Gymondo experience

There are so many fitness apps and workout programs out there. But are they really worth it? I tested Gymondo for you and wrote down everything you need to know. This is my honest Gymondo experience!

A rainy Sunday morning thwarts my plans to spend the day on the mountain.

And what do you do to distract yourself from annoying housework? A little swiping through Instagram and Facebook of course :)

Here I get for a good two weeks constantly fitness advertising. Well, today I have time and look at the same time a little closer.

This is my Gymondo experience for all those who have also wondered whether it's really worth it and how it works.

Sorry for the long text, but I really wanted to answer all questions :) If you want to skip a point, you can simply click into the table of contents.

Gymondo experience

Gymondo - what is it?

I click on the advertisement and land on the Gymondo page. "Get Fit. At home" it says. Sounds really good at first. I'm not the gym type and prefer to have variety in the workout than monotonously lift any weights.

I don't need any equipment for training. That's wonderful, because I don't have much at hand anyway. Body weight, workout clothes and a mat are enough for the beginning.

Simply put, Gymondo is a website where you can work out.

There are lots of videos here of workouts you can do. Kind of like Youtube but more professional. In addition, you can find about 2000 recipes on the site, which should help to achieve the training goal.

The workouts are divided into different categories - from easy for beginners, medium for advanced to mega challenging workouts for very fit.

You can choose from different programs such as "Bikini Body", "Slim in 10 Weeks", "Yoga Basics" to "Belly, Legs, Butt". In total, there are 60 programs and 750 workouts.

So much for the theory.

Before I share my Gymondo experience with you, let's take a look at how much it costs. Because that's certainly a point of interest for you.

How much does Gymondo cost

The first thing I see on the website is "Test 7 days free of charge". Well, I have nothing to lose. But in order to take advantage of this offer, I have to register first. To do this, I enter my name and an e-mail address.

During the free trial period, I can cancel or delete the account at any time.

Attention: If you sign up for a paid subscription, the package will be automatically renewed at the end of the term. If you don't want this, you have to cancel the subscription 3 days before the end of the term. You can do this directly in your user account.

I save a reminder in my phone 3 days before the subscription expires. Then I have the option to cancel or decide to renew.

If you decide to renew, you can of course cancel at any time. For example, if you decide to subscribe for 3 months, you can cancel after the first month. But you still have to pay for the other two months. After 3 months the subscription is over and there is no debit from your account.

If you've already done a free trial or are as convinced as I am after the time period, find the subscription that best suits you.

For my Gymondo test, I'm taking the 3-month subscription. It normally costs 38.99 euros, but is currently on offer. I pay 29.22 euros - so 9.74 per month.

However, you can save money by choosing a different package. One year costs just 5.24 euros per month. So one-time 62.99 per year.

Or you can take the 6-month plan. It currently costs 7.49 euros per month.

Of course, you could say: Youtube offers workouts for free. But there's a big difference here. Because with YouTube, you don't know whether the trainers who put the program together are really certified.

Tip: Some German health insurance companies cover the costs for Gymondo! Check with your health insurance, then you can submit the invoice and train for free.

What you get for your money

Now you know the Gymondo price. But what exactly do you get when you sign up?

I have opted for the 3-month package. During this time I have access to all programs. And that without limitation.

That means I can choose from 60 programs and 750 workouts.

So I can - if the sore muscles allow it at the

  • Monday do yoga for beginners
  • Tuesday complete the slim in 10 weeks program
  • Wednesday work on bikini body
  • Thursday insert a yoga session
  • Friday do a fat burner workout
  • Saturday improve my agility
  • and Sunday work on my six pack

Purely theoretically. It's clear to me that my body won't be able to keep up. Because as the saying goes, the break in between is just as important as the workout.

And of course I want to stick to that. That's why I decide to do 3 workouts a week and switch. But if I stick with 3 workouts per week and keep it up, the price is justified. But if I lose interest, it's not a huge financial loss.

So I'm giving it a chance and want to get my Gymondo experience.

What I then need is a laptop, tablet or cell phone with which I can stream the workout on the screen. 15 minutes after registering, I can start my first workout.

There are always new programs and trainers, so the whole thing does not become monotonous.

Training in the living room

Why I want to have my own Gymondo experience

Well, as I said, it's free for 7 days. So I have nothing to lose. A few programs appeal to me a lot - especially everything around yoga and cardio.

I still have to work a little on my endurance. And I don't feel like running right now. But as I've seen, you can also improve your endurance in the living room.

