the plums in the baking dish and sprinkle with half of the cinnamon.

2. prepare sprinkles

Melt the Coconut oil* in a saucepan at a low temperature. Give Coconut blossom sugar* and Agave syrup* to this. Stir in the remaining Cinnamon* under.

Mix the oats and nuts together in a bowl. If you only have large oats, then you should grind them in a food processor. Add the Coconut oil*-Mix über die Haferflocken und schütte den Apfelsaft dazu.

Mix the ingredients until you get a crumble-like dough. For this you need the kneading attachment of the hand mixer.

3. prepare oatmeal crumble

Spread the crumble mixture evenly over the plums. The plums should be completely covered. Now bake the plum crumble with oatmeal in the oven for 40 minutes.

10 minutes before the end of baking, place a piece of baking paper on the casserole. Otherwise, the crumble may become too dark.

If you like it very crispy, you can switch to the grill function in the oven for the last few minutes and omit the baking paper.

The crumble tastes best when it is fresh from the oven and allowed to cool a bit - lukewarm is perfect. Tip: Serve it with a little yogurt or cream.

I love this recipe because it's just perfect when the cravings come. It satisfies it quickly and also in the long term.

How you can refine the plum crumble

Somehow the recipe does not quite convince you? No problem - as we all know, tastes are different. So if you still want to improve, then try these ingredients:

  • Gingerbread spice* instead of Cinnamon*
  • Cardamom*
  • Raisins or dried cranberries (soak in water or rum for 1 hour beforehand)
  • Walnuts
  • Sliced almonds
  • Vanilla bean or vanilla flavoring
  • Dates
  • Almond or other nut puree
  • Cornstarch* for more binding of the dough
  • Additional: apple pieces or pear pieces

And of course much more.

What you can sweeten the plum crumble with

Let's leave household sugar aside. It is very unhealthy, harms the bikini figure and the teeth.

Instead of sugar, you can use these healthier alternatives:

But you shouldn't use too much of it either. You save on sweetness if you use ripe fruit. They contain much more fructose and make the plum crumble with oatmeal really delicious.

Unripe fruits are sour and hard. You need a lot of sweetener for it. If you have the opportunity, you should buy fruit at the market. There it often comes from farmers and is harvested ripe. This means that the fruit contains much more secondary plant substances and is healthier overall.

For those of you who make crumbles on a regular basis, here's a quick version of the recipe with accurate nutritional information.