From yoga I hope for even more flexibility, which certainly can't hurt and can also prevent neck pain.

And besides, I think that you have to have your own experience to find something good or bad.

In addition, I am curious about the 2000 fitness recipes. Delicious and healthy dishes you can never have enough :)

To do really well in sports, you need the mix of nutrition and sports. And I think I'll find what I'm looking for here in the programs and recipes. I'll let you surprise me and write here exactly my experience with Gymondo.

Then, in the end, you can decide for yourself if it's for you - or not.

My Gymondo test through the paces

Gymondo test

So my trial subscription is activated. 7 days I look at the program now very closely. First I can choose my goal e.g. lose weight, tone up, build muscle or improve mobility.

The concept is simple: a proper workout for an average of 20 minutes and then you're done with most of the programs.

The exercises are explained in detail. I find most of the trainers really likeable. Two less, but there's more info later. 😁

In the beginning, I grab a mirror to see if I'm tensing my stomach enough and not forming a hunchback. The other things I need are a non-slip exercise mat and sports clothes.

You can start with 3 light workouts per week to get you started. They last between 15 and 30 minutes.

In the second week, you can increase if you notice that you can do more and are not quite at capacity yet.

But you can take a little test in advance to see which difficulty level suits you. Unfortunately, I overlooked that at the beginning. But you'll find out pretty quickly what fits well or poorly.

My Gymondo Experience - The First Week

Since I already know that I want to sign up for a Gymondo subscription for 3 months, I make myself a workout plan. And you should do the same. Because without commitment it will not be.

I indicate how fit I am and what I want to work on. Gymondo suggests me the Shape&Fun workout 3x a week.

So that nothing gets in the way or I even get lazy, I enter these dates into my cell phone. That way, the inner bastard certainly doesn't stand a chance.

3 times a week for 22 minutes including warm-up. That sounds good and motivating.

I stream the video from my laptop to the TV in the living room. Since my internet connection is not the very best, I turn down the quality so it doesn't judder.

When I start the video, my trainer Caro is already smiling at me, fully motivated. With her in the video are Dani and Chris, who demonstrate different levels of difficulty of the workout.

Gymondo experience

Caro's focus is on bodyweight. Each workout is a full-body workout. After a short warm-up round, we go straight into the workout.

For the first session, my abs are made to glow by doing crunches for 1 minute. Caro says to count how many you can do so you can increase.

At the end of the minute you can enter in a field how many repetitions you have done. I'm proud of my 62 crunches. Chris and Dani did more, but I am optimistic that I can beat them soon. :)

The next step is squatting. Normal squats are followed by dynamic squats with knee tightening. Note to self: Next time, wear shorts.

And the first workout in the living room is already over. Because Caro keeps turning to me, I actually had the feeling of being in a workout with others. I completely forgot that I was actually jumping up and down alone in front of the TV.

At the end of the workout, I have to indicate whether the workout was a) too easy b) just right or c) way too hard. I decide on the golden mean.

For the second Gymondo test, I'm back in the training room with Caro, Dani and Chris. This time, too, there is a bodyweight workout that makes me sweat quite a bit.

Except for the squats, the workouts are totally different. No exercise is duplicated. Caro probably knows that I don't have the fittest abs yet. Also the second time I have to do crunches - but this time they are side crunches. For 1 minute at full power I manage 66. I enter the number again and see my progress later.

Gymondo experience

When the third workout comes up, I want to try something new. So I select "I want to work out something different today" and get a list of workouts I can choose from. In total, there are 270 workouts that I can add to my Gymondo experience. That's mega much and makes it really hard for me to choose.

I decide to do a round of "Relax Yoga" with Viktoria, Susanne and Sebastian. For 20 minutes there are pleasant and soothing yoga exercises that stretch my entire body. Just what I need after such a busy day.

I especially like the motivating music in the background. Somehow I feel worlds better at home than in a studio where I hear the others moaning. I still turn up the sound a little so that I do not hear myself puffing so loudly :)

How I am doing after 3 weeks of Gymondo test

I've gotten used to doing extra workouts at Gymondo 3x a week. With what else I do athletically, I'm really well utilized now.

I can easily fit in 3x 20 minutes. Even on stressful days when it's getting longer at work again. In between, I skip the shape workouts because the sore muscles from bouldering are too bad, or I opt for a stretching session.

Sometimes I just do a session of yoga after my weekly run. I find it practical that you can schedule it yourself flexibly.

Overall, I have to say that I feel in good hands with the trainers. They tell me what the classic mistakes are during the exercises. So I pay close attention to my knees when I squat and make sure my abdomen is tense when I do other exercises.

The workouts are coordinated with each other, so that I do not train only the abdomen for 3 weeks, but also butt, back and Co are challenged.

The biggest advantages of online training

Well, after the test I dare to say that I really know my way around it. I have recorded the advantages for you here.

1. the Gymondo programs

If you decide to subscribe, you have a lot of choice. Of course, I can't list all the programs now, but at least a few.

Workouts at Gymondo

  • for slimming and toning
  • for beginners and advanced
  • to burn fat and build muscle
  • for more mobility and balance
  • especially for body parts like the abdomen or back
  • like yoga and pilates
  • for all who have little time or want to get back in shape after childbirth

You can either choose a program like "Fat Burner" or do individual workouts. You can save the workouts that convinced you the most in your favorites list.

Before each program there is a warm up and then a cool down.

2. you can train when you want

Yes, you should have a plan with fixed dates for training. But you can vary. If you don't feel well, you can simply postpone the workout to the next day or choose another one.

My personal tip: Postpone the workout really only if there is no other way. Don't give your inner pig a chance :)

When the weather's nice, you can take your workout outside. All you need to do is take a tablet or laptop with you into the garden.

By the way, if you are sick, you can simply pause your Gymondo experience and then resume it.

3. you can adjust the difficulty to you

After logging in, you will find an overview on the start page, where all workouts are displayed. Before you click on a workout, you can already see the training goal, the duration and the difficulty level.

You can filter the workouts according to your goal and immediately see the duration. For most workouts you have to plan 20 to 30 minutes. But there are also some with 40 minutes.

The workouts are divided into three fitness levels: Easy, Medium and Hard. If you are unsure whether to start at easy or medium, you can take a test. You will be shown four exercises that you have to do. At the end you will get an evaluation.

Once you have chosen a workout, you can start the video. Here, the exercises will be explained to you. If you don't like one, you can skip it or repeat it.

In most videos, there are two other people doing the workout besides the trainer. One person is doing the easy version of the exercise and the other is doing the slightly harder one. So you always have the option to choose between the two.

Training at home

4. you learn about nutrition during your Gymondo experience

70 % of training success is nutrition, a trainer once told me. So if you train very intensively and then eat a pizza and a big ice cream, unfortunately all the effort was in vain.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't treat yourself in between meals, but you should make sure you eat healthy and balanced meals.

I often have the problem: What should I eat and cook?

With my 3 month subscription I have access to 2000 recipes and can choose between delicious ideas.

5. you see how you develop

When you take the Gymondo test, you naturally want to see the progress. Data is stored in a profile. You'll find an overview of the workouts you've done and how many calories you've burned.

There are workouts that contain challenges - very classic: squats or crunches. You can see in this challenge how you get better every time and where your limits are.

If you want, you can enter your weight and body measurements in your profile at the beginning. So you can see the progress later.

What I also noted down in addition: Abdominal circumference, thigh circumference and the circumference of the upper arms.

The biggest Gymondo cons

No advantage without disadvantage :) But they are very limited in my opinion.

For some workouts you need equipment. No barbells or other expensive things, but still one or the other equipment. Sometimes a fascia roller is used for the warm up, in between you need fitness bands or a medicine ball.

You can just get these things or you can just skip these workouts/exercises altogether.

I also skip one trainer. Because I'm not the type of person who likes to be spoken to sternly. I like most trainers very much and they motivate me. A few don't go at all, but of course that depends on what makes you feel good and motivates you during your workout. I put two trainers on my no go list. However, there are enough to choose from so I don't have to train with those two anymore.

The loading time of the videos depends on your internet connection. It can sometimes take a little longer with some videos. I solve this problem like this: I set up the laptop first and let the video preload before I go to change and get the mat.

Until I have everything ready, the video is also loaded.

Keeping the subscription period in mind, however, I can't see any other drawbacks. Unless you are a professional athlete, the workouts will probably not suit your taste.

My conclusion

If you are unsure, you can get your first Gymondo experience with the 7-day free program. Plan a week in which you really have time to work out and see all the programs in detail.

After that, you can choose the 3 month subscription and see how you get along. Just don't forget to cancel the subscription early enough if you decide against it.

I wish you a lot of fun with the training!
